OT: Tommy Tubberville is a Jackass
Anyone else watching the Dan Patrick show? Apparently Tubberville took some recruits out to dinner, they asked him how long he planned on being there, he got up to go to the bathroom and never came back.
What a truly pathetic man. The story has been gaining traction on the internet since last night but the DP show is the first major outlet, to my knowledge, reporting it.

This is the same man who slapped his assistant coach....not really surprised.
And he coached at Awburn.

that he might hire Al to go to Cincy? /s

This is actually the perfect answer to the recruits.
I'm already gone!

He didn't slap his assistant. He ripped his headset off. Watch the video.

I read the article. That is as classless as it gets.

Don't worry, he's coming back. He only went out to get a carton of cigarettes.

Who do you feel worse for Texas Tech or Cincy?

Cinci. Definitely Cinci.

After what Texas Tech did to Mike Leach,* Texas Tech (football - not the school writ large) deserves their fate.
Not even close.
*His discharge being based, in part, upon assertions propounded by that guy. You know, the guy who nobody can prove definitively did not kill five hookers when he was at SMU.

Who could forget the greatest theatrical performance by the offspring of Old 98?

they should think of Tuberville.

I know this may not be a popular opinion, but I don’t know if I am outraged by this story...I was under the impression that the recruits were left by themselves. According to the story, 7-9 coaches remained at the dinner to entertain the recruits. It is very possible that Tuberville received news he had the Cinci HC position and therefore had absolutely no business continuing the dinner. It would have been unprofessional and unethical to do so. I know this was not the smoothest move in the book but the head coach of Cinci can't attend a dinner with Tech recruits and sure as heck can't tell them (before the news was public) that he had accepted another position and therefore had to leave. His alternative would have been to boldly lie to the recruits about his future job status or bail on the dinner due to a “family emergency”

This seems likely, especially considering this line in the CBS Sports writeup:
"The waitress brought our food out, and we thought (Tuberville) went to the bathroom, but he never came back to dinner," Danzey told 247Sports.com. "The next thing I know, the next day, he made an announcement that he's going to Cincinnati."

Coaching transitions are always awkward. What's he supposed to do? Stay there and pretend like he's going to coach these kids? Tell them the truth so they can put it on Twitter and Facebook and the players currently at Tech find out that way? It's a no win.
Jon Bacon spends the better part of his book ripping Lloyd Carr for offering to sign transfer papers for any of his players. I thought it was a classy move by a classy guy. Others painted this as treachery and backstabbing.
Perception is all how you spin it and whether or not you like a guy.

Why is anyone surprised by this. I'm sorry but this guy.....
Is simply this guy.....

I really don't see what Mr. Ed's daughter has to do with this.
December 12th, 2012 at 2:26 PM ^
Sorry. Just don't see the comparison.
Tuberville has never been accused of or included in any major scandals.
Petrino hired his mistress for a position she wasn't qualified for. Lied to the police and the school about her involvement in the motorcyle accident. Major nonsense.

We cannot rule out that his reason for leaving the dinner wasn't a shart. Oopsie-poopsies are a game-changer.

There are plenty of documented situations that prove Tuberville's "toolness," but this isn't one of them. He knew something was up but couldn't reveal it, and had a chance to either lie to recruits or leave. So, he left: I think that was actually a very classy move on his part.

December 12th, 2012 at 2:06 PM ^
He didn't leave them alone...There were assistant coaches there so it wasn't like he just left them hanging. Coaching is a business and I would care more how he told his actual former players rather than just potential recruits. Coaches can be pretty sleazy...Tell me how this is news?
December 12th, 2012 at 3:00 PM ^
In knowing if he got a doggy bag...
December 12th, 2012 at 3:18 PM ^
Oh snap. Reports are already coming out that this account is false and that Tuberville finished dinner. Said goodnight like a classy guy and departed as usual.
Guess this "scandal" is dead in the water. Unless the waiter wants to complain about the tip he left.
