I think he'll be a 4-star prospect when all is said and done - offers from Michigan, Michigan State, Pitt, and Indiana already.

He's said that he really liked Michigan growing up, but I don't think he's really revealed any strong leans one way or another.

Question:  If a kid is known to be a Michigan fan and a 3-4 star prospect, do coaches give more thought to an offer than say a 3-4 star that is not known to be a Michigan fan?  The thinking being that there is more of a chance that the Michigan fan will commit and thus eat up a scholarship?  In other words, do you think coaches are more careful about offering kids known to be Michigan fans?

Sometimes I wonder if slow developing offers "mean something" because a kids talent is so obvious but the attention is limited, but usually I chalk it up to there being so many kids out there, and not enough hours in the day for coaches. Like Dante Booker has even fewer offers than Marshall, and none outside the B1G. Maybe schools are just writing him off as a Michigan/OSU lock, or maybe he'll blow up later. I would've expected the SEC to be all over them with already with how many early offers they give out on defense, and how big a prospect they could end up being.

Wait a second here.  Are you insinuating here that somebody on the internet used a catch-phrase to imply knowledge on a subject they, in fact, know nothing about?

And here I was about to go all recruity-speak and start discussing his pad level.

Yeah, I remember that.  I don't think we "blew you up" because you said Marshall was good, it was how you said it and what else you said.  You mentioned how you had seen Ojemudia and few other big prospects in person and this kid blew them away and all this other hyperbole and things you couldn't prove.

Had you simply said, "I watched Lawrence Marshall in person a few times and I bet he gets an offer because he's really good" you would have been received better.  Now this "I told you so" post isn't helping your cause.

EDIT:  I just went back and looked, it was in the 2014 Scout release thread.  You brought up Marshall by saying, essentially, "He's huge, he's way better than Ojemudia and bigger."  All Magnus and I said was to slow down, he's not as good as Ojemudia was in high school yet, and he's probably not bigger since he's listed at 205.  Then you got all upset because we weren't appreciative of you providing us with such valuable information.  The fact that you're still upset about it is the funniest part.

Michigan's also offered DEs Joe Henderson (Shaker Heights, OH/Shaker Heights) and Garrett Dickerson (Oradell, NJ/Bergen Catholic). Surprised it took them this long with Dickerson, he's a stud player on two sides of the ball.

I think the issue with him is his measuables. He's not tall enough to be a defensive end but he's too large to be a linebacker. His lack of a true position is the thing that's really, really holding him back right now. If he can get up to 6'4" or 6'5" he'll see offers come in.

Yeah, I was hoping Gelen would get the offer first, but I guess the coaches like Marshall better.  However, some people think Gelen could really bulk up, and might end up as a SDE instead.  Glenn grew a couple inches late, maybe Gelen will as well.

Marshall's film because he doesn't jump out - I really have to focus to find him on most plays. Looks to have good agility and lower base, but normal size, explosion and closing speed ("normal" as a 2/3 star).

Nyles' film because it grates on you like a bad video game with snippets, noise and strange angles. Too bad since he appears to have abnormal explosion and closing speed.

Hopefully we stay in contention with the early 2014 offers as they are freaks.

but snarky on their video editing. Big blue arrow on Marshall and spotlight on Nyles' entire field were overtly painful.

HS game films are tough enough, but free aspirin for any coach/scout that watches these individual films for hours a day.

From the Sam Webb, Detroit News article of November 16, Marshall has always liked MSU. From same article: If Marshall has a dream school, it would be USC

http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20121116/OPINION03/211160379

"When I was younger I used to like Michigan State a lot. It really didn't change (growing up). I like everything about Michigan State. I like their fan base, I like their coaches, I like the school in general — I like everything about Michigan State. I don't have any dislikes about Michigan State."

According to 247, Michigan is the favorite to land Lawrence Marshall. From SpartanTailgate:

**The Spartans have offered a scholarship to Class of 2014 defensive end Lawrence Marshall from Southfield (Mich.). But he is not at all close to picking a college and will likely garner many additional offers before he is ready.

Marshall attended the Michigan at Ohio State game last Saturday and an Ohio State assistant showed up at Marshall’s school to follow up on Wednesday. The Buckeyes have not offered, but have told Marshall they really like him. Michigan and Pitt just offered to join the Spartans as well as Indiana, San Diego State, Toledo and Bowling Green.

Marshall told Wolverine247 on Tuesday that Michigan is his early favorite.

“I wouldn’t commit right away but Michigan would definitely be my top school,” said Marshall. “I love their tradition and just the way they do things. I know they have great academics.”
