Congratulations to the incoming M Class of 2017!
From a member of the Class of 2006, congratulations to those who were accepted into the Class of 2017!

Congratulations. Now ignore the upperclassmen and get to the damn games on time.

I would have set the over/under on number of posts before someone complains about student attendance at football games at 5. You killed that...
December 17th, 2012 at 4:41 PM ^
Since you were setting the line after you knew what he posted, you should've set it at 1.

In my experience, freshmen really struggle to even make it to the game the first week. As a rising senior, I know I'll be there 20-30 minutes early for ND, Nebraska, Ohio, and the opener against CMU. The Akron, Indiana, Minnesota games on the otherhand... we'll see.

Thank you! It was easily the proudest moment of my life... and I promise to show up on time too.

I tried to post that video last week in another thread asking someone else to repost it due to my lack of points, but it never got accomplished. Im glad its finally on the boards. Its a great video and like all things Michigan, reminds me how much I love this university.
December 17th, 2012 at 4:14 PM ^
Agree, fantastic video.
1) I'm old: I got my acceptance letter by mail not email. Nice of my mom to open it up for me, still a little pissed about that >=(
2) Always get a little emotional about the Block-M labcoat. =)

How come we haven't invented a machine that let's you stay a 21 year old, senioritis having undergrad forever?!

Congrats to M 2017! Enjoy your time there, you'll never have 4 years of learning about yourself and molding your future. Even when partying, going to games, and spreading your wings, remember to always keep learning!

I actually cried the first time I saw this video...Its an honor to be apart of this great tradition. Go Blue!
December 17th, 2012 at 4:44 PM ^
Welled up here also. Thanks, for that! Watching that video I remember the feeling all over again and sent chills through me in a huge sense of pride! Thanks for finding it.( I'm downloading and keeping it.)

I had been admitted to the hospital with pneumonia for 4 days and discharged about a week before I got my letter. I tried to yell, but couln't make enough noise because my lungs and throat still felt all messed up. So I grabbed a rock and threw it at my dad's metal mailbox. I felt the moment deserved some degree of cacophony.
December 17th, 2012 at 6:34 PM ^
"A part of," not "apart of!" If you're "apart of" this tradition then you're not part of it and you may as well be at Michigan State.
Excellent video that just proves IT'S GREAT TO BE A MICH-I-GAN WOLV-ER-INE!

...came via snail mail...back in the fall of 1984.
I knew I had been accepted even before I had opened the envelope, as I received a full-sized thick envelope, rather than a standard envelope that obviously contained a letter and nothing else.
Thank goodness I was accepted, as U of M was the only college to which I applied. At the time, I would've rather stayed in my job at the mall than suffer what I felt would have been the indignity of attending MSU.

Identical story here too, except change "1984" to "1986" and "MSU" to "Wisconsin."
I remember not being particularly surprised when I got in. Very pleased, but I think I was too dumb to know that it was kind of competitive. Not nearly as competitive as it is now, from what I understand, but still competitive.

Class of '16 here. I grew up in Ann Arbor, and I've loved all things Michigan my entire life. It wasn't until my junior year of high school that I even imagined going anywhere else (I had good enough grades to take a shot at a few Ivy League schools). At this time last year Michigan was my "safety school," and I was disappointed when I didn't get into my top choices, but fast forward one year and I can't imagine being anywhere else. Michigan has been such a great fit for me in so many ways, from academics to my social life. I've already had the time of my life in just 4 months, and I can't imagine being anywhere else.
This video reminds me of why it's so great to be a Michigan Wolverine!
December 17th, 2012 at 4:30 PM ^
I was on Mackinac Island on a PAYPHONE to my mother when she opened the letter for me. I actually stopped talking given the tears I didn't want her to know about. One of the greatest moments of my life.... (birth of kids notwithstanding).
December 17th, 2012 at 4:39 PM ^
received his email notification this past weekend. Very proud of him, esp since the other school he's waiting to hear from is Harvard. I hope he decides to be a Wolverine!
December 17th, 2012 at 4:53 PM ^
To those of you who either got deferred/wait listed.... DO NOT PANIC. They let people in in three waves and this is the first and most challenging. Usually this is the top third or so of APPLICANTS based on ACT/SAT and GPA. Many of these kids will come but a lot will not, particularly out-of-staters waiting to hear from the Ivys. Do not lose hope or panic. If April 1 rolls around and you haven't been accepted, then things are not looking great.

That urban legend of the lone MSU student who accepted a sparty bid over a Michigan bid is less likely to have occurred than finding bigfoot in my living room with a glass of scotch. I think there is a greater chance of the loch ness monster swimming down the Detroit River on the Fourth of July than actually finding one person who chose a sparty acceptance over Michigan. Sincerely, Kris Kringle

way back in 1976, the large envelope was the giveaway. I remember my mom being so happy and may dad, not so happy. My dad was from Ohio and loved all things OSU and Woody Hayes. For me, it was like going home given I had been to Ann Arbor many times when my oldest brother was an undergrad (in the pre-Bo days!).
While my moment was great, the greatest was when my daughter got accepted three years ago. She came home from practice after school and I went out to fire up the snowblower and clear off 3 inches of fresh snow. A few minutes later, she was yelling at me sobbing uncontrollably. I seriously thought our dog had died or something horrible had happened. No. She was have a happiness meltdown after getting her acceptance in her email. The many years of attending football games with my wife and I had made her want to be a wolverine. When she was in 9th grade, while at a game, she pointed over at the student section and stated she would be sitting over there one day. Well, her day had come and, of course, her Michigan experience has been great and it's been a kick for my wife and I, too. Nothing like your kids following in your footsteps.
Congrats to all and Go Blue!

I always find it kind of funny when people say things like "these are the best years of your life." I remember being told that a bunch when I was in high school, too. Basically saying "it's all downhill from here." I don't graduate until next year though, so maybe my opinion will change.
December 17th, 2012 at 6:05 PM ^
"It's all downhill from here" doesn't sound as good as "these are the best years of your life", but has essentially the same meaning. Your time to be careless and irresponsible with little to no consequences is nearly over. Sure, there is some mild stress to be experienced during college, but nothing like the stress that will come as your responsibilities increase.
Enjoy your time until graduation - I mean this earnestly.

Not as much fun when you have a mortgage, car payment, and dread going on vacation because you know the pile of sh*t that awaits you when you come home. Also having friends living within walking distance, without having to coordinate work and family schedules to hang out also was great.

Graduating is cause for a second round of congratulations.
Worst case scenario for the recently admitted is that they fail out of school after having a lot of fun.
