Maryland already knocking Little Brother

Submitted by Blazefire on

I like Maryland more already.

An analysis of the expansion from Maryland's SBNation blog, TestudoTimes, declares the following.

And if you think Maryland doesn't fit in because they're a basketball school, Indiana, Michigan State*, and Illinois say hi.

State has been better at basketball than they have at football for some time, but try telling a state fan that they're a basketball school and enjoy the livid, fuming tirade that ensues. Good show, Maryland. It's like prison. Shank a guy on the first day, and then things will be alright.

*emphasis mine.

On behalf of MSU bros, I must correct your terminology.  It's not "molest" - it's "tap."

I know because I once said what you've typed in precisely that situation and then been whacked with a fraternity paddle.  Oh the horror of prostration.

But that wasn't half as bad when I "spun" my players during foosball; whatever bro-vaccination I may have had was overrun in a parade of bro-sipheric indignation.

Now back to your remark - yeah, I'd tap that.  Goddammit I'm glad this is in bold.

The answer varies with who you ask:

If you were to ask someone from the MSU Athletic Department they would tell you it's a football school as that is the greatest source of revenue and largest focus of expenses for the University.

If you were to ask the average sports fan from a national persepective, they are a basketball school. They are known as being more competitive in bball than they are in football.

If you were to ask a Spartan fan, they would tell you they are a football school if they understand the extent to which the football progam is the school's main priority (based on finances) or they would tell you they are a bball school if they understand that the school has had more relevant success on the hardcourt.

Reputation=bball school

Allocation of money and key component of reveune=Football school

Then as it became clear it was a real story I realized that I'm a DC-area resident.  WooHoo!

I overheard a Maryland grad today say something to the effect of

"Every couple of years, we'll sell out FedEx field and make a ton of money playing Michigan.

Too bad we'll get crushed and the stadium will be filled with more Michigan fans than Maryland fans."

Well, if I was against Maryland being added to the BIG 10 now they're pretty okay in my book.

Stick it to 'em Terps.

This thread is a good reminder that, even if another 19 teams across 7 time zones join the Big Ten and we only play a given team once every 28 years, all teams will share a common bond of laughing at sparty.
