OT: New songs for the MMB?
So the Oregon marching band did this:
Would you want to see the MMB play this? What about any other songs? Are there any new songs out now that you'd like to see the band play, maybe in specific situations?
I think it'd be funny as hell if at the hockey games if they busted this out for when they make the band director dance (do they still do that? I haven't been to a game in a few years). I can also see them doing Alex Clare's "Too Close" if the other team is getting too close to the red zone or something like that at football games, or if the score is tight. What do you guys think?
EDIT: The original post had to be deleted and reposted with the mods help because it was glitching and not allowing me to reply to posts, so sorry if your comments were lost.

Now I have Fiddler in the Roof - "Tradition" running through my head. Nothing wrong with the classics and I'm not suggesting we replace them, I just want them to add to what they play, instead of piped in music.

How about The Macarena?

collapses in puddle of vomit.
I really hate that song. I'm not yet sick of Gangnam style, but in a few more months I probably would be. I just think it'd be funny to see the band director dance to it at a hockey game.

They already did it, against UMass.

That's a halftime show, the MMB does a new halftime show each week, which takes planning and are pretty much set before the season even starts. You'll notice the Oregon band doesn't move the entire song, the song is pretty new and they may not have had time to add moves, which takes time.
As for stand tunes (in the stands), I doubt the MMB itself will ever play Gangnam style, but maybe the hockey or basketball band?
Edit: they already did the dance, but didn't play the song.

It's time people stopped asking. It's been like this since 2005. And will never change.

I graduated before then, I didn't know the new band guy was such a buzzkill.

Not to open an old can of worms, but it was never up to the director as to whether or not he could or would dance. It came from the administration who at the time (when YouTube and Facebook were just starting to become popular) felt that the possibility of "suggestive" dance moves being posted online would ruin the hockey band director's chance of employment at other schools.
However, I and many others debate the suggestiveness of a white guy flailing around to Blues Brothers or any other hockey band song.

My bad for blaming the band director, I should've figured out it'd be the stuffed shirts in the AD and administration that are cracking down on the band dance, just like their never ending war on the See Ya chant. Apologies to any in the band that know the director and were insulted by my blaming of him.
That said, I agree with you maizenbluesooner that there was never anything particularly suggestive to the guy's flailing moves. Funny as hell, but not in any way, shape, or form titillating or inappropriate.

The Final Countdown not so much, but it could be played soon. Stayin' Alive was in the Saturday Night Fever show in 2010, but never really played in the stands. You Should Be Dancin' comes up every once in a while though.

You know, I have heard this notion that "Temptation" and "Hawaiian War Chant" were popular songs back in the 1960's. Thus, they are equivalent to popular songs of today. HENCE, we should be incorporating RIDICULOUS popular songs of today such as "Holla Back Girl" into the MMB canon. To that assertion I say, when a songmaintains its popularity over multiple generations, then it is worthy:

If "popular" you mean with the over-50 crowd, sure. For anybody under the age of 30 back then, those songs were the unbearably corny tunes that their parents listened to on their old 78 rpm records. I know because I was there.

If they bring her along just like PSY did...

Stuff does get added... there is pllllenty of material in the band's practice flip folders, it's just a matter of picking which ones to memorize for stands play.
Me? I just want to be able to hear them well in the stadium...

knowing that eventually they'll prob be playing "call me maybe" is the only reason im happy im not going to a game this year.

Already done, so go to a game and support your team.

Last year I got in touch with a few MMB members about doing a parody of "I Think I'm Gonna Like It Here" from Little Orphan Annie, with the words changed. This would have been for the Nebraska game. Originally I posted it on Corn Nation: http://www.cornnation.com/2010/6/10/1512242/i-think-youre-gonna-like-it…
Went like this...
Oh hey there Red, I just wanted to personally wish Nebraska and its (by reputation) fantastic fans to one hell of a conference...
(press play and sing along)
[MICHIGAN]
[spoken] Now Nebraska, what would you like to do first?
[NEBRASKA]
[spoken] Well, first I'll pretend to be rivals with some nowhere state I guess. Then I'll see if I can get us on a local TV station -- that way maybe a few thousand people might realize the other teams in our conference besides me exist...
[MICHIGAN]
[spoken] No, no, you don't understand. You won't have to do any conference building while you're here.
[NEBRASKA]
[spoken] I won't? But then how am I going to earn my keep?
[MICHIGAN]
[spoken] Why you're our guest, Nebraska!
cue music
[PURDUE]
The Big Ten Network will show your classic games.
[BTN]
[spoken] The '70s are her best era; no, '90s I think.
[IOWA]
Your bowl game tie-ins are recruiting dreams...
[CITY OF ORLANDO]
[spoken] Tangerine, no, Citrus I think!
[NORTHWESTERN]
The CIC will come to check your grades....
[COMPLIANCE OFFICERS]
[spoken] All B's...hmmm...maybe you need some R&D money for pharmaceutical research.
[NEBRASKA]
I think I'm gonna like it here!
[OHIO STATE]
A third of the nation's high school football teams are to your right.
[NEBRASKA]
[spoken] Inside the house? Oh boy!
[MINNESOTA]
The hockey rink is in the rear
[NEBRASKA]
[spoken] I never even laced up a skate...
[WISCONSIN]
[spoken] What?
[WISCONSIN]
Have an instructor here at noon.
[spoken] Oh, and get that Red Berenson fellow if he's available.
[NEBRASKA]
I think I'm gonna like it here!
[ILLINOIS]
When you're high, visit I,
I'll let you come and slouch...
[MICHIGAN STATE]
When you're done, just for fun,
We'll let you, burn the cooooooooouch!
[PENN STATE]
No need to ever fire your coach!
[NEBRASKA]
[spoken] That's okay, Osborne calls all the shots anyway.
[INDIANA]
We'll broadcast every game of hoooooops!
[ALL]
We have but one request
On our boards act your best!
[NEBRASKA]
I know I'm gonna like it here!
[NEBRASKA]:
Used to lie, with Judge and Cy
Where I'd sit and snooze
Get me now, holy cow
Could someone pass the booze?
[MICHIGAN STATE]
[spoken] on it, dude!
[At this point the cops arrive and MSU takes off running]
[OHIO STATE]
[spoken] He didn't mean it!
[DELANEY]
[spoken] Hey there, Nebraska: I've got something for ya ... here you are: your choice of New Years Day Bowl games!
[MICHIGAN, OHIO STATE and PENN STATE]
[singing] No need to hide your arrogance!
[MICHIGAN]: (You'll never touch our count of wins, we love to count our lovely wins!)
[NEBRASKA]
I'm very very glad to add 800 more!
[ALL]
[under our breaths] Give it 10 years she'll be our whore!
[PENN STATE]: hey!
[ALL]
We're glad you took a berth, We'll double your net worth
We know you're gonna like it here!!!!
But instead we did nyan cat.
