Nebraska, Michigan remaining schedules

Submitted by turd ferguson on

It looks like the Legends division could be a two horse race the rest of the way, so it's worth looking at the schedules. They have the tiebreaker, but this thing is far from over.

MICHIGAN

@ Minnesota (11/3)
Northwestern (11/10)
Iowa (11/17)
@ Ohio State (11/24)

NEBRASKA

@ Michigan State (11/3)
Penn State (11/10)
Minnesota (11/17)
@ Iowa (11/23)

It seems unlikely that Nebraska runs the table (with any win probabilities I'm thinking of, at least).  If we can take care of business over the next three weeks - and damn, Denard would make that easier - then there's a good chance that the OSU game is for a trip to Indianapolis/Pasadena this year.

Who are we going to score 20 points against? I would prefer to watch bad D and an offense that scores then the train wreck that has been the last two weeks.  These type of games have to make the blue bloods happy as the fans always make noise when the other team has the ball. Now we don't have much to cheer about when we have the ball.

Even if Denard comes back we look to have no shot at beating OSU whose offense ran roughshod all over two defenses we scored a combined total of 7 field goals on, which means Nebraska has to lose twice which I don't think is likely.  PSU and Iowa are pretty horrible I don't see why they have such high % up there.

Indiana might just need 1 more conference win @Purdue on Nov 24 to get to 3-5 and win the head-to-head tie-breaker over Wiscy & Purdue.

I think its time to admit we are a mediocare team this year and are just benefiting from a down a big ten, we are on the upswing but the offensive talent just isn't there and as much as i love denard he isn't the greatest qb of all time, we didn't score a td in a game and half and our offense has been shit against any defense with a pulse and its not just borges playcalling.  I think nebraska loses again but I don't see us winning out. I think nebraska and us finish tied, and that means no rose bowl for the wolverines this year, it sucks but this year is gonna be building towards the future, and i am ok with that

We will see, borges used to call an agressive gameplan until the nd game this year when we decided throws longer than 10 yards more than once a game tend to end in interceptions and i can't really blame him for thinking that, if gardner or morris can prove to be even an average (read college football not big ten) qb i think the offense actually opens up a little bit more.

I dare say that Nebraska has the slightly more difficult schedule, based on recent performances of their opponents, going into the remaining four games. Consider that, after last night, we are 2nd in total defense and 7th in total offense in the conference. A summary look at the updated stats reveals the following for the Big Ten in relation to our own schedule:

@ Minnesota (11/3)  - 6th in total defense, 8th in total offense (in conference)

Northwestern (11/10) - 10th in total defense, 5th in total offense

Iowa (11/17) - 7th  in total defense, 11th in total offense

@ Ohio State (11/24) - 9th in total defense,  3rd in total offense

At no point as of now do we play a better defense, and only in two cases are we playing a more prolific offense than our own. Even now, all four of these games are within reach by the numbers, and a healthy Denard Robinson obviously helps keep them all in reach. We are definitely not out of the question for a trip to the BTCG yet.

Granted it took a while for Denard to miss significant time. I'd be much less concerned with Gardner in there. Assume Denard returns and gets hurt again. We cave again? Also shows overview issues on offensive line and skill positions. No one home to step up and assume a leadership role. Unfortunately I'd have to say we are still 2-3 years away. Still to land a stud RB and WR to make this happen. The rest of this year is a crap shoot.

If Denard can not go, Al needs to put Devin under center. I feel like we could of or had a chance to win the game with Devin. If Denards out for a play or two I agree with Bellomy but if DRob can't go, we have zero chance with Bellomy, the kid is just not ready. Hope the Senior class did not get robbed out of Indy because of the QB decsion made last night by the coaching staff.

I still think Michigan has a pretty decent shot of making the title game with a healthy Denard. I think Michigan's defense would play better against tOSU than Nebraska's and that Michigan would be able to move the ball down there with Denard. However, without him this team has just looked abysmal.

Al is going to need to do a little soul-searching. Hard to tell what the answer is when so many things look like they're going wrong, but what he's done the last two games is not working.

I think Shane will look just like Bellomy if you throw him in there next year. We in trouble unless we get a couple last minute instant impact offensive studs in the next class. Green and treadwell please? We have no instant impact qb ioptions for the foreseeable future IMO. Just shooting for competent enough now. Gulp.

Agreed.  I can not imagine a true freshman QB looking good- it is not about athletic ability (well, its a little about that) but about decision making and maturity.

I think it is a competition between Gardner and Bellomy, and I don't think Saturday'e game tells us too much one way or the other.  I guess we already know what the biggest question at the spring game is going to be...

Going into the season, this was the game on the schedule that concerned me.  Playing a night game in Lincoln, against a revenge-minded NU team after last year, one week after Sparty sounded pretty daunting.  It's hard to get "up" for every opponent.  If you pointed all offseason to MSU, the game after MSU is going to be tough.  As it turned out, I think we might have won if Denard had gone the distance, but it did seem like we weren't as sharp even with him in there.

On the plus side, I could see the same happening to the Huskers next week.  Last year they thrashed Sparty, 24-3, in Lincoln.  MSU is out for payback and gets them at home.  NU might have a hard time getting emotionally up for the game after this week.  Sparty just might do us a favor.

I think UM can still make it to Indy, but we can't have another performance like last night.  If Denard goes down, Gardner has to take the reins and run the offense, Bellomy isn't ready.  He's a good kid don't get me wrong and he could be the starter after Devin graduates, especially if they have Shane RS, which I think would be a good idea.

Not to the op, but ffs would everyone quit hating on Bellomy? Kid was put in a tough spot to begin with. Had some passes on target that were promptly dropped, and we refused to throw the ball downfield so N stacked to box and blitzed like a German invasion of Poland. What the hell was he going to do to be successful?
