ND-Stanford Call

Submitted by TheGhostofYost on

I was just curious what everyone's thoughts were on the end of the ND game.  Looked like a clear touchdown to me.  Am I missing something?

Very good point.  I saw the Stanford player clearly turn to his side to avoid the helmet to helmet and sacrificed his RIB CAGE in order to maintain "safety on the field".  How was he rewarded...15 yard penalty.  Good point I completly forgot about that.

I don't know if it is the bigger issue, but that was a weak call. The 3rd down PI call was iffy too, but it's PI, they are all iffy. Either way, ND got 30 of their last 45 yards on the game tying drive from the zebras, but they screwed Stanford (and all of humanity really) for the last 3 inches.

I thought it was a touchdown, but after watching it over several times.  I can understand the non-ruling on the field with keeping the play as stands.

The thing that really irks me is the BLATANT personal foul facemask on the running back on 3rd and goal the play just before the last of the game.  Maybe I wasn't paying as close attention but man, that notre dame defender had himself some stanford face in his hands! That's the play that cost stanford the game  IMO and the one I am much more pissed off about.

That is all...

Stanford got hosed on this call. Of course, ND still might have legitimately won the game in a later OT period, but the game should have gone to a second OT.

Complete lack of ballz by the on field refs and the replay official. They probably knew they would be lynched if they overturned  the call on the field (read: made the correct call) and Stanford later won in a second (or third...) OT.

He definately got in but it seemed like it wasn't until after the side judge ran in marking it short and the ND players let up and started celebrating.

It was a controversial call, but arguable as to whether Stanford got "hosed" or not. It appeared his forward momentum was stopped, and the ref began running in and waving the play dead as he kept moving forward and reached the ball across the line. His elbow may have been down a split second before the ball crossed, and additionally he fumbled the ball at almost the exact moment it crossed the goal line. So basically, there's no way I can see whatever was called on the field could be overturned.

It was definitely a close call though, and ND is lucky it went the way it did.

That's what I thought too. The announcers didn't mention it, but I thought that quite possibly his left elbow hit the ground just before the ball crossed the plane. Impossible to tell for sure with the camera angles, but on that basis I don't think I would have overturned the call if it were up to me. Of course I'd be pretty irritated if I were a Stanford fan, but that's always the case when a critical call like this, on review, is not completely conclusive either way.

Taylor had control of the ball as he reached over the goal line. *Indisputable*.

But as he lunged, he lost his cushion of players underneath him, and his left shoulder disappears out of view.

My *guess* is that Taylor's shoulder pad hit the ground before he got the ball over.  But either way, it wasn't clear to me.

It was a TD. The run two plays prior also looked like the Stanford RB broke the plain. It was definitely worthy of a video review. ND has 2 tough games left in OU and USC. Are they pretty much assured a BCS bowl with potentially 2 losses?

the ref standing in front of the play who didn't call it a TD screwed everything up.  I think it would have been hard to overturn, hence the no overturn.

I hate Notre Dame!

if I was to find a silver lining it would be that our two losses will most likely come from top five teams...

Obvious blown calls on the touchdown and phantom helmet to helmet. Then the blatant over the top homerism of the announcers...sickening. Good thing the force of karma is greater than the luck of the Irish. I see at least 3 losses in their future.

This is whats consider to be...The Luck of The Irish. Hasn't been on display cause the irish have been inrealvant. But,when Lou was manning the sideline...these type of calls were quite common. thing. Stanford was robbed...no doubt!!!

Even my ex and her mother says, that's a td...

Stanford had the TD there, that was whack. BCS has two more years left. They want to get ND in before it's over.

Let's give ND some credit though. Their defense is legit and Stanford doesn't look like it did with Luck. Regardless of how the teams they scheduled look now, before the season that schedule looked like DEATH and they are 6-0. I still think they are severely overrated and getting a lot of that "THE IRISH ARE BACK" love. Jury is still out until after Oklahoma & SC.

No doubt that was a TD. Ridiculous call.

I suppose it helps us that ND won, as far as BCS etc.

But I don't really care too much either way because to hell with Notre Dame.

Believe we lost to them by only 7 with 6 turnovers and playin like dog shit... And now look at them. Makes me sick but oh well thats the way it goes, can't argue with it. I mean shoot, look at us last year.

After watching Oklahoma today they will destroy Notre Dame. They shutdown Texas's high powered offence, imagine what they will do to ND.  And they will not get calls like that in Norman.

Those were Stanford's refs on the field.  People keep saying that the next game will show us up.  So why don't you all just wait until we actually play Oklahoma.

Every questionable call went against Stanford.  On the final OT drive he was absolutely in on 3rd down.  The whole ball was in.  4th down was closer, but he was still in.  Stanford coach knew he was getting jobbed even before the OT period.

I only watched because they left the Michigan game here in the 4th quarter. The Notre Dame network is basically unwatchable with those announcers.  It's less annyoing when my wife tries to have a conversation during a game than it is to listen to them.

Oh well. Notre Dame is still ridiculously overrated, and will be destroyed in Norman, and destroyed in the Coliseum, if that's all they lose then they'll probably be destroyed by the loser of the SEC title game in a BCS bowl.

Then next year they lose by far their best player on defense. Oh and their offense will still suck.

Chill people NBC contract will peter out eventually. Luck is running out and soon they will be back to normal mediocrity with tons of unwarranted hype.
