BTN not available on Dish Network

Submitted by Trust the Process on
Anyone else notice that it is unavailable? Luckily Michigan isn't on BTN today, but this is not good news for Dish customers. This would absolutely be a deal breaker for me, but my building only offers Dish. Hope they get a deal done this week.

Big Ten Network and DISH have come together to reach an agreement in principle for DISH to continue carrying BTN. We expect to finalize a long-term agreement soon and we thank fans for their patience.

This might sound asinine but I couldn't get it last year a couple times but it showed up on the BTN "alt" station. Unless your saying the BTN is completely missing from dish

expected to wake up w/it removed from my Dish Network channels.. but it's still here. But I was kinda hoping it was gone so I would have more incentive to switch providers. I was pissed when they took AMC.. this would be the final straw. But it's not over, they could still pull it I believe. Which would be a huge mistake.

Anyways, luckily Michigan is on ABC today in case it does just disappear at some point.

I know when the BTN launched it was in my Dish package at my cottage and they pulled it from my package after ayear of so.  I wonder if they just moved it to a different tier or sports only package.  If they did you can call, get it added for a day and then cancel.  You get hit for some fees ($5?) but don't have to upgrade full time unless you want.

I would gvie them a call and see what is up.

Anyone that gets satellite is a sucker.  It's inevitable that it's gonna get choppy and have outages.

(Watch now everyone that has satellite is gonna neg me for speaking the truth.)

...I've had only a few brief outages in heavy rain over 10 years as a satellite TV customer.   I've been very satisfied, except for inevitable price jumps and a bad DVR episode a few years ago.  And you can't beat NFL Sunday Ticket it you're an out-of-town fan that only sees a few games of your favorite team during the year.

I had grown tired of cable TV's horrendous customer service.  I also recall a certain UM-MSU game that I was watching on cable in the late 90's that cut off in the 4th quarter during a very tight game...not cool.   So I kinda laugh at the notion that cable TV has 100% uptime.

Ocassionaly, but really not too often.. the satellite gets interference. But it never lasts long. Anyways, only reason I switched to dish network is because they gave me a sweet package at a good price.. and it was back when dish was the first to grab BTN. As for the sports package, I have no complaints... I get BTN/NFL Network/MLB Network/FSN/ESPN's/RedZone/etc. There's never a shortage of sports.. and if there is something I somehow miss, I can stream a lot from my ESPN app on Xbox360.. or the internet.

Not saying Dish is the best by any means, but i've really got no complaints and like the price.

If you have a unique name, you can access the big ten network through the university. Follow the instructions bellow:

1) Download the UMich VPN client:  http://www.itcom.itd.umich.edu/vpn/

2) Connect using the "All Traffic" profile

If you have any problems, let me know.  I've set this up on a few operating systems so far for friends. The only one where I haven't seen it work is Linux, but I'm not a Linux jock so I bet some one could.

Using a Mc with 10.6's built in Cisco VPN client (as per the umich site's instructions). Connected and tried to open the link from our post but the page failed to load. Could it just be gameday traffic or is there more I can do?

I was able to load it with out a problem so it isn't the game day traffic.  This gives access to the big ten network  and many other channels. Did you establish a a connection through the built in client? Go to network preferance and double check to see if the Umich connection has the green light.
