With all due respect to both teams, who earned their spots, the most exciting game I watched this year was Oregon-USC. I still believe Oregon has a better chance of beating 'Bama than ND, as it plays at a pace and speed that 'Bama has not seen.

i.e. have MAC teams ever faced each other with a better set of rankings? I know Marshall was good with Leftwich and Miami OH with Roethlisberger but I don't think I've ever seen top 25 MAC teams face each other

It has to be up there. Here is another big MAC game, from Wikipedia:
October 24, 2003: The first time GameDay went to a Mid-American Conference venue, Bowling Green State University. Number 23 Bowling Green upset number 12 Northern Illinois in a final of 34-18.

but it was to an unranked Buffalo team wasn't it? I was referring more to two good MAC teams playing each other, not just one MAC team getting way up there

Ball State with Brady Hoke as coach, right?

lets go MAC make the BCS

Also ... the Orange Bowl committee has to be cringing at the attendance.

NIU has a running back with the first name Tommylee. Was his mom a big Motley Crue fan?

I think Kent State just showed the nation why throws into double coverage tend to be ill-advised unless you've got a truly exceptional WR out there (and even then, risky). Huskies ball.
EDIT: Is there some kind of unspoken rule about not stopping runs or QB scrambles until well after someone has passed the LOS in the MAC?
November 30th, 2012 at 8:12 PM ^
team gets a BCS bid. Even if Kent State wins, I could see voters simply "freezing" them at 17. I could see if one of them was unbeaten and had a quality OOC win over a BCS autobid conference team but this just doesn't seem right ... goofy helmet stickerz, not a soul in the stands ... No one's interested in watching Florida State pummel one of these little guys, all due respect. Would be worse than Georgia-Hawai'i a few years ago.

Voters can't freeze Kent St. if they win.The computer numbers are what is giving a big boost.

I'm listening to what I think is the Stanford student radio station for the game, and they were commenting on how disappointing the attendance is. I wonder if this is partially a consequence of the fact that they just played last week.

...when the Super Bowl was played there (yeah, yeah, cool story bro) in 1985. It's not a pleasant place to watch a football game under good conditions. If the rain there is bad enough to where it can be seen clearly on TV, you can bet it's coming down at the stadium at a biblical rate. Bay Area Californians aren't going to turn out and brave those conditions, it's just not in their nature. Afternoon, sunny and cool, okay. Dark, rainy, flat-out cold...no way.

There is a lot to like about Jordan Lynch, including the fact that he just tried to kill a defender in an attempt to get into the end zone. The Huskies would have been a 1 TD favorite per Sagarin's model actually.
...and Kent State tries to get something going really quickly, only to be at 3rd and 11, and then....sacked. I think the whole drive lasted less than a minute of official clock time.
November 30th, 2012 at 8:22 PM ^
If Ok loses tomorrow and neither MAC team gets to the top 16 who gets that last BCS bid? Clemson?
November 30th, 2012 at 8:26 PM ^
Could've been Michigan. Who would want Clemson after what happened last year? Nothing but 3-loss non-SEC teams after that ... They might need to elevate NIU after all.
