Official Jordan Kovacs Legends Patch Bitching Thread
I am so pissed they took 32 off Kovacs, not only that but just for the last 3 games of his career.... really.... wtf??? At this point why even do it, what's the point?
I was hoping Kovacs would get a legends patch of his own and that 32 would be worn by any future walk-on that excels and distinguishes himself as an irreplaceable and valuable member of the team as Kovacs has. I guess those hopes are no more.
I can't be the only one that thinks this is stupid. All bitching goes here.
I would put the "Damn all the things!" pic here but I couldn't find it.
EDIT: Thanks to BeileinBuddy for posting it.

I do agree a kovacs legend patch should be awarded to a walk-on that exemplifies outstanding character, effort, and leadership both on and off the field.
No doubt in going to cry over Denards intro on senior day but the tears will already be flowing from the announcement of Jordan Kovacs. Thank you for everything!! A true Michigan man and an example that you can do anything you put your mind to.

Lets bitch about the possibiliity that the helmets might change, but honoring 3 former athletes who had their number retired by giving it to our best team player is too far?

Thank you.

God, it just dawned on me one of my friends from UM had the last name of Oosterbaan.

There have been 133 years of Michigan Football and Kovacs IS NOT one of the best to ever to play for Michigan. I love him and thank him for being an exemplary Michigan Man, but he is not on the same level as a Gerald Ford or Desmond Howard, period.
The second arguement that somehow he will lose his association with the number 32 is also ridiclous. We all watched him for almost 4 years play his heart out for Michigan. Let him be honored with this new tradition and cheer for the Maize and Blue like true Wolverines do.

Yeah, I think it's appropriate for adults to get upset about what jersey numbers a player wears.
November 10th, 2012 at 9:16 PM ^
I don't mind the "legend" jerseys, but how about they only wear them for one game, unless it is the jersey they started with (like Hemmingway with 21).

I think that would be even weirder. Switching numbers is like changing your name. You don't do it willy-nilly. If you switch, that's it - you don't go back.
Now that all of the Legend numbers have been brought back, it'll settle down. There won't be any more midseason number switches.

Well, Brandon Moore is wearing Ron Kramer's #87, and he's not had a particularly distinguished career. You do not have to actually be a legendary player in your own right to wear a Legends jersey (although Kovacs, as a four-year starter, has had a pretty good career). You just have to be someone the staff feels will represent the number with dignity.

1. Kovacs accepted the honor
2. Kovacs, while a great player and better story is not Legends level
3. #32 was worn by Anthony Thomas, a more important player in the Michigan pantheon
4. While Kovacs now wears #11, if my evaluation of his Legends status is wrong, he can always be honored as a #32 since he established his identity with that number
The lack of perspective here is breathtaking.

I don't feel like giving Kovacs #11 is bad. He may only have a few games left but it is an honor to get to wear one of the legacy jerseys. Not very many people will get to wear one, and you can't argue that he is one of the most deserving candidates

Being a Michigan legend doesn't require him playing on Sundays... but is Kovaks on anyone's draft board? I would assume at a minimum he gest a FA contract to try out with someone, but is he a legit pro prospect?
Of cousre, no one thought Stevie Brown was...!

We all have grown to love Kovacs, which is amusing to me considering most people's reactions to him playing ( OMG A WALK ON? UNACCEPTABLE ! ) back in 2009/10.
Having said that, he's not an All American, Heisman winner, or similarly influential player. I don't think he's worthy of his own Legends jersey number ( meaning #32).
I have zero problems with him getting #11 and I'm actually very pleased he was given one of the Legends jerseys. To go from walk on to 3 year starter is huge; not to mention didn't he lead Michigan in tackles one year?

Shut up.

So what I'm reading here is Kovacs isn't legends worthy because he isn't All-American or NFL worthy.
Bull!
Show me someone on the team who loves Michigan Football more than Kovacs. it doesn't exist. Kovacs is allright wearing #11.
Go Blue.

have a difficult time making their own number special.
#1 was nothing at Michigan until Anthony Carter
#21 was nothing until Desmond Howard
#2 was nothing until Charles Woodson.....unless you remember Rich Hewlett like me and you were 10 and for some dumb reason he was your favorite player

then you need to get a life. bitching about this is bitching just to bitch. maybe kovacs wanted this? ever think of that? really dude, it's a number we are talking about. a number.
November 11th, 2012 at 9:20 AM ^
Not sure many current players of even future players can grasp the importance or meaningfulness of number 11. 32 on the other hand has come to represent the fight, the focus, and the clawing out of tough times for Michigan. That is Kovacs, and that is what he stands for.
I can't say i wasn't a bit surprised and maybe even dissapointed to see 11 on him.
November 11th, 2012 at 5:56 PM ^
If you're really pissed off about this, were you outraged that Junior wore Howard's number last year?
And Kovacs getting a legend's patch of his own? I think being a starter on two of the worst Michigan defenses in history will write him off of that. Plus as others have said, he doesn't deserve it over other that have worn that number like A-Train.
