Stevie Brown & Jason Avant: Time for NFL Open Thread

Submitted by Michigasling on

Stevie Brown and Jason Avant open Giants-Philly game.

First play: Vick to Avant (tackle by Stevie Brown).  Four plays later, what's becoming typical Stevie-Flash:  He intercepts Vick and returns 48 yards.  (Giants TD a few plays later.)  The semi-bad news: Avant was injured defending Stevie's return, but the good news is he's back on the field and just made a nice 15-yd catch.  (Defended by S. Brown.)  Positive Brandon Graham sightings as well.

I believe that's Stevie's 10th interception* for the season, either leading or tying the current NFL season record.  The injured DB he'd replaced is now playing on the other side of the field, so there's no question Stevie's solidified his starting role.

*CORRECTION: As noted below, it's his 8th interception for the season, briefly tying Chicago's Tim Jennings for the season lead.  But now that Jennings has made his 9th...  A great season so far for Stevie.  (Unfortunately Chicago is now in the process of ending that season.)

He was when the guy posted this. I haven't gotten to watch any Jaguars games, but are his INTs just horrible throws, or do a chunk of them come from drops? I feel like it's odd how he can go through such great stretches yet throw picks at the rate he does.

As a Redskin fan I was really hoping the Lions could upset the Bears today. That isn't going to happen...

Matthew Stafford is once again seeing how many times he can turn the ball over.

Brandon Graham, Mike Martin, Donovan Warren, Stevie Brown, Van Bergen, Kovacs, Roh, and our defense still sucked.   Imagine what Mattison would have done with that talent.

Well I was enjoying Chad Henne's game and then he had about the worst 15 minutes of football possible to go along with awful special teams. Three picks, two returned for TDs and the other into the red zone. And the Jags have given up two punt returns for TDs. Locker hasn't been on the field in about two hours it feels like. Yet the Titans are winning big.

Well, the 4th turnover of the game was especially painful for some reason...perhaps because it happend soon after a touchdown which made it close and inside the Lions' 25 yard-line.

I'm not a Lions fan. I really don't care about that division at all even though most of my friends are Bears fans. But the way that Chicago double and triple teamed Calvin Johnson for most the game even though it left open receivers all over the field really pissed me off. If the Lions defense could tackle at the end, Chicago would have most likely lost that game because they were more worried about not letting a receiver reach a landmark than they were just winning the game and making the playoffs. Go Vikings. I will now be actively rooting against Chicago for the forseeable future.

No they weren't concerned about stopping CJ from getting a milestone.  As the above poster said, who else would you take away? make sure CJ is well covered and basically dare the Lions to beat you with Bell/Leshoure, scrub WRs, and the King of Drops (aka Brandon Pettigrew).  CJ has been getting double and triple covered all year long.  It's not new.

Pack-Vikes game McCarthy throws challenge flag on a scoring play, but because they had already signaled the review was coming then it's not a situation where they can't review the play, they only penalize the team 15 yards....completely contrary to what they did to the Lions on Thanksgiving. The rule is asinine, it needs to go.

to avoid having that stupid rule overturn the outcome of two games. No mention of the review had been made on the field, so the only way we know that the review was ongoing was that the ref announced that the replay officials said that they were reviewing it. It is hard to imagine to say the least that a rule depends on a ref's claim about what's going on inside the replay official's head.
