According to Larry Lage on twitter, ND has canceled the 2015-17 games with Michigan.

#NotreDame has notified #Michigan it is exercising a 3-year out in their contract, meaning their last scheduled game will bein 2014

A letter from ND AD Swarbrick to UM AD Brandon cancelling games in 2015-17 was obtained by AP through a Freedom of Information Act request

I somehow have a feeling that Brandon will not care.  The contract likely has a liquidated damages clause in it that fixes the penalty in the event of a breach.  This seems like something Brandon would be willing to sacrifice to end the series on his terms.

Oh, and good riddance.  This ND series has grown tiresome, IMO.  It'll never be like the 90s again, when it was at its peak.  Times have changed.

Agreed.  It has a 3-year notice term, meaning they have to give 3-years notice prior to termination in order to avoid a penalty.  But the penalty is probably a fixed amount that Brandon would be willing to play to end the series on his terms.  I could be wrong about him though.

Notre Dame?  That kind of sucks.  I understood that time were changing but I was looking forward to it for a few more years.  Those were going to be some prime time matchups.

1. Decent is an adjective that means fitting, appropriate or in good taste. To pronounce the word, stress the first syllable to make a strong (long) "e" sound.

2. Descent is a noun that means a decline or the act of moving downward. The verb is descend. To pronounce , relax the first syllable and stress the second.

3. Dissent as a verb means to disagree or to differ in opinion. To pronounce this verb, stress the first syllable and relax the second.

Raise your hand if you didnt see this coming a mile away.  Trust me MSU is going to be next and probably Purdue too.  With USC Stanford, the service acadamies and five (to start) ACC games there just wasnt room on their schedule for three B1G games and the cupcakes they're going  to need to play.

Fuck Notre Dame.  Have fun playing your new tradional rivals Wake Forest, NC & NC State, Duke, Clemson, Virgina and all the other schools who have basically never played the Irish before.

Once Notre Dame started the drift towards the ACC (i.e., all other sports apart from football), with the proviso that it would play five ACC opponents in football, did anyone else think that the slow erosion of the historic Big Ten-Notre Dame rivalries would start to occur? It is a bit of a shame though - a few of these games have been rather exciting, but the "let's just be friends" attitude they've always taken with the Big Ten has gotten old and increasingly irksome over time...so, au revoir, Notre Dame!

Right, so once we get really good, they want none of us. That makes sense.

That's fine, we'll beat up on someone else then. We just need to beat them the next two years.

Won't be gone long.  Like others have said, there is too much to gain for both sides.  Give me a low risk, high reward investment any day.

Obviously I can't start a thread, so no thread jack here--someone can move if need be.  I know rollbamaroll.com isn't everyone's favorite around here, but they are good for a read on Tuesdays.

(No UM in there, so it's safe.)

Won't miss them - wish this had happened years ago.

Also think they were really pissed about the UTL game - not only losing it but all the attention focused on the awesomeness of Michigan and Ann Arbor that weekend - they don't like playing second fiddle and they were relegated to it that day.

Anyone recall any classy shots of downtown South Bend during Saturday's telecast?

In a way they have a similar obstacle that MSU has.

ND just never will surpass UM; they are so close with the Win total and Winning%, but yet there still is a glaring gap that separates them.

UM taught them how to play football. Literally.

Shane beats Gunner 42-0 in SB in the series farewell.  I say then let's get a yearly series with Stanford that gets them to ditch ND.  Not sure how we sell it to Stanford but it would be so nice to stick it to ND so they only get to Cali every other year for a beat down.
