Should know better than to quote some "Inquirer pseudo news source" and put Matthews' name out there. Even for a journalist of Sam Webb's, uh, stature, that is poor judgment.

This article is much more than about Greg Mathews. This is the article FP should have written. It is much more even-handed and honest in describing the complexity in determining what counts as "mandatory" and why some former or even current players might have an axe to grind. It is a shame this is not what came out of the FP because all of the drama could have been avoided.

This is from the Newark Examiner. I'm from Jersey and lived ~20 miles from Brick City and have never even heard of this paper.

Moreover, if you read the article, the only line mentions Matthews is:

"Former players Toney Clemons and Morgan Trent are two of the men who have rolled against the program -- Trent graduated following the 2008 season and Clemons transferred to Colorado -- while senior wide receiver Greg Matthews was the only current player who described a coaching staff that pushed players too hard."

Also, Morgan Trent's remarks are only about a cultural change, which is something everyone agrees with.

"It's definitely a culture change," former defensive back Morgan Trent told me. "What first hit us was the strength and conditioning aspect. The lifts we were doing, that was the biggest culture shock. That was rough, it still is rough.

because you're near Newark.

My browser presents it as "Portland Examiner". The examiner appears to be a network of "journalists" in 109 cities across the country.

The bio for the author of the article says:

Jeff Sonne

Detroit Sports Examiner

Whether it's the Red Wings, Pistons, Lions or Tigers, Jeffrey is a die-hard Detroit sports fan with something to say. He's freelanced for the Kalamazoo Gazette and is currently a journalism student at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. Send Jeff a note ([email protected])

Mathews is a senior and I'm only the second person in this thread to spell his name right, wtf.

Also, your thread title sucks. Maybe you can get a job with the freep.

I was at the beginning of practice yesterday and to me at least chemistry wise Mathews was very loose joking around with the rest of his teammates and didn't look isolated from them at all. I think there is not any evidence and this is just a rumor.

This thread is doing just what Rosenberg did, trying to draw a conclusion based on rumours and speculation rather than fact. Lets just leave the rumours alone and not throw Mathews under the bus until he (or some other CREDIBLE source) say outright that he made these comments. To continue with this is following in Rosenberg's footsteps IME.

This is actually worse than anything the FREEP did - at least they actually had quotes from people. There is literally no concrete evidence to indicate definitively who the person is, or what they said.
