OSU to Wear Uniformz for The Game (Again)
Ugh.
Ohio State removed the image and would not comment on whether it was, indeed, a picture of the jerseys that will be worn for ‘The Game’ this season, but a source close to the team told us it looked very similar.
“It will feature a helmet with an enlarged stripe and a scarlet jersey with standard block numbers outlined in a reflective silver,” the source said of this year’s alternate jerseys.
“It will have the standard gray pants, but with only a 3/4 stripe because of how they are designed. The stripes on the sleeves are enlarged as well, to match the helmet.”
There have also been rumors the helmet will have more of a chrome finish, much like the ones Oregon has been wearing, instead of the usual silver.

O yeah, these uniforms. The same exact ones they wore for their game against Wisconsin last year. They are nice but give it a break. It would be nice if teams just stuck to tradition and wore what they normally did. None of this throwback retro team uniforms stuff. This isn't your great great grandfather team (insert OSU or Michigan), just wear what you have now.

I'm not sure what you're saying... These aren't the uniforms from last year's game against UW. Point is, they wear these for big home games because recruits like them and the players and many fans like them, and that isn't gonna change

LOL @ olds in this thread complaining about uniform changes. Settle down you guys. Young people like this and it helps with recrutment. This practice is not going away. Teams that do this typically do it for 1 or 2 games per year at most. You guys still get the other 10 or 11. Stop crying.

At this point how can I say I'm surprised? Let's just beat 'em, then those "OMG uniformz" wont be so cool looking.
Beat Ohio.

Can't wait until until a few years when we play "under the black lights" and everyone is wearing TRON glowing uniforms with a glowing field and glowing football - that would be cool.

Your social security check is late! Stuff cost more than it used to! Young people use curse words.

I wish for the day when wearing throwback uniforms are cool again.... and not newly designed throwbacks.... no. Go into the storage shed and pull out the 1991 uniforms. No piping or anything like that. Lose the elastic in the sleeves and give them that old school look.

Some things shouldn't be messed with.

Now they'll look stupid literally, as well as figuratively, when they lose.

Looks like we're playing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Ugly is the biggest fad in college football these days. What a shame.

So will they still have the helmet stickers with the chrome helmets? How goofy will that look?
November 14th, 2012 at 1:32 PM ^
Yeah, that's my question--do they get some person to RE-APPLY all the stickers to the helmets, in all the right quantities? This seems like a serious problem, can any of their equipment guys count past past ten?
November 14th, 2012 at 1:47 PM ^
....but a few folks apparently found a link to an as yet unavailable shirt which has the chrome helmet design on it. There were no side views, but this would at least give us an idea of how glaring that stripe is going to be. From SportsLogos.net:
Part of me says "bowling ball with a facemask" and I don't know why...

The previous Pro-Combats have not featured the helmet stickers and I would venture to guess these will not either. That's purely a guess based on history.

Easiest way to make money-change the jersey slightly and watch the profits pour in. Fans love having the once-worn jersey, especially for a team ineligible for a postseason.

Ick. And I thought the 1942 throwbacks were awful enough.
November 14th, 2012 at 6:06 PM ^
These are absolutely atrocious like everything else they wear... Can't wait till we curbstomp them in 10 days.
November 14th, 2012 at 6:42 PM ^
From a strictly design standpoint, they're awesome. Well, the helmet stripe is a tad goofy, and the pant's stripe should go all the way up, but that's a function of Nike's ventalation based fabric cut so whatever, but from a historical standpoint, cut my eyes out. I just want big shoulder numbners again, red socks, red shoes, and thinner pant's stripes for the current uniforms. Then I'll be happy. As luck would have it, that seems to be the plan next year according to this graphic behhind Urban from Training Days:
Not that any of you care, but humor me.

They can never quite figure out what they are doing with the OSU helmet stripe, the pants stripe, and the arm stripe.
They always kinda sorta match but not really. I find it distracting.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:51 PM ^
Stripes are ugly. Stripes never quite match. Stripes are distracting. You should not wear any apparel branded with stripes.
November 15th, 2012 at 12:29 AM ^
The helmet and sleeves match. But, for some strange reason the pants black stripe is double width. Not bad from a visual perspective, but it doesn't match, which is infuriating. It's like LSU going purple-white-purple on the yellow helmet
but purple-yellow-white-yellow-purple on the yellow pants.
Mindblown. Makes no sense.
November 15th, 2012 at 2:28 PM ^
LSU is also a Nike school, isn't it?
I wonder what Adidas will do to retaliate? Poorly execute some chrome helmets?
November 14th, 2012 at 9:31 PM ^
So who cares if they wear pink?
November 14th, 2012 at 10:36 PM ^
Thanks for the John Cooper throwbacks, Nike!
