OT: Thursday Night College Football Open Thread
Since many of us will be watching games tonight, I thought I'd centralize the conversation. I'm giddily awaiting the start to the USC/NCSU start and admittedly, lots of Erin Andrews.
Games on the TV docket:
- South Carolina @ North Carolina State (ESPN, 7pm)
- Troy @ Bowling Green (BCSN, 7pm)
- North Texas @ Ball State (ESPNU, 7:30pm)
- Eastern Kentucky @ Indiana (BTN, 8pm)
- Utah State @ 18 Utah (MTN, 9pm)
- Oregon @ Boise State (ESPN, 10:15pm)
Who's got money on EKU? And what's with Indiana hosting a Thursday night home game? (okay, you're right, it's Indiana, it doesn't matter. sorry jamiemac)
September 3rd, 2009 at 6:28 PM ^
Got money on the under for SCar/NCState game. S Carolina's offense has been pretty bad under Spurrier, but their D has been pretty solid. NCState is much better with Russell Wilson, and I think they'll win, but it's going to be a low scoring affair, like 17-14.
September 3rd, 2009 at 6:53 PM ^
Ditto, minus the money part. I think people are vastly overrating the offenses of both these teams, especially in the first game.
But, watch the score be 49-42.
September 3rd, 2009 at 10:01 PM ^
Looks like you won some money. Jesus, 7-3. What a crap game.
September 3rd, 2009 at 6:35 PM ^
This game's not on tonight, but Joe Schad is reporting that G.J. Kinne will be Tulsa's starting QB, and not Shavodrick Beaver.
September 3rd, 2009 at 6:40 PM ^
I thought they had already announced that Beaver would start about a week ago. I remember a post about it.
September 3rd, 2009 at 6:40 PM ^
I am pumped. However, I just found out the best way to kill the mood leading up to a football game is turning on ESPN360 and watching tennis until the game begins. DON'T DO IT.
September 3rd, 2009 at 6:41 PM ^
That's actually a great idea. If I'd just thought of that 3 hours ago.
September 3rd, 2009 at 6:56 PM ^
my 12 pack of FCL (fine Canadian lager) lasts until BSU/OR
September 3rd, 2009 at 7:02 PM ^
I live in Oregon and folks here are really nervous; it should be an explosion of offense. Popular sentiment is Peterson of BSU was set to replace Bellotti at Oregon prior to Chip Kelly's arrival. Guess he'll be pulling out all the stops tonight. Should be a good but late, late game.
September 3rd, 2009 at 7:03 PM ^
It's awful.
September 3rd, 2009 at 7:04 PM ^
I have my mute button at the ready.

"At long last, the moment has arrived."
September 3rd, 2009 at 7:04 PM ^
KICK OFF HAS HAPPENED!!!
September 3rd, 2009 at 7:04 PM ^
I'm so excited college football is finally here. NC State by 7.
September 3rd, 2009 at 7:05 PM ^
What happened to the last 9 months? I seem to have forgotten where I've been.
September 3rd, 2009 at 7:13 PM ^
Oh my gosh. NC State Rawk Music. Awful.
September 3rd, 2009 at 7:13 PM ^
Well, SC might not have the last-ranked rushing attack in the conference this year.
September 3rd, 2009 at 7:25 PM ^
If I had not seen us play ND last year, I would say this is the worst game I have ever seen.
September 3rd, 2009 at 7:29 PM ^
Well, NCState is looking to match their start last year, when they got shutout 38-0 and turned the ball over like 7 times.
September 3rd, 2009 at 7:36 PM ^
Woooooooo! FoooooootBaaaaaaawwwwwwwwww!
September 3rd, 2009 at 7:38 PM ^
Good to see not only actual football, but a thread devoted to talk about actual football....as opposed to the last nine months of conjecture. Lets get it on, people.
Once the HOOSIERS start, I will have games on 4 TVs as here in T-Town I have access the local BCSN.
And, FA, what can I say? If somebody offered them $3 mill to move this one to Papa Johns Stadium in Lville I would be all for it.
September 3rd, 2009 at 7:45 PM ^
Is any one else seeing these salsa boy commercials?
September 3rd, 2009 at 7:51 PM ^
Jesus both of these offenses are terrible. Take away the fumble and easy score for SC, and this game is worse than last year's MSU-Auburn game (3-2 final score).
