Potential 2015 National Championship Host Cities Narrowed to Six

Submitted by justingoblue on

ESPN has sources reporting that the 2015 national championship bidding will be limited to six cities: Glendale, AZ, Miami, FL, New Orleans, LA, Pasadena, CA, Arlington, TX and Atlanta, GA. Four of those are current BCS sites, with the Cotton Bowl and Chick-fil-A bowls being included as well.

With more time before the 2016 final, more cities are expected to be considered. ESPN lists those cities as Indianapolis, Detroit, St. Louis, Orlando, Fla., Houston, San Diego, Jacksonville, Fla., and Tampa, Fla.

Yes, because all of the other cities are just beautiful everywhere *cough* New Orleans, Detroit, Atlanta, Miami *cough cough*

The sites for the Championship game aren't going to show off the 9th ward of New Orleans, the scum of inner city Atlanta, or the so-called "very not nice areas" of Pasadena.

the part where I mentioned anything about any other city, which makes your point irrelevant to the conversation.  It really got blown out of hand as I was just making a joke on the fact of calling Pasadena a pretty northern city, where pretty was used to mean fairly or somewhat, not as a descriptor of the actual city.  Bravo for your reading comprehension skills though.

You think that the guy whose screen name inncludes "in LA" has only visited Pasadena as a tourist? Sharp, you are.

There are very few, if any, bad areas of Pasadena, and they certainly aren't anywhere near the Rose Bowl. Pasadena is one of the most expensive cities to live in in California, a state that is already very expensive. An average home in Pasadena costs around 800k, but many are a million plus.

Home values aside, Pasadena is a clean city in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains. If Pasadena isn't a pretty city - what is?

Actually don't mind that they are going to adopt a "Super Bowl-esk" bidding system. It actually opens it up to cities outside of the south. Would love to see a BCS championship game in Indy/Detroit/Dallas. Some non traditional location.

Good to hear about the bidding system. It'd be nice to see cities like Detroit, Indy, and maybe even St. Louis get the right to bid on the game.

Still, its probably going to end up in SEC country most years.

I doubt Detroit is ever going to host it. It was a stretch getting the Super Bowl, and we probably only got it because we had opened up a new stadium (or were going to) and leagues love rewarding that.

I would love to see Pasedena host. It is arguably the most tradition rich college football stadium, and it hosting the first championship game of a new era would be a nice bridge between old and new imo.

It would be totally awesome to see this game in the coolest stadium ever, the Toronto Skydome.  Toronto is a really nice city (not too far from Michigan either) with a good downtown and the ultra-modern Skydome even features a roof that can be opened if the weather is good...like if there are picture-perfect big white fluffy snowflakes falling.

To make it fair to everyone for 2015, they should simply host the game at the average of the latitudes and longitudes of the cities which have been authorized to bid on it, which would put the 2015 game in the ranchlands just north of Cameron, Texas, about halfway between Waco and College Station.

I do like the open bidding system going forward - it is about as fair can be at that point. There are quite a few cities north of 34 N (Pasadena) which could easily accommodate the game and the fans and media that would come with it and put on a good show as well.

Sorry to jack the thread, but this isn't really thread-worthy so I figured I'd post it here:

I saw a couple of days ago that someone said there were rumors going around that Gardner has broken his collarbone and will be out for the year, but they didn't provide any source.  Has anyone heard about Gardner's status?  Will he be fine for the Purdue game?

Since I am moving to San Diego soon, and Michigan will obviously be in every national championship from 2015 on, I am hoping for some Southern California sites.

St. Louis, Indianpolis (although because the B1G Championship is here not sure if they would do that) Detroit etc.
