There was a time when I sat at Crisler as an undergrad and cursed Purdue's Big Dog for taking the Big Ten Title away from J. Rose and company.

In a roundabout way, he may be giving it back.

Actually GRIII was born on January 8, 1994. So he would've already been born when that game happened.

Interesting fact that I hadn't heard before he was born three months premature and only weighed 3lbs 4ozs. He had to spend the next two months in an incubator with a mini basketball, according to wikipedia.

That game brings back some memories. I remember camping out at Crisler the night before to make sure I was in the front row, which I was...only to see us blow the game for the BIG 10 championship. Big Dog was a beast. Didn't he posterize Big Country Reeves in the tourney that year?

Big Dog was one phenomenal basketball player at Purdue. Only thing standing between post Webber Fab Five and a Big Ten Championship  was the great Glen Robinson Jr., and I'll be damned if he didn't beat them.

The video is not very good but here is the last 2:26 of Purdue's remarkable comeback to steal the title from the Wolverines. Robinson's three point play to pull Purdue to within one will remind you of his son.

Happy Birthday Big Dog.

  • HD > VHS, omg we're so spoiled now.
  • As much as I loved the Fab Five, they're sporadic play used to drive me nuts.
  • Why were we shooting the ball as if we were behind when leading 94-93 with 20 seconds to go?
  • This was an example to me of how Fisher was a great recruiter but an average coach, he's improved now, but man that used to frustrate the hell out of me.
  • Lastly, wow Chrisler Center > Chrisler Arena.

Happy BDay GRII, thanks for providing us with an awesome son!

Wow, that is brutal.  I didn't remember the collapse being quite that bad.  We had a seven-point lead with 1:30 to go!

It's hard to believe, watching that, that we had four three-year starters on the floor.  We looked like a bunch of freshmen there on offense, heaving up wild threes.

Little do people know, but BIgDog was quoted sometime a year into it, that, had he known the FabFive were gonna come together, namely Webber and Rose late in the game, that he'd have come here too. Supposedly he committed early to Purdue, and then Webber and Rose essentially completed it effectively. Thus, Ray Jackson wouldve not been a FabFiver, and I really think they'd have won the ncaa title with BigDog.
