OT - Sunday Night Football - Lions/Packers

Submitted by Red_Lee on

Pretty good showing by the Lions so far. This is basically their Super Bowl. Durham had a catch even better than Avant's from today. Similar one armed snagged, but full extension AND in really crappy weather.

And don't celebrate for 15 seconds in Lambeau, that length of celebration is reserved for the home team and their short hop into the stands.

I'm pretty sure that wasn't shoveling snow. I think he was digging for gold because when they finished with the whole shovel bit of the routine, he bent down and picked up a small object, then examined it, then gave an approving look of satisfaction, then placed the imaginary object into his imaginary pocket for imaginary safekeeping.

I'm not a lions fan so I do not follow them very closely however it seems like every time I see them play Stafford turns the ball over.

I'm a bears fan, so I'm rooting for the lions to to tonight, but that TD was absurd.

More importantly, how long can you guys really keep Jim Schwartz? The lions are by far the undisciplined team in the league and he seems totally clueless. Every team has its fair share of idiots an/or trouble makers but the lions seem full of them.

It started with the harbaugh thing, then Suh, then its just gotten progressively worse. There may be a fine line between "physical/bullies" and totally undisciplined cheap shot artists. Just look at the penalty they took after the TD tonight...or the challenge flag on thanksgiving.

I'm a bears fan, so I hope he stay 25 years, but if I'm a lions fan I want his head on a stake. He's taken a talented core and wasted 2/3 years with his only successful playoff run the year the bears fell apart through injury.

One Super Bowl appearance. Your OL sucks and your offense is meddling.  Cutler and Marshall are douchebag extraordinaries'.  I don't see the Bears winning a Super Bowl with Mike Tice as your OC.

2-3 years were NOT wasted. Stafford is in 4th year, but he missed most of the first two with injuries. The Lions front office did "waste" last offseason by not drafting more defensive help.

So you're saying you'd like to keep Jimmy Jocksniffer for another season?

Outside of that your argument is "bears should have won more games 25 years ago, Culter and Marshall are unlikeable and our O-line blows"

Well, you're right, our offensive line does suck and Tice has struggled with the consistency of his plays, but wre still in the thick of the division and playoff chase.

In all honestly, you guys probably have more talent on your roster than we don, but Schwastz and co. Have done their best to crap all over it. That's why our games matter and yours don't.

Can you even remotely defend Schwartz's handling of the thanksgiving flag? The wide receiver diva situation? Suh's continued insistence to play dirty even when it hurts the team. The Harbaugh thing? The penalties? The arrests?

You and I both know the lions are better than their record. The blame for that falls on the head coach...

Schwartz took over when this team was 0-16. Much of that talent you speak was added by Schwartz and Mayhew.

THe Lions are more talented offensively, but the Bears have more talent defensively. It's a wash.

Yeah, the Lions should be better. But they still lack talent in certain areas  They also need to mature.

The Bears never had to come from 0-16. I really don't think you appreciate how far the Lions have come in such a short time period.

Every team in the league lacks talent in certain areas. As you mentioned our O-line sucks and are safety play has been atrocious all season.

What you seem to ignore in all your responses is that Schwartz seems to condone the undisciplined play that has undone the lions countless times over the past few seasons. Either that or he's just in totally over his head -- which is possible after how he blew that challenge on Thanksgiving.

I understand how awful the lions were, and I appreciate their improvement, but to a certain extent it's merely a regression to the mean. As stafford got healthy and Megatron began to emerge as the best WR in the NFL they were bound to win at least 4-5 more games.

In my opinion you're giving him way to much credit. This team could/should be better.

Oh bullshit. The Lions record is an accurate barometer of their talent. They have one or two top-level players, a great bunch of mediocrities, and their usual quantity of complete boneheads. In other words, it's no different than at any other time since 1964.

It never ceases to amaze me how Lions fans can delude themselves year in and year out. As long as the Fords own the franchise, nothing will change. The Lions will be barely mediocre for 7 years, then have an absolute crap year, then when they've got a really easy schedule and a high draft pick or two they'll uncork an 11-win season that will goose fan enthusiasm and every Lions fan from Grand Rapids to Port Huron will be penciling them into the Super Bowl the next season. Then they'll go 4-12 like they will this season, and the cycle will repeat itself ad infinitum. Periodically there will be a shakeup in the front office when the fans start wearing paper bags on their heads at the games, and the Fords will hire another in a 50-year string of incompetent GMs, who in turn will hire another string of clueless head coaches who after they're fired will never again get a head coaching job in the NFL.

That's the amazing thing about the Lions coaches hired by the Fords: not a single one of the men they've hired to be their full-time permanent head coach has ever gone on to be a head coach at any other team in the league. (Dick Jauron was an interim coach for five games in 2005 after Mariucci was fired. He was not retained for the 2006 season; instead the Ford/Millen brain trust hired Rod Marinelli. Jauron was subsequently hired as HC by Buffalo). Considering how many coaches have coached at multiple stops, that's a remarkable achievement by the Fords. Even Rich Fucking Kotite got a second chance, but none of the losers the Lions have hired and fired have ever been on the sidelines as a head man again.

The really ironic thing is that the Lions have had one head coach with a winning record in Detroit since 1972: Gary Moeller.

Moeller took over for Bobby Ross in 2000 and finished at 4-3. He was let go and replaced by Marty "I'll take the wind—not the ball—in overtime" Mornhinweg.

the Thanksgiving flag.  The rule is stupid as fuck...why wouldn't he throw the damn flag?

Just another way to job the Lions...ALMOST as bad as the Calvin Johnson "no TD catch" against your beloved Bears.  Worst call in sports EVER.

Talented core, sure but the Lions are so incredibly top heavy when it comes to overall talent. Stafford, Calvin, and Suh are top players at their position but this team still lacks overall talent and depth, seriously look at 3 players in the secondary tonight: Jonte Green, Ricardo Silva, and Don Carey...those are practice squad players at best.

Hate on Schwartz and the undisciplined players all you want it's valid criticism, but this team still has a talent deficiency and that falls on Millen first and Mayhew now. If you think this is just coaching you don't know much about the Lions as a whole.

This is textbook William Clay Ford Lions. Crater their season and then do their best to ruin their chances at a great draft pick. I am rooting for the lions to lose the rest of the season.

There is a huge talent deficiency on the Lions.  They handled Titus Young fine--they gave him chances after chance and he messed up so he's not playing anymore.  Broyles should take his spot next year and I liked his play this year.  The special teams needs work--I really don't understand why Logan is on an NFL roster.  I know I'll probably catch shit but if Suh can't keep his head on straight, trade him for draft picks before he gets too toxic and we can't get shit for him.  Fairely, while boneheaded in his own regard, isn't nearly as bad.  Also, I think we found a good third down back in Joique Bill.

Well I said picks as in more than one.  I'm just saying at what point does his baggage on and off the field become more than it's worth? I'd rather get something for him before he's seen as a cancer/uncoachable and that might be the case if he continues down his Haynesworthesque path.

If the Lions ever get some good pass rushing DE's that would make life so much easier for Suh and Fairley who have really played at a pro bowl level over the last few weeks.

Total cheap shot there by Farley.  He may get fined for that.  Schwartz must coach that stuff because his team has been playing dirty since he got to Detroit.  Schwartz is the worst head coach in professional football.  A complete asshat.

Another fail by the weak minded Lions.
