Kelly is so Irish he does riverdances in the locker room.
January 9th, 2013 at 8:48 PM ^
Other than his name, what makes you think that? Not doubting you necessarily, but he always just seemed to me like a guy who wanted to climb up the career ladder as far as he could.
January 9th, 2013 at 8:54 PM ^
But Kelly has said that he grew up loving Notre Dame as an Irish Catholic boy. There is simply no way he leaves.
Don't get me wrong, I would love it if he left, but I just don't see it happening.
January 9th, 2013 at 8:58 PM ^
Doesn't mean he doesn't like millions of dollars.
January 9th, 2013 at 9:13 PM ^
They're green too.
January 9th, 2013 at 11:02 PM ^
I think he leaves within 2 years anyway, I think he's an opportunist type guy, plus being ND coach has to be stressful, he has made them more competitive and who knows how long that might last there, he'll wanna take advantage while the iron is hot.
January 9th, 2013 at 9:03 PM ^
he also looks like an angry leprechaun
January 9th, 2013 at 9:11 PM ^
Then he needs to go get his big pay day from the NFL so he has a pot of gold.

Please photoshop

Good news OVERLOAD!
January 9th, 2013 at 9:05 PM ^
for all. Two great pieces of news in a 2 hour span. Is Green announcing tonight?
January 9th, 2013 at 8:45 PM ^
Even if he left, wouldn't they just promote Bob Diaco?
January 9th, 2013 at 9:24 PM ^
I imagine they would first float to the usual suspects. Jon Gruden, Chris Peterson, Gary Patterson, James Franklin, Charlie Strong, David Shaw. Then assuming they couldn't get any of those guys, they would probably hire either Diaco or someone like Art Briles.
January 9th, 2013 at 9:54 PM ^
I think they could go with Chuck Martin, their offensive coordinator/assistant coach. He came from a simlar background and Kelly loves him. Martin might be Notre Dame's Luke Fickell and hold the job for a year untill a "big name" can be hired
January 9th, 2013 at 8:45 PM ^
A quick google search and its comin back hot...
January 9th, 2013 at 8:45 PM ^
I just got the update via espn app, lol how mad are domers right now?
January 9th, 2013 at 8:46 PM ^
cause me to laugh from deep within
January 9th, 2013 at 8:46 PM ^
I would if I were him. He'll never do better than he did this year, and his stock will never be higher either.
January 9th, 2013 at 9:47 PM ^
Kelly's track record says he's an awesome coach (purple-face of not) and Notre Dame is recruiting just as well or even better than us right now. He made GVSU awesome, he made CMU sweet, he made Cincinnati sweet, and he could easily turn ND into a perennial top 5 team.
January 9th, 2013 at 8:47 PM ^
If he takes the Job do they give grimace an Irish wake in south bend?
January 9th, 2013 at 8:46 PM ^
Please!!!!
January 9th, 2013 at 8:47 PM ^
I think they have quite a few good ones too.
January 9th, 2013 at 8:48 PM ^
yes, yes... YEEEESSSS!!!!!!!!!
January 9th, 2013 at 8:48 PM ^
Imagine if kelly went to the eagles and Meyer took the job at notre dame. Oh imagine the meltdown....
January 9th, 2013 at 8:59 PM ^
Then Dantonio went to OSU.
January 9th, 2013 at 9:17 PM ^
But why would he take a job he's already turned down twice?
And even if he did, we only would have to play him twice more rather than every year...
January 10th, 2013 at 10:10 AM ^
No way Meyer ever leaves OSU for anything other than the NFL. Prestiege and recruiting platform are pretty similiar, he has more history with OSU than anywhere other than Cinci, and there is absolutely no way OSU won't match/beat on coaches salary + assistants salary. Alas, I think we are stuck with him until he retires.
January 10th, 2013 at 11:21 AM ^
OSU was always Meyers target, ND was in his list of buyout options as was UM. Neither one was ever a target.
