OT: Happy Thanksgiving thread!

Submitted by ppToilet on

I wanted to wish everyone on the board a very Happy Thanksgiving and give a place for people to say what they are thankful for, what they are drinking, where they are shopping, whether they are working and general what-not of the holiday (including whether you are happy to see the inlaws or not).

For me, I am thankful for: 1. Family 2. Michigan sports 3. See #1

Happy Thanksgiving!

So far, excellent day. Had to work yesterday so I DVR'd the ESPN classics. Currently enjoying '95, which I dont remember very well even though I was 12. Watched the '97 game many times so I think '03 is up next.

Just showed Greg Mattison on the sideline. Love seeing him back again.

I love the holdiday:  no church, drink/eat, hang with family

I hate the legacy:  the worst part of manifest destiny:  the rape, murder, and exploitation of the native people so that ultimately we can have minimalls and no soul...

time to poor a drink.

don't you worry my brother (or sister)  I am socially active...  The sad thing is that duality of being a citizen of the united states (much less one of privilege like my self); on one hand we have every opportunity to succeed, on the other hand everything we have comes at the cost of someone else on this planet.

Honestly, I think it is important to remain conscious of that duality at all times.  I am thankful to be have never worried about hunger, to have been elite enough to get into michigan, and to know better than to think I am better than any one else...  what more can I say?

love,

jdon

I would also like to take this opportunity to wish the MGoCommunity a most happy Thanksgiving!

As for today, it's pretty much the movies and lunch out before my wife works, so if anyone is interested in a Charlie Brown Thanksgiving-type spread this evening, my place will be the place to be, execept you'll be fighting my son for the white cheddar popcorn.

Tomorrow and Saturday will constitute back-to-back turkey dinners with the traditional fixings, and possibly a trip to Best Buy to pick over the remains of the sales. Friday's dinner will involve the fancier items that my in-laws do not want me to cook anymore for Thanksgiving. The turkey Provencal and gratin Dauphinois and Alsatian Quiche were voted out this year, despite being roundly  praised - something about "traditional Thanksgiving meal".

Hopefully with Saturday's dinner, as I give thanks to family and friends (who will take some of the leftovers with them, of course, thereby freeing space in the fridge for beer) as well as the  University of Michigan, I hope to also be giving thanks to a Michigan win that destroys the Buckeyes' chances of theorizing what it might have been like to be in the NC game this year.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Im too lazy to search, but this must be the first-ever reference on MGoBlog to turkey Provençal, gratin Dauphinois, and Alsatian quiche. Seeing that on here is akin to walking in to a dive bar and seeing a menu filled with gourmet dishes. Kudos to you for being an ambitious cook. Can we hire you to prepare our meal next Thanksgiving?

I'm with my girlfriends extended family in exchange for Christmas in Michigan, so I'm with some relative strangers outside Akron instead of family in Ann Arbor or Milford or Grand Rapids.

It's not all bad, though, lots to be thankful for, plus I can just count down the time before beer starts coming out. Hope everyone is having a safe and fun holiday, and I'm definitely thankful for our great community here.

I remember a rough holiday weekend many years ago with what were then my future in-laws.  It started out just fine, with vodka martinis and pinochle with my fiance and her father into the wee hours of the morning.  I had never played pinochle before, but it's close enough to eucre that I had no problem picking it up.  The next morning, about 5:30, I was awakened by some idiot's loud clapping, coming from somewhere in the house.  It turns out it was my wife's passive agressive  mother who later pretended to be surprised that the noise was bothering anyone.  Her excuse?  She had bought a key fob that chirped to the sound of clapping, and she wanted to see how it worked, before 6 a.m., on a day when there was no reason for anyone to get up for at least another 4 hours.

Despite the mother in law, I'm still thankful for my wife and children and the wonderful meal we will be sharing this afternoon.

Her family isn't nearly that bad, they're just different from what I'm used to. My family makes a big deal out of holidays and cooks this big, gourmet type meal while down here we'll be eating more standard stuff in front of the TV.

I'm not trying to say either is better than the other, just that I've always been around one kind of Thanksgiving and this is quite different than normal. Coupling that with not being around family and not being in a familiar place is the "problem".

Like I said, though, lots to be thankful for; there are people out there with actual problems, so I'm just trying to be thankful for everything I have. Happy Thanksgiving, UMGMSUD.

