Friday Night Lights: Pitt/Syracuse, USU/BYU

Submitted by justingoblue on

Pitt trails 14-0 early in the second quarter, though they're knocking on the door right now.

Utah State takes on BYU at 10:30 Eastern.

I can't watch a Pitt football game without massive quantities. I'm not even a Pitt fan, but watching anybody do anything as incompetently as Pitt plays football just depresses the hell out of me.

It may have been momentarily lost in the lights, although this brings up something I have wondered regarding the Carrier Dome. If the punt should get lodged in the dome superstructure, do the rules allow for a vertical line to be drawn from the spot in the frame to the field to determine the spot on the field?

I remember once that Dave Kingman managed to hit a pop-up into one of the holes in the roof the Metrodome, and they called it a ground-rule double.  So, I think if a punt gets lodged in the Carrierdome susperstructure, it should also be a ground-rule double.

First, Dave Wannstedt could definitely recruit, and then getting lucky as well.

LeSean McCoy was a high school stud, five star type who was originally going to Miami before some strange stuff happened, Wannstedt got him coming out of prep school. Dion Lewis was an absolute diamond in the rough type situation, where he was actually sending out film to Big East schools; Pitt offered after about five minutes of film. Ray Graham was just flat out winning a recrutiting battle. Looking at his Rivals offer list, Pitt was probably the best choice (I'd consider MSU his second best offer).

It is a bit of a pity that Pitt could not capitalize on  Syracuse's famous "Cover What?" formation that allowed Mike Shanahan  to be mere steps from  being able to take it home.

Now I've gone out to eat and am posting from a Peruvian restaurant. The angry women on the telenovella being broadcast above the cash register could defeat Pitt in football.

Jerome Smith goes all Sam McGuffie and hurdles for the first down. Nice indeed.

Not too much later, Nassib slides for another first down.  This drive may have some legs,  folks.

BYU's freshman QB is looking good; 5/5 so far, because they're giving him really easy passes to throw. Denard is a much better passer than this kid, but I sure wish Borges would do a bit more of that stuff.
