I thought he might go be an OC somewhere first and work his way back up. Can't imagine he stays at WKU for too long.

both for the poetic justice and because I think Wiscy would've gotten the better end of that deal.

Having him bring an advanced passing attack to a really good running team. He would not have the QB on the roster now, but I am sure he could find one. For all his issues, the guy can run an offense.

Might've been better for him to sign on as Tubs' OC at Cincinnati as opposed to this. I mean a serial job hopper in the Sun Belt, an alduterer in the bible belt, what could go wrong?

In other news not worthy of its own thread, Cam Cameron was fired by the Ravens. Cue the Fire Al Borges, Hire Cameron. Michigan ties! rabble rabble rabble!

So THAT is what a Hilltopper looks like. I've always wondered. Looks like it might be a cousin of the Orangemen.

CBS has a nice write-up on the subject here as well - (LINK)
If he wanted to be a head coach right now, this might have been one of the better openings available for Petrino, at least for now. If he can do something with the Hilltoppers that is better than 7-5 on a consistent basis and overcome his reputation for leaving jobs almost as soon as he gets them, then he may very well be able to start the climb back to a BCS program, but of course, the phrase "BCS program" won't mean too much before long. It may be a while before he's in an Arkansas-type situation again, if ever.

I agree with your conclusions- but I think its interesting everyone seems to only be looking at this from the persepctive of Petrino.
This is a great hire for WKU. He is clearly a legit coach who should be able to recruit talent superior to the rest of the conference- and he can be successful there. Worst case for them is he is using them to get a bigger job ASAP- in which case they are in the same shape they are in now having likely gotten an influx of talent and top coaching advice for a year or two to build off of.

indicated that BP was going to be the next coach of the Dallas Cowboys after Jerry Jone's sacked Jason Garrett. Now, perhaps not...

Great, another asshole moves to KY... we are like Florida/Ohio in training.

Petino, Calipari, and Petrino should do a reality show.....haha.

I wanted Petrino in Philly with the Temple Owls. Believe me, Philly fan does not care about how you spend your time/off hours.
Would have fit perfectly.
Well, back to the drawing board. I wonder if Tressel's NCAA order is really "binding" or not...
December 10th, 2012 at 2:48 PM ^
Basically following the Mike Price model, except Petrino will probably try to catch on at a better program when his name is in the spot light again (however briefly).

When the bowls screw the public and lie about it, they get rich. But let Bobby Petrino screw one person and tell one little lie, and he ends up at WKU.
Sometimes, life just isn't fair. But it's still sorta funny.

How am I the first person to ask this: How does this affect Nick Sheridan's future at WKU? Will he be looking for a new gig, or will Petrino retain him? Being a QB coach under Bobby Petrino would be great for his future.
December 10th, 2012 at 7:39 PM ^
Is USF an option for Nick? Willie Taggart obviously likes him, looking at his rapid ascent.
December 10th, 2012 at 7:53 PM ^
That would be a nice upgrade for Nick, so I hope so.

It would have been interesting if he had taken the Arkansas State job.
December 10th, 2012 at 7:05 PM ^
Ark State has a good thing going. They're trying to extend it, not start over.
December 10th, 2012 at 7:31 PM ^
How would they be starting over with Petrino? Every school that he has coached at has seen increased success after he got there. Petrino is still an icon to the majority of razorback fans, and they treat Arkansas State like a second class citizen. Therefore, it would have been interesting.
December 10th, 2012 at 10:29 PM ^
Anything Petrino does is going to be interesting. Ark State has had a lot of success doing things a certain way with Hugh Freeze and Gus Malzahn. They'd like to keep doing things in that way. Chucking it out the window for Petrino doesn't make a lot of sense.
December 11th, 2012 at 10:13 AM ^
I'm confused. They lost their head coach, I think its safe to say that they would have to chuck much of what they had out the window already.
December 11th, 2012 at 1:38 AM ^
I won't be surprised if Petrino turns WKU into the Boise of the east, trouble aside that guy can coacn
