ESPNU Elite 11 Show (My take)

Submitted by chimmychonga on
So pretty much I felt like I was watching one of those And 1 shows. It was all theatrical and mini clips. No constant drilling was shown just a few clips of like three practices. The "Pro" counselors were Chase Daniels and Matt Sanchez. The college ones were Zac Robinson, Daryll Clark, and Colt McCoy.

They had the golden gun award for accuracy as many of you know. Given to Tyler Bray pretty much every time. It was basically a Heaps, Bray, Montana, and Sims love fest about how they stood out a little more than anyone else. Clips were shown about them for the first twenty minutes.

Another thing that they showed was the players off the field. They went to the beach (Whoo!), Made fun of Phillip Sims not being able to swim, and showed Nick Montana win a NCAA 10 competition. Yay him...

Now for what everyone cares about- Devin Gardner

Oh one thing to point out he is not the only one who liked the safari hat.A few other of the guys were wearing them.

As for him in the camp, I couldn't tell you anything other than he threw the ball at least two times while he was there, because they were suckin' on Montana, Bray, Heaps, and Sims ball sacks. They had a nice little 2 minute interview with him where he was talking about trash talk with Boisture. He mentioned how Inkster was a small school in Detroit, how their track and football field was not great, and how they did not have all the nice equiptment other schools have. He said he kind of liked it because it keeps his teammates and he grounded. Other than that the only other time he was mentioned in the show was for third place on the last day in the accuracy competition.

Overall the show was ok. I guess I was expecting more Gardner. In fact, Joe Montana was shown more than at least six of the fucking QB's there...

I recorded it and just got finished with it. They definitely show a bit more love to the "pro style" QBs and I wonder if that's due to a higher possibility they will make it to the pros. The founder of the camp was trying to brag about their success in having 52% of the Elite 11 attendees being drafted. So I'm thinking that they really wanted to showcase the talent they uncovered. What I really found interesting was two-fold. First, it's a whole program about top-level quarterbacks and hardly ever showed how the pass ended up, really focused on just a close up the QB. Second, they preached how the "film" sessions was such a huge part of camp but didn't show one second of it. What did why show them? Devin just looked like a 6'5" gazelle that was in great condition and has a great frame. Sims (Bama commit) looked quite out of shape (think William Campbell but in a QBesque body) and the rest were mostly beam poles with the exception of Montana. Bolden was shown maybe twice that totaled 10 seconds of video time. I like the QB we got and from looking at the special I don't think I would choose any other QB for our team.

I second the film study part. I would have love to just a small of the counselors giving tips to the recruits on what to look for when watching film. I may also want to watch this because Gardner won the Best in Classroom award...

I enjoyed the show, but I was expecting something different. I was hoping to see more highlights - of the QB's. I was hoping to see more analysis from the pros - objective, useful analysis. I was hoping to see more coaching, and teaching. And after all the high praise given to Devin Gardner after the camp, I was hoping to see more Devin Gardner. Like chimmychonga said, "It was basically a Heaps, Bray, Montana, and Sims love fest." It was good entertainment for an hour on a Thursday, but in the end, it was pretty much a Fluff-Fest.

How can you not like a guy from Inkster who was best in classroom and can explain the virtue of being grounded at his poor high school. and he runs like a gazelle or something. This is my speed, compared to some asshole from USC.

I watched it for twenty minutes before I couldn't take it anymore and switched channels to watch something less irritating, like Rachel Ray. I hoped to see more about the players, but they seemed more intent on telling you how great the Elite 11 camp really is.

Did anyone else notice he didn't have a single clip shown of him throwing, and he was barley mentioned. At one point a camp counsler said "I'm not naming names, but someone doesn't look like they belong." I'm pretty sure he was talking about Boisture. That kid going to san diego state is a steal for them. I won't be suprised if he decommits and plays at a powerhouse school.
