Big House Expansion??

Submitted by Chi-Blue on

So with the new facility upgrades that have been announced I saw that almost every sports facility is up for some work accept the BIG HOUSE. I know we just spent like 250 mil on the upgrades and boxes just a couple years ago, but I thought I heard some news of some seating going in the voids between the new score boards and the boxes?? I figured that this would be included in this new 7-10 year plan, but did not see it on he website. Does anyone know anything more about it??

Lambeau Field which has a very similar design to Michigane stadium is putting in an addition much like what I think DB would be thinking of doing. Just a little look see . . .

That's just silly. You can't say, "So I know we just had a 250 million dollar expansion, but when's the next one coming?" Are we already taking the boxes for granted? Yeah, DB mentioned filling in the gaps, but that was just a "sometime in the future we'll think about this" thing, hold your horses there

Also, it's *except the Big House, not accept the Big House

I wouldn't mind it as long as that entire metal framework in the middle is turned into a giant video board. That would make it worth it

Fielding H Yost wanted the stadium reinforced so that it could someday hold up to 150,000.  If it's good enough for Fielding H Yost, it's good enough for me.

...but let's worry about filling what we have right now on a game-in/game-out basis. I love Ann Arbor, Michigan...but we can only host so many people in this economy, with this location, etc.

With that said, until we get the Chicago Maroons back on the schedule...150,000 will not be in the question. A favorite rivalry game of mine.

It'd be cool, but for the time-being, not sure it'd be economically feasible. I highly doubt we'd sell out the cupcake games, and that would not look good for TV and the brand. I guess it really all depends on the demand the school is getting for extra tickets, as well as Ann Arbor's capacity to hold this amount of people.

If there's an additional 20-30,000 Michigan fans out there that want to come to the games and will if they can get tickets, I'm all for an expansion. But I have zero desire to expand for the sake of expanding, not sell out every game, or even worse, open up thousands of new seats for opposing fans to come in and use. There's enough Ohio scum that comes in for the game. Why give them more seats?

The plan has been shelved.  Brandon is bringing the non-revenue sports up to top notch facilities status over the next 10 years, which is awesome for the overall Michigan brand.  Remember, for every $1 Brandon spends we pay $2.  I'm in no hurry to see ticket prices climb even higher.

At the current rate of expansion, Crisler will become the southwest mezzanine of Michigan Stadium by 2020. Further, Facilities Services will then have its administrative offices completely inside Concession Stand 9 behind Section 42 and the south scoreboard will be situated just across the street from Busch's.
