OT - Twas the Day Before Christmas: Were you Naughty or Nice?

Submitted by profitgoblue on

For all you other chumps that are stuck at work like me, and you lucky bastards that don't have to work today, here's a fun little holiday thread to spread some Christmas cheer.  And Kwanza cheer.  And catch up on the Hanukkah cheer results.  And wish everyone a happy holiday season.  Here's some topics:

- Have you been naughty or nice?
- What is on your Christmas list (or what did you get for Hanukkah)?
- What did you get for special one(s) in your life?
- What was the worst gift you ever received/gave?

Me, I already got my new LED television a few weeks ago so I'm thinking I'll get getting a pair of socks and maybe a shirt from M-Den under the tree.  That said, there won't be much space for my stuff anyway due to the vast number of gifts that we got our two kids.  The oldest is getting a spectacular set of legos that I will likely have to help assemble (I love it!) and the youngest is getting a bunch of chewable toys.  She is very likely to get her two front teeth this week and she's been gnawing on anything she can hold in her little hands.  The wife is getting her 1,000,000th pair of shoes and some other odds and ends.  Her best gift is the Kermit the Frog PJ pants that my son picked out for her.  I plan on guilting her into wearing them often.

Happy Holidays!

Yeah, that was just pulling a few guys from the top of the "users by mgopoints" list. Going down a little further, MaizeAndBlueWahoo, joeyb and PurpleStuff would be good reads.

BlueDragon would also be a really interesting read, mainly because everyone on the board would need to find a way to look up at least some stuff. Dude makes some crazy obscure references at times.

I think certain members of MGoBoard are way more obsessed with my supposed obsession with Herm than I am. I can't have made a ~Herm reference more than a handful of times; Oyster just picked up with that one and ran with it.

Also, interviewing Herm would kill him, basically because we all know he's not actually 70 year old guy. Interviewing Herm is like interviewing Santa Claus.

Alsoalso, I'd like to second BlueDragon, and also suggest Owl, simply because I think he's cool.

I just meant at his original pace of one a week or even one a month if they had been continuously done we'd have gone through a lot by now. Since they got sidetracked, and had so many new members there's a lot of gold out there still I think. Beyond those mentioned I remember CRex being on board with bring profiled, but it never came to fruition. I think they're humanizing. Say what you will, but who wouldn't read one about Section 1, or His Dudeness? And not to make anyone toot their own horn, but we've had mods come (and go) who certainly deserve profiling.

but Section 1 was the first thought I had. Good call on Dudeness too. As far as new guys, stephenrjking would be interesting. I call dibs on yours, by the way. That could be a cool way to kick off the official offseason and segue into you taking over the franchise, provided Six Zero is fine with all that.

Then I'm not for it at all. Would only do it with a wholesale endorsement. If it's something he wants to pick back up when he has more time I can wait. But I'd do it; he's done all the heavy lifting already.maybe try one a month during basketball season, then just see how fast we can whip them out in the real dead time. And to all a good night.

I would like to read poem written by somene from the Michigan Recruiting HQ facebook page:

‎'Twas the night before Christmas, when all thro' the big house,
Not a recruit was stirring, not even Mary Sue Coleman's blouse;
The letters of intent were hung in Brady Hoke's office with care,
In hopes that Derrick Green soon would be there;
The GBW mods were nestled all snug in their beds,
... While visions of Derrick Green danc'd in their heads,
And RoJo's Mama in her 'kerchief, and Treadwell's dad in his cap,
Had just settled our brains for a long soap-opera that was whack,
When out on Tom Beaver's postings there arose such a clatter,
The Recruiting HQ went on their computers to see what was the matter.
Away to his I-Phone, Steven Brown flew like a flash,

Tore through the Rivals message board, and threw up all over his rash.
The moon on the breast gave Mike Farrell in the know,
Gave the lustre of swearing to Ty Issac below;
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear?
But a Derrick Green verbal commitment to Michigan! and along came the HQ members celebrating with a beer!

She asked for a chainsaw, but really wanted something else? I thought it might also make a nice centerpiece.
I'll never forget the Flintstones Shooting Gallery I got one year. Best ever.

Being on the naughty list means you had way too much fun the other 364 days of the year and need to spend Christmas Day as punishment  to balance it out.

I received a dream catcher from the gas station from my wife's parents one year. It was wrapped in a Shell bag with the $.99 sticker still on it. I am not any part American Indian. Nor had I ever mentioned anything about dream catchers. My wife and I bought them a new flat screen for Christmas that year. I remember watching them open it and tell us that we shouldn't have. Then I got the dream catcher and they all watched me open it like they thought I would love it. The other son in law got a surround sound speaker set.

Gave me an OSU skully cap. I think they gave me a Michigan polo too so I'm pretty sure it was a gag and not mean spirited or dumb. But I still use it to this day. It's the perfect size to hold the extra double sized roll of toilet paper in the bathroom.

I've given and received many cool presents, but this is the present that got away:

http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem?itemId=130779939304

If the link doesn't work (it's an expired ebay listing) it was a 1923 vintage belt buckle of the uofm crest. I was going to give it to my bro-in-law and refit/give it a new leather belt strap. But I got outbid at the last second--probably by one of you buggers.

Instead, I went to that vintage Michigan sports store on liberty in Ann Arbor and got him a 1981 media guide (year he was born) with Anthony carter on the cover.

naughty.  At the beginning of the football season, I told my wife I'd glady trade an ND and OSU loss for an MSU win.  The gods listened.

Although, looking back - if we wouldn't lost 5 in a row I don't know if I would have been able to take it.

was my then-girlfriend (my now-wife) saying 'yes' to my marriage proposal...at Christmas dinner in front of my family 17 yrs ago.  complete surprise to everyone but me, high-risk, but ultra high-reward.  wife is the greatest, awesome mother of 7.

big gift for mama is her requested driving gps - not a biggie but mama gets what she wants and she doesn't ask for much.   big gift for the kids is different:  we 'harvested' one of our steers yesterday.  it'll hang at my buddy's place for a week and we'll butcher it up and have meat.  the older boys each had a shot at deer on the back 40 but came up empty, so we'll take the cow for now.

would be very interesting to see profiles on many of you.  and no matter what, Merry Christmas to you all, happy belated Hannukah, and enjoy the new year.  go blue!

I mostly asked for some new stuff for my road bike and some winter cycling gear. The worst gifts I've ever gotten were probably some South Pole t shirts from my grandparents that didn't exactly understand that brand's demographics. They tried and I appreciate that, but they missed the mark a bit there. Not to be Scrooge, but I must say that I'm enjoying the monetary savings and reduction of gift giving stress that being single around the holidays brings this year.
