Late Afternoon Games Open Thread - Christmas in East Lansing

Submitted by M-Wolverine on

MSU helps us or sucks some more. Win-win. It's actually a pretty good day for games all around all day.

Mod Edit: Couldn't help editing the title. Staee! [zl]

Oklahoma just picked off the gloriously named Steel Jantz to end the Iowa State threat.

Should be no delay in seeing a Christmas-colored East Lansing.

I'll just say it: If MSU does us a favor, Arizona wins their game tonight, and USC loses to Oregon...

M and the Wildcats will each control their own destiny for a spot in the Rose Bowl.

Oh my would ABC love that.

Meanwhile, the first offensive drive for Illinois started in the customary fashion - Scheelhaase was sacked. After an exchange of unimpressive, brief attempts at drives for both the Illini and the Buckeyes, we're back to Beckmanball.

The Notre Dame Pittsburgh game is the classic Notre Dame letdown game. A 500 team comes in and knocks off the undefeated Irish. I'm calling it here first you can call me a genius later. If I'm wrong It's because I drank too much during the Michigan game

always play each other close. I agree Pitt is definitely overmatched this season, but recent history would imply a very close game with Pitt playing well above their talent level. From the last four years:

ND @ Pitt, 15-12 ND

Pitt @ ND, 23-17 ND

ND @ Pitt, 27-22 Pitt

Pitt @ ND, 36-33 Pitt (4 OT)

Also, beating #3 ND and losing to UConn on Friday is a very Pitt Football thing to do, so I wouldn't be terribly surprised by anything.

Scheelhaase has underthrown almost everything on this last drive,  partially due to the offensive line getting zero push. Indeed, the turf has three catches for about 40 yards just on that last drive, on its way to a monster game at WR.

but gosh darn is MSU's offense sad. I feel hopefully that they can win when the D is out and then the offense comes out and does nothing. This is painful to watch

YEAH MSU interception.... yeah... I'm finding this pretty damn hard to root for MSU.  But I keep telling myself that after they win today (please), UM will be looking real good at being B1G Champs and going to the Rose Bowl.  That would be another hugh step for this program and I would be SO HAPPY for our seniors, especially Denard and Kovacs who deserve this.

Am I jumping the gun a little?  OK, yes.

Back to (sort-of) rooting for MSU.
