Buckeyes get new basketball court, DB is proud
Ohio State has released images of its new basketball court, set to debut next week. It even includes buckeye stickers at the corners.
Dave Brandon beams with pride as they've managed to plaster #GoBucks on the sideline. The only thing they're missing is a Twitter handle.
P.S. They can no longer be upset at us calling them Ohio since they now have then entire state at midcourt.

I forget Value City even exists.

I always wondered why the Columbus and Ohio State hangs on to the Value City name so sentimentally, other than that the first store was in Columbus. It's actually more correct to say that Value City Furniture is the actual sponsor of the arena, and their parent company is actually now American Signature anyway. The Value City corporate brand technically does not exist as of 2008, I believe, much like the Buckeye football team's 2010 season (officially, for the most part anyway).

I had no idea Value City stores even existed in metro Detroit, I thought they were all in Lansing and Grand Rapids/West Michigan. I remember VC stores in Lansing, when I was little.
Turns out, there are none in Lansing now. Huh.

I'm not sure if you payed attention or know the name Schottenstein but the OSU basketball arena is named of the family. Most of their family are alums, lived in Columbus and are the owners of the Value City ( I'm not sure if they still exist).

And sent at least one child, a daughter, to Michigan. (Class of 03).

I never see Value City stores around DC, but I can't escape the commercials. There are always idiotic dancers in them. Are they like that in Michigan, too?
December 20th, 2012 at 8:47 PM ^
Value City still operates to this day in Franklin County.
December 20th, 2012 at 1:44 PM ^
Maybe an AD? I assumbe "Value" was just his nickname.
December 20th, 2012 at 1:45 PM ^
I was going to say...worst sponsor ever..
December 20th, 2012 at 1:45 PM ^
shouldn't there be the words "worse state ever" somewhere at mid-court?
December 20th, 2012 at 8:17 PM ^
Not just worse, but worst!

"domino's pizza is proud to present tonight's basketball game from Crisler Court @ Art Van arena."

...waiting to happen. Go get 'em, boys and girls!

Think they had Tressel adorn the floor with its buckeye stickers? Maybe this is where they carried him after his standing ovation.

Can we save the Dave Brandon hating for stuff he actually, you know, does? Brandon has zero to do with this story yet there his name is in the headline.

If someone establishes that they're a whore, then people are going to make whore jokes about them even if they aren't actually whoring at the time.
December 20th, 2012 at 4:32 PM ^
Dave Brandon is, in all honesty, less of a money whore than the average college AD. He will float trial balloons to gauge public opinion on most things before acting, and withdraw the idea if it's unpopular. Most other ADs just paint the hashtags and put up ads on the scoreboard without consulting the fanbase.

Double post...Dave Brandon proud.

Curious why it doesn't say "Worst State Ever" inside the faint outline of Ohio at center court?
December 20th, 2012 at 2:08 PM ^
I notice there is no "the" on the court.
December 20th, 2012 at 2:36 PM ^
Value city is hood
December 20th, 2012 at 3:41 PM ^
Hey, that poop stain on the center of the court looks like the state of Ohio! Someone must have spilled a cooler.

Obligatory shot at DB. Nice.

Is there a link in the OP or did I just miss it?

I kinda like the look with the state in a darker wood underneath the logo. Texas A&M has something similar
December 20th, 2012 at 6:23 PM ^
Agree. It can't be difficult to do and Michigan probably has the sweetest shape of all the states. I wouldn't want to follow OSU's lead straight away, but maybe one day we should add it.

but the UP would have to be included. I don't know how it could work with the UP

had a great court too last year but i think they got rid of it. it had the forest and it was like looking up through the trees.
The new Crisler is nothing to sneeze at either
now all it's missing are #'s everywhere

I'm not a fan of our oversized navy blue Block M on our court. Our official Block M is maize. It would look better if the block M on our court was maize and a litter smaller, surrounded by a blue circle "basketball" or at least just a blue outline.

DB just oversaw one of the best remodeling's of an out of date basketball facility which has been universally praised.
December 20th, 2012 at 4:48 PM ^
Ohio- Grover Cleveland took off his underwear.
December 20th, 2012 at 5:39 PM ^
Will they have a separate name for the court? Like, Big Lots Court or something?
December 20th, 2012 at 5:40 PM ^
December 20th, 2012 at 5:52 PM ^
I'm glad our facilites are named Crisler and Yost. Not Value City.
December 20th, 2012 at 5:56 PM ^
The best thing that Amaker did for UM was to create the classic and clean look that is and remains the UM basketball court. DB will screw with that soon enough and trump up a quote from a player for the press release that they "really like the look of the new floor."
December 20th, 2012 at 5:57 PM ^
oops, double post
December 20th, 2012 at 6:02 PM ^
Who did they pay to design that? I think it's an ugly floor... and nothing says ohio sports like a cheap, janky furniture store like Value City. I'm embarrassed to live in the same state as it.
December 20th, 2012 at 6:43 PM ^
Notice how in the three promotional photos they were able to keep Value City out of the frame completely.
December 20th, 2012 at 6:48 PM ^
At some point can we stop posting Ohio news on MGoBlog? This is at leas the third Ohio related post in the past two days.
December 20th, 2012 at 7:33 PM ^
Its amazes me how news in Ohio gets to Michigan faster than I can find out about it. First the flip of Conley, then the story on Clarett, 11W spread on Rich Rod, Upset watch OSU & MSU then the basketball floor. I'm all for being objective and hating rivals, but I don't exactly care to follow Mgoblog if all the forums are centered around "the lastest news out of Ohio". There is plenty going on, on the other side of the fence.
As for the floor, personally I don't like. Stick with the regular harwood floor, OSU and B1G logo. No need to be fancy. In fact it reminds me of the Oregon floor just too much going on...
