Meta: Board Showing No Posts Found
Not sure what I should in this situation, but it says no posts found on the MGoBoard for me. So I can not see any topics at all. Any help? Thanks everyone.
Mod edit: Meta is how anything regarding the site itself should be tagged. Normally I wouldn't change something over a tag but putting meta in the title is the equivalent of sending the TomVH batsignal for Brian. JGB.

so it's not just you. If you click a few times it seems like you can get lucky and have it show up as normal. For now, I'd just use the sidebar. I normally use the MGoBoard link like you do, but if it's down it's down.
Also, I don't know if it's the flukey old computer I've been using this week or what, but earlier I clicked on the site and MGoBoard was showing posts from 3/3/12 as the most recent, comments and all.

Wait do most people use the link for the mgoboard? I've always used the side bar to get to threads.

but it's about a thousand times easier to use the MGoBoard link if you're trying to "catch up" on every comment, which is how I've spent the majority of my time on here this past month or so. Another thing about using it that's sometimes useful is seeing the view count for each thread.
As a random aside, that's also why there haven't been any of the phone style posts (the ones that look like diaries and don't have the "first unread" and "last" buttons) lately. They don't show up on the MGoBoard tab, so I go through and file them there, and that way everyone can use the buttons and I can see all of the new posts in one place.

vBulletin forum ftw?
new to the board, has that ever been considered?

Secondly: We (by we, I may just mean me) here like tough love, so don't take this the wrong way and never come back to the site, but...
This is one of the biggest/best sports blogs in the country and has been around for a pretty long time, I think they're doing just fine and have the right guys in place to know what's best for the site's development and issues.

It is one of the best sports blogs in the country because of its excellent content, not because of its technology.
I love mgoblog, but I would love it even more if it switched to something like vbulletin or preferably ipboard. The site always loads slowly for me, its incredibly buggy (still can't click on additional pages without tricking the javascript into not launching), and the organization is a bit archaic -- I mean, there are better ways of organizing content now than labeling the thread titles with codes. For the blog content written by the staff, it's fine, but as a forum for discussion, the technology is sub-optimal.
I suspect Brian doesn't want to change it because, well, its a real pain in the ass to make such a big switch after so long, and also he may be committed to drupal's free software philosophy.

I think the community aspect is an important part of this place.

I agree with you competely, but I don't believe it was a primary purpose originally.

If I remember right, Brian introduced the board years ago after attending some sort of bloggers conference. The board was a solution for "how do you get people to return to the site 10-20x a day if you're only posting 1-2 articles a day." The board generates more page views and more money for Brian.
After having it for years now, the board probably is the primary purpose of the site. I'd bet it generates more views than anything on here by far, and because of that should be a top priority since views = money. My guess is that Brian sticks with this model though because the time and money to switch over to something new would be pretty big, would generate a lot of headaches and bitching, and the net result might be a minimal positive.

I don't know how many blogs you've looked at, but this is the antithesis of the typical, monetized "sports blog." The only way the amount of views Brian gets is going to translate into a lot of money is if he decides to "flip" the site to someone who would immediately turn it into a David Brandon wet dream to recoup his investment. There isn't even an Amazon button on this site, fergodsakes.
So, while it is generally true elsewhere, "views = money" doesn't really apply here.

How else do you think Brian makes money on this? Like all forms of advertising, the more people you can claim that are looking at your material, the more you can charge for ads. So yes, pageviews = money.

He refuses to respond to anyone and 90% of what he posts is just plain wrong or incredibly stupid.

This is definitely a great blog and forum and those that run it do a great job. I visit way too many times a day.
Just checked out IPBoards and they look like great forums and I think I have used them in the past. It would take this place to the next level in my opinion but then again there will be a lot of people that oppose that type of forum and the adjustment period.

This isn't perfect, but when you click on the MGoBoard tab, click "new and updated topics". That will give you a list of topics you've commented on and have new comments, or posts you haven't read. Again, not perfect, but it's at least some kind of temporary fix.

about a dumb technical issue I was having and sought out his advice.
His suggestion helped me indeed and he also indicated that there are going to be a bunch of changes on the site come summer time, FYI folks.

Weird. This just happened to me, and it was fine earlier today.
Edit: p. 2 looks OK though.
