Submitted by randyfloyd on

Eldridge has decommited from USC, he missed his entire senior season with a torn ACL but is now cleared for full workouts and is an early enrollee.

I'm not sure if UM is interested but before his injury, he was a HOT WR prospect and he did have interest in UM before he commited to USC.

I know Tremendous was going to try and get back in contact with him, I sure hope our coaches will as well.

Any evidence he's was being pushed out by Kiffin and Co.?

Makes me wonder if they were pushing him out to open a spot for McQuay maybe?

This kid sure looked good on film, if his knee injury wasn't a career ending type then I'd hope our coaches would take a chance at getting him to visit.

With their cheating-related depth issues, it's actually kind of understandable that they wouldn't want to risk having an injured player on the roster.  If they were up front with him about that, I wouldn't have a problem with them encouraging him to go elsewhere (especially since he has a lot of time to land on his feet).

I think he'd be a good prospect to pick up. I'm pretty concerned about our WR corp and not having a guy that can really take the top off a defense.

All I can say is that I will feel a lot better about our team next year and going forward if we can land a stud RB and WR ("Tell me more captain obvious", I know). We haven't had a game changer at those positions since Manningham and Hart.

Brian should create an auto-complete for this kind of post.  Once someone gets far enough down the line with "I'm concerned about our WR corps... the coaching staff is struggling to recruit elite RB & WR... Manningham, Edwards, Hart..." MGoBlog should just fill in the rest.  It could save a lot of people a little time.

This kid tore his ACL six months ago, has been working his butt off rehabbing and wanted to get enrolled early so he could get higher quality treatment on it to help him get back on the field quicker and they wait until December to pull his scholarship (which is almost certainly what they did). Completely classless move, but what do you expect from Kiffin?

Meh, I don't know that it's completely classless.  I made the same argument above, but given USC's scholarship issues, if they were up front with the kid and gave him a lot of time to find a good landing spot, I don't have a problem with them suggesting that he look elsewhere.

That said, it'd be great to see Michigan pursue him.  The selling point is obvious: where else can you play football in front of so many people against opponents with such crappy coaches?

After the Silas Redd transfer, USC is now limited to only 17 scholarships this year. They were already over the limit at the beginning of September and still recruiting players. A lower rated kid (relative to others in the class)with a torn ACL had no shot of being in that class. I thought at the time that both Texas kids (Prevot and Massington) would never end up in that class.

According to the beat writer at the Daily News, Massington didn't meet the academic requirements to enroll early (not sure if that means he's not graduating early or if he just can't get into SC without another semester of high school).  Apparently his offer has been conditional on coming in January for quite some time and it just isn't going to happen.

He is currently commited to Wisconsin.  Watching his tape he looks like a Michigan WR.  Plus he's from Columbus.  We should get back in contact with him.

Wheelwright doesn't really offer anything that Michigan doesn't already have in York, Dukes, and Jones (or on the current roster).  I'd prefer getting a dynamic receiver or someone with the potential to be dynamic.  We're on the verge of filling up our roster with slow-ish possession/jump ball guys.

So what are the actual chances that Massington would commit to us?  Also, I have not heard Joe Mathis' name in a long time.  Does anyone know what happened with him and if we are still pursuing him?

We were in his top two or three before he committed to USC, so it wouldn't be totally out of leftfield for him to pick Michigan.

There have been hints that Michigan stopped recruiting Joe Mathis a while back, along with a couple other teams.  He supposedly has some academic issues.  Plus I don't think we really need more defensive linemen right now.
