TerBush Bulletin Board Material

The Indianopolis Star has an article on Purdue's chances of making it to the B1G championship game in Indy.  At the end, there is an interesting quote from Purdue QB Caleb TerBush that seems to be perfectly made as bulletin board material for the Michigan locker room:

"We don't want to get caught up in looking ahead, and then you miss those games you should win," quarterback Caleb TerBush said. "We have to stay focused on the task ahead, and that's Michigan."

Now I don't think Michigan needs any extra incentive to play hard on Saturday; the poor play against ND and taking the first step toward winning the B1G should be enough.  And I don't blame TerBush for showing confidence, either, but his sentiment does seem like a stupid thing to say to a reporter because it can so easily be construed as meaning he sees Michigan as a trap game, a game that Purdue should definitely win. Perhaps the only reason Purdue might not win is that they are looking ahead to prepare for better teams later in their schedule.

From the context it appears he's saying something different, talking about defending the home turf, being sure to play strong at home.

Or, maybe in TerBush's eyes Purdue really has arrived and is superior to Michigan.

Yeah, this is a non story. He thinks his team should win this weekend? Weird. He didn't say anything bad about Michigan, and even said he needs to take us seriously. Would you have expected him to say he thinks they'll finish fifth in the division and don't have a shot against us?

baited into a trap quote, actually.  The way this should read is "we are not thinking about that right now, we are thinking about beating Michigan."  He is newbie, that is just a rhetorical mistake, not any slight at Michigan.

Michigan is going to blow the doors off of Purdue, and I am pretty sure Terbush knows it.  He should have just gone with "we are only thinking about the next game."

I think the only response Michigan can possibly mount at this point is to start Bellomy and have him toss TDs to Roundtree all day.

Boom! Saturday's game plan, right there.

Purdue might want to note that the reason people think they can compete for the Big Ten title this year is that every team in the conference either (A) sucks, (B) is ineligible to win said title, or (C) both.  I'm not sure that home wins over Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Michigan, and Marshall have turned them into a juggernaut quite yet.

this is neither interesting, nor bulletin-board worthy.

can you really imagine writing on your board that the other team is focusing on you this week? novel concept. Purdue is preparing for michigan! hide your wife and children...

Where does the tipping end? No one has ever tipped me for doing what is expected of my job! Tip the lawn service? Tip the mail man? Where does it end, and yes i expect a backlash from former or current servers....

He meant he doesn't want to look ahead to playing Michigan in the Big Ten Championship Game again, and concentrate on the first game against us.
