And yes Merrill is dressed & was skating pregame. He'll play definitely tuesday night against bowling green.

Michigan commits in this game playing for USA: Tyler Motte, Evan Allen, JT Compher.

JT is a projected first rounder in the NHL Entry Draft.

Good news:  our recruits look good - well, I don't remember Allen's name being called much, but Motte & Compher were productive.

Bad news:  they're not playing for us yet.

3 must win games next week - half of our remaining home games:  one with Bowling Green, currently at the bottom of the CCHA (tied with NMU); two with Alaska, currently tied with us in 7th.

Reasons to not be worried

  1. This USA Team tied #1 minnesota and #3 notre dame
  2. Michigan didn't have Trouba who is beasting it up over at the WJCs and is playing for the gold medal tomorrow morning at 8am EST on NHL Network
  3. Jon Merrill only played on PPs and was a main reason why Michigan got a shorthanded goal to begin the game
  4. It's an exhibition. Players aren't fired up about an exhibition unless they are the ones who are the underdogs (ex: Michigan vs Spartak in the 80s.....look it up if you don't know what happened).
  5. These are minors they're playing and don't want to hurt them.
  6. NO MOAR EXHIBITION GAME INJURIES

"This USA Team tied #1 minnesota and #3 notre dame"

That does deserve its own caveat...and yes, that is a badass fact.  Feeling pretty good about the future of hockey in this country, even if it means watching the NHL burn in the process.

These guys will, I'm sure, make up the bulk of the roster for the U-20 team we'll be sending up against the Canadians within the next couple of WJC tourneys.  Hopefully Michigan gets their share of them, but I'd be happy if most (okay, ALL) of them decided to avoid the CHL and play the NCAA game anywhere in this country.