We're seeing both sets of her grandparents today, plus aunts and uncles and cousins.

On the plus side, we'll be in Michigan for the much longer winter beak. Also, I took a shot with her grandma about fifteen minutes ago, so I've got that going for me.

How's Thanksgiving with the rest of the M-Wolverine clan?

And the Cowboys are getting rolled, so decided to check the posts. Food looks delicious, and I'm hungry. Looks like another successful Thankgiving. Other than the Lions. Go Brady!

On my way to Cleveland to spend the holiday with my wife's family. Been monitoring tickets for The Game on StubHub...so thinking about a last-minute side trip to Columbus with my son. Truly thankful for my family, friends, health and professional success. My wife's aunt and I have made it a holiday tradition to consume as much wine as possible...and she prefers white, so that's what I will be drinking.

Family, friends, health, the best blog community out there, and of course the best University in the world to support. Thoughts go out to those who may be struggling this time of year, that they can find at least some enjoyment today.
Go Blue, and Forgodsake, BEAT OHIO!

I loaded the bike in the back of our van this morning because my family and I have a tradition of exercise before we consume mass calories.  While loading it, I found a new Lego set that the wife and kiddo purchased for a family we've adopted through the our kid's school.  When I found out what it was for, I got a little teary eyed realizing how fortunate we are.

Thankful for: family, friends, safety, comfort, our amazing student athletes that represent our school so well, and mgoblog.

In all seriousness, this is the best online community I've ever heard of/been a part of.   I hope you all have a great holiday.  Beat Ohio.

...my kid missed his flight home, we were able to find him a hotel at BWI, a flight this morning, and since the hotel had ample free wifi we were able to watch the game together via Google Hangouts, which was awesome.

So to summarize:

Thankful:

My family

The manager of the BWI Hilton, Eric Spriggs, after whom my first grandchild will be named

Whoever created Google Hangouts

Wolverine victory

Not Thankful

AirTran Airways, who moved up the flight 40 minutes and

Travelocity, who sent out a text about it which arrived AFTER the flight had left

Then if she has a laptop or maybe even a phone you'll see her in the main window an yourself below. I believe if you are watching streaming you can even add a window with the game although I haven't tried that yet. We just set up our laptops on laps on front of the TV. Happy viewing!

family and friends and of course the Univ of Michigan of which we are 5th generation grads.  when the kids get done with barn chores (milking, feeding, etc) we will have a family 'turkey trot' run.  will likely take the oldest boys out to the back 40 to deer hunt with them this afternoon.  dinner will be a wild turkey that i and one of the younger boys called in during spring season, after a 2 hour stalk and call.  he is a dandy.

blessings to you all this thanksgiving, and go blue!

I'm with family in northern Wisconsin, overlooking a beautiful lake. Thankful that my older boys could join us (one from Phoenix, other from school in Minnesota). A large turkey is underway. No shopping (hell no), but relaxation and of course.....beat Ohio.

Thankful for family, good health, Michigan football, and the right perspective.

Not thankful for Notre Dame, SEC, and the idiots in that wretched state of Ohio that rep Scarlett.

Thankful for getting out of the worst state ever for thanksgiving and spending it in Florida. Thankful for Denard Robinson staying at Michigan after Hoke came. Thankful for team 132 last year for finally beating Ohio. And thankful for team 133 for beating state this year and hopefully Ohio this weekend. Oh and also thankful for Hoke and his coaching staff for working towards bringing traditional Michigan football back. Go Blue and Beat Ohio!

Happy Thanksgiving! Bird is in the oven, boys are playing wii, wifey is sleeping (girls night out deposited her on the doorstep at 5:30am) so I'll let her be........

I am stuck this year rooting between the Lions and Texans. I'll lean Texans because of playoff hopes but will be pleased if the Lions pull it off.

I'm thankful for so many things. I'm thankful for a wonderful family, a good job, and great friends. Specifically, I'm thankful my parents broke their backs every day so our lives would be easier and instilled a strong faith in us. I'm thankful that my wife's mom did the same, picking oranges to feed their family after coming from Mexico. Thankful for my wife who makes me who I am. I'm thankful for my son (whose birthday is Saturday, which means bounce house and piñata during the game!), and for our daughter, who is due one week from today. Last, but not least, thankful to God, who made all of this possible.
