OT: Calling Gamers (PS3)

Submitted by DirkMcGurk on
Looking for a new game and having trouble picking one. Got Black Ops 2. Looking for a good sports game or a game that has a solid story that you can't blow through in a few days. Thanks in advance.

FIFA is IMO the best online play for a sports game, and it's not even close. I played baseball in HS and love football, but The Show, madden, and NCAA can't touch FIFA.

Sports games: Fifa 13, Nba2k series NHL 2013 are all fantastic games!!

Uncharted series, Batman Arkham series, and Red Dead Redemption are some of my favorite non sports titles. I've heard great things about Farcry but I haven't played it.

as far as sports go The Show is the best baseball game out there. i haven't played this years because i have last years and there really wasn't much new that mattered to me. NHL is always a solid choice as far as sports go as well.

like someone said above, Red Dead Redemption can be found in game of the year edition for around $20 and you can waste away so many hours of your life on. this, just like the show, is more so a single player game IMO but NHL is a blast online but has some good offline features as well.

Just go into your local Gamestop and ask for the cover-based shooter with lots of brown and gray, lots of bloom, quick time events, and regenerating health.

At first I wasn't really feeling BO2, but after playing it for a while online, I love it now. I don't like a lot of the maps though. My favorite map is Highjacked and I hate how they removed the Nuketown 24/7. I didn't always play Nuketown 24/7, but every now and then it's fun to play it for about an hour since it is so small. There are explosions just about everywhere every three seconds.

I'm a little bit pissed that they sucked me in with a bunch of hype again. Its good and all, but better than any of the last 3? I don't know. Its pretty much just $60 for new maps. Granted, I don't play the campaign levels, but I still think I should've just dusted off MW3 and would've been just as happy.

The style of play in BF3 online just isn't that great. I hate that people can pilot/drive vehicles because more often than not, the people in said vehicles are insanely good at them (especially the helicopters) and it just isn't fun for the people getting annihilated by them. Also, I feel like it takes two to three sniper bullets to kill someone in BF3 compared to one shot (mostly) in COD.

The Walking Dead-  the game is more like an interactive movie, but it was a great experience.

Red Dead Redemption-  Just finished this game.  I loved it, for a game from rockstar, I was actually shocked that my character wasn't a complete and utter douchebag.

Fifa 13 or Nba 2k 13- For sports games, you can't go wrong with either.  I love the fact that i can play 4 games of Fifa in the time it takes to play 1 game of Madden or NCAA.  The two football games need major work, they are just boring.

Ratchet and clank- any game in the series-  I am a kid at heart and this game has it all, humor, firepower, and platforming fun.

Bioshock 1 and 2, Battlefied 3, Castlevania lords of shadow, Borderlands 1 and 2 and Elder Scrolls Oblivion are all really solid in book too.

If you somehow haven't played Metal Gear Solid 4, it's probably the best game of all time. Also, the Uncharted games are amazing and each takes a pretty long time to complete.

Assassins Creed 3 is a long ass game, and pretty fun... right up until the ending. The ending sucks. It's almost Mass Effect 3 awful  (Nothing is all-the-way Mass Effect 3 awful).

Far Cry 3 is excellent so far. FIFA is the best sports game you'll find.

I forgot to mention Mirror's Edge. If you can get it for cheap, (which I'm sure you can, now) its totally worth it. Completely unlike anything else out there, but pretty short.

All three are fantastic games, and while playing in order isn't necessary, there's something to be said for it. As another reviewer has said about 3, even the 12 hours of walking through the desert is cool. (it's not really 12 hours and it is cool)

I haven't played Far Cry 3 yet. Two is good, but can be kind of frustrating.

Driver San Fransisco has returned to most of the goodness that marked the first installment for, shit, was that the original PS? But i suppose you'd have to like driving games (not a simulator) and you didn't mention an interest.
