Introducing FreeRoll, the MGoFantasy Game

Submitted by Seth on

FreeRoll

Late last year, and then again last February Draftstreet.com let us host a freeroll for those interested in testing out their daily/weekly fantasy games. Lots of folks participated, knowledge was tested, fun was had, personal respect was destroyed, time was wasted, and then people won currency.

It's fantasy except instead of drafting one team at the beginning of the season you build a new one each week. Enrollment in our pool is free for MGoReaders, and there's $200 in the pool paid out among the Top 12 finishers as soon as each freeroll ends.

Way it works is you get a salary cap of $100,000 and use it to build a team of two QBs, three RBs, two WRs, a TE, and two FLEX positions. Each college football player has a price based on their expected fantasy performance [insert Ohio State joke]. So you can have your very own Matt McGloin for $13,597, but Whoa Johnny Manziel will cost you $21,040. It took me like five minutes to build my team:

(That I went with Devin in no way constitutes information—I know what you know)

The goal is to see how much people like it the next few weeks since it's a cool way to keep track of player value, and to do a basketball one starting in January. We'll have some of their guys on here from time to time and charts and stuff to show how and explain why Michigan's players are moving around the list. Fun AND educational guys!

You can adjust your roster up until the contest starts on Saturday 11/17 at 12:00pm ET at which time your rosters will lock and the Live Scoreboard will be available.

I'm in.  Shall scores be kept for the last 3 weeks of the season (2 regular season games plus championship Saturday)?

Edit:  Now I remember why I've never done anything with this site.  I'm in Iowa and am not allowed to deposit or withdraw money.  Lame.  Still in the air if I can just dabble with the MGoBlog "draft game".

Based on people playing last year, I'm guessing this site is legit.  I only ask because the login screen looks similar to those scam sports streaming sites.

...excited to try it out.  I've only done NFL fantasy football so we'll see how this stacks up.  In general, I think college football fantasy is much more difficult to be successful given the number of players available, however picking favorable matchups seems to be much easier.  It would be nice if the site gave info on injuries and matchups, though to aid in the selection process.  For example, Denard is highly rated as is Mark Weisman and Rex Burkhead...all of these guys are injured.

Let me just make sure... this is not an illegal use of player's names/likenesses or illegal gambling right? I know it's not gambling but you know what I mean

Also I just realized I don't understand why gambling on college sports is legal because I thought it wasn't but obviously it must be.

How come it lists Johnny Manziel, Marcus Mariota, and Braxton Miller (among others) as being 42 years old?

edit: One more suggestion for Draftstreet -- it's a pet peeve of mine when a website doesn't let "Enter" default to the appropriate click -- i.e. when you go to log in on draftstreet, if you enter your login ID, tab down to password, enter your password, and then hit enter, enter does nothing.  Instead you have to click on "log in".  Annoying.

This freeroll is exclusive to users who are new to draftstreet or have signed up through mgoblog in the past. I am more than happy to add you into the freeroll though since you are obviously a loyal mgoblog user. Please just send me an email and I will add you into the league.

If anyone else is having this issue please just send an email to [email protected] and I will add you into the league too.

Thanks!