January 9th, 2013 at 8:48 PM ^
Obviously, the Rooney rule stipulates you must interview at least one purple person.
January 9th, 2013 at 9:04 PM ^
I thought he was more a shade of beet red. Either way, he is in a class all by himself.
January 9th, 2013 at 8:48 PM ^
I guess ESPN meant "received phone call and said no thanks."
January 9th, 2013 at 8:48 PM ^
Does good news come in 3's?
January 9th, 2013 at 8:50 PM ^
In disarray again?? They have a really good recruiting class as well. There would be a ton of scrambling!
January 9th, 2013 at 8:55 PM ^
Hello: Jaylon Smith?
A man can dream....
January 9th, 2013 at 8:51 PM ^
Yeah, they went 12-0 this year, but I think dumb luck had more to do with it than Brian Kelly. If he leaves they might actually get someone good that would be able to maximize the talent on that team.
January 9th, 2013 at 8:51 PM ^
This is stupid for the Eagles. I'd wait until next year to see if he's for real. He had one good year and got pooped on in the NC game.
January 9th, 2013 at 8:56 PM ^
Anyone remember how close he was to getting shit canned at the start of the year?
January 9th, 2013 at 9:33 PM ^
but he's won everywhere he's been. To say he's had one good year at ND is true, but ignores his career. Plenty of NFL HC's have been hired on lesser HC resumes. Doug Marrone just took the Bills job this week.
January 9th, 2013 at 9:38 PM ^
To be fair..He's won with other coaches talent every where he's been.
January 9th, 2013 at 9:59 PM ^
I think he pretty much built GVSU from the ground up and I believe CMU and CIncy were pretty average before he got there and let them both to some of their best season ever. It's not like he was a Chizik who had Malzahn and Cam Newton (he had LeFevour but he's not quite the specimen Newton was)
January 9th, 2013 at 10:22 PM ^
Gvsu is a tough job.. He had to recruit against the likes of..... Hell if I know and I grew up 15 minutes from there. Doesn't change the fact that while in the big leagues all his winning teams were made of rosters full of the other coaches recruits.
January 10th, 2013 at 8:50 AM ^
Taking someone else's players and making them great is even more impressive.
January 10th, 2013 at 8:58 AM ^
You do realize that Mike DeBoard was the HC at CMU before Kelly correct? To say the cupboard was bare is an understatement, it had yet to be built yet.
Also, Weis had how many top 10 classes and perennially underachieved, Kelly has finally started to get the most out of the leftover upperclassman from those classes and with a hefty sprinkling of his own recruits got his team to the MNC. I may not like the guy but to say he wins with others recruits is untrue.
January 10th, 2013 at 9:37 AM ^
It doesn't matter what you do with 25 five star recruits. If you can't coach, you can't coach. I think its an absolute idiotic statement to make "Well he used the previous coaches kids", at the time those kids were recruited he was somewhere else. So if he had actually been at that school, whos to say he wouldn't have recruited those kids anyways?
So again, in this case, Weis recruited offense, strictly. There was nothing wrong with the offense. Under Weis I think ND had 35ppg on offense. The problem was a vacant defense. Kelly came in, recruited the hell out of defense and here we are.
Now if Kelly can do what he knows best and light up the offense, we'll be good.
January 10th, 2013 at 9:41 PM ^
Dan LeFevour is a QB legend.
January 9th, 2013 at 10:05 PM ^
The man was at GVSU from 1987-2001. When I was in school there, you could fire a cannon through the stadium and not hit a fan, and he turned it into the power program of D2 football. Plus, he spent 3 years at CMU, another total garbage team, and won the MAC. From there, he took Dantonios shitty roster and put them in a BCS game in 3 seasons. It doesn't matter who recruited the kids that were there, it matters how the coaches produced results. When you're at a school for 3 years and
show improvement every year that is sustained after you leave, you're a good coach.
January 9th, 2013 at 10:33 PM ^
Charlie Weiss was a good coach for notre dame if he stays a couple years and moves on like Kelly did at Cmu and Cincinnati then..