September 3rd, 2009 at 7:57 PM ^
I've got the BSU UNT game on, it's almost the same game. Neither offense looks that good, UNT's a little better.
September 3rd, 2009 at 10:10 PM ^
Woooooo bonus coverage of UNT/BSU on ESPN!!!!
BSU just scores on a 25-yard run to make it 10-10 with the successful PAT.
September 3rd, 2009 at 10:12 PM ^
BSU recovered a fumble to set that up. First break of the game for them.
September 3rd, 2009 at 7:59 PM ^
Well, I say that and now UNT has averaged like 8 yards a carry on this drive as they've gone 60 yards already.
September 3rd, 2009 at 8:02 PM ^
Argh and they miss a wide open WR down the sideline to force a FG attempt. Miss it short from ~40yrds.
September 3rd, 2009 at 8:03 PM ^
Oddly, on ESPN, they had one of those pick 'em type things and were asking if BSU would put up more than 50 points (or maybe it was 40-something). Did they forget that Nate Davis graduated?
September 3rd, 2009 at 8:01 PM ^
only 2 hours and 15 minutes until the first game of the season...only 2 hours and 15 minutes until the first game of the season...
September 3rd, 2009 at 8:04 PM ^
Oh man, I've got #2 Minnesota-Duluth hosting #9 Central Washington on CBS College Sports. This game is big from a D2 perspective.
September 3rd, 2009 at 8:20 PM ^
5dimes has some D2 and FCS lines. I am sure they had one for this. I wish I had looked it up, just to follow along.
Gotta get that CBS College Sports. Wont be able to until I move into a new place later this fall.
September 3rd, 2009 at 8:23 PM ^
L-A, K-E, R U A LAKER? HELL YEAH!
My alma mater, GVSU, is the finest D2 program in the land.
September 3rd, 2009 at 8:07 PM ^
NC State looks as bad as I thought they would. Really, Russell Wilson is their only really good player, and he's been lousy.
September 3rd, 2009 at 8:23 PM ^
Wilson looks tentative tonight. Suddenly people expect this team to win and like most NC St teams they look lost trying to live up to the hype.
September 3rd, 2009 at 8:18 PM ^
YAAAA!!!!! Indiana 2 - EKU 0
September 3rd, 2009 at 8:18 PM ^
Hoosier D steps up. Gets a safety. Look out Big 10
September 3rd, 2009 at 8:21 PM ^
Hearing the Blues Brothers song in Raleigh and not Yost feels so wrong.
September 3rd, 2009 at 8:22 PM ^
Anyone else see the Lou Holtz jump to hit the chalk board.
Just Wow
September 3rd, 2009 at 8:36 PM ^
The man has ups, give him some credit.
September 3rd, 2009 at 8:23 PM ^
UNT drives the field to the 3 and blows it on 3rd and 1 with a pick in the end zone. Ugly pick.
September 3rd, 2009 at 8:25 PM ^
This USC/NCSU game is so incredibly boring.
9-0, IU over EKU.
September 3rd, 2009 at 8:27 PM ^
Three field goals?
September 3rd, 2009 at 8:31 PM ^
Safety and a touchdown.
The EKU QB was in his own end zone when he fumbled it forward and out of bounds. It was ruled a safety via replay.
EKU just scored a touchdown on a long catch-and-run (about 70 yards or so). 9-7, IU.
September 3rd, 2009 at 8:32 PM ^
= safety. IU drove right down after the free kick and scored.
Now EKU just took a simple cross pattern to the house. 9-7.
September 3rd, 2009 at 8:32 PM ^
Shades of...ah shit I won't even say it.
September 3rd, 2009 at 8:37 PM ^
They IMMEDIATELY knew what it reminded them of. It doesn't even need to be said!
September 3rd, 2009 at 8:29 PM ^
TD Minnesota Duluth!
September 3rd, 2009 at 8:31 PM ^
Ball State's spread punt is so weird. It's like old Texas Tech splits to the point of having 6+ gunners. Worked though. Now for UNT to march the field and not score for the 3rd time in a row.
September 3rd, 2009 at 8:41 PM ^
Ball State cannot tackle. UNT must be averaging 8 yards per carry. After checking, it's 7.8.
