Dantonio tells players to "keep their mouths shut" re: Michigan/Bama

Submitted by gebe659 on

I know there's a thread about this silly twitter war, but I figured that Dantonio commenting on it was big enough news.

Direct quotes from today's presser:

"I didn't see much difference when we played Alabama a couple of years ago. Our guys need to keep their mouths shut, especially the ones who aren't playing."

"I'll address that with our football team. I think it was disrespectful. "

"I don't think that's something that we should be doing. The credit goes to the person in the arena. Michigan has a tremendous team."

The first mistake was accidental, but I thought it was pretty clear the second mistake by the other guy was on purpose to make fun of the other.

I wonder how much of his comments have to do with the UM-MSU rivalry. In recent years, MSU has had the upper hand and, arguably, more talent. With graduation, maybe he realizes this year's game is a toss up, if not leaning towards Michigan.

I know Im late to the party, but I just saw this on Sportscenter. I actually think Dantonio was being genuine in his disappointment over the tweets. Im surprised by this as he is usually a smug, arrogant piece of shit. But I gained a wee little bit of respect for him today.

"Is this guy really a QB I'll say my mans @TommyVento16 is a better QB lol," linebacker Denicos Allen tweeted, referencing Michigan State's walk-on quarterback. "S/O to my boy vento by the way."

Added safety Kyle Artinian, "Bama why are you such a bully!? Let them get maybe a yard...."

And when Robinson hooked up with Jeremy Gallon for a 71-yard completion late in the second quarter, running back Nick Hill said, "Even a blind squirrel can get a nut ever once in a while..."

Didn't Hill grow up a big UM fan? Can someone really lose their/there/they're affection for a team that quickly?

Btw, kudos for Dantonio showing some class. If we are going to bash the guy for acting like a douche (which he admittedly has), we need to acknowledge when he demonstrates some class. I think he has a pretty good idea that MSU would have gotten curbstomped about as badly as UM did.

Maybe you're not aware, but that's how about 90% of them become MSU fans, at least the ones on this side of the state.  They grow up loving Michigan, get rejected from Michigan and then vow to hate Michigan with every bone in their body.  That or their parents grew up Michigan fans, got rejected, then vowed to hate Michigan for eternity.  Not saying I blame them, but it is usually how it works.

I'd like to see where you get that ironclad data of yours, because I've hated Michigan since I was just a kid. No one likes an arrogant bully. Now the bully has grown up, and he turned into a deadbeat loser looking back on his glory days of grade school when he ruled the roost on a playground full of first graders. That's about where your football program is at right now.

However, I applied to UM and was accepted, just so I could reject them. I loathe Michigan because of fans like you. Fans that honestly believe that UM is so far superior in every aspect, they look down on fellow human beings for their allegiance to a rival school. It's disgusting, and makes it unsurprising that the rest of the country is constantly revolted at how UM conducts itself.

The upside to getting your ass kicked by Alabama: you've got plenty of (dis)respectable company.  I'm sure Les Miles is calling up Hoke right now and asking for tips on how you get across the 50 yard line.

Dantonio said the right thing this time. That Sandusky comment made (the only one I saw because it was on the front page) was pretty disrespectful and bad. Also kind of amazing they forgot their own blow out not too long ago.

I don't think Dantonio has any class at all, but he is smart enough to know that the twitter posts are great bulletin board material.  I applaud his intellect, but I won't go as far as to call it "class."

How players no one has heard of are the ones blasting Michigan. They don't play, yet somehow they are able to assess the skill level of a team that killed them 18 months ago. I can't wait for Team 133 to put Little Brother back in its place.

Who really cares what any Spartan has to say, positive or negative?  Other than how their Ws and Ls affect us in our division, they are relevant one week in the season.  After that the filter goes back on.

I remember well that Michigan players and coaches were respectful after their loss to Michigan State last year. IIRC, Hoke and Mattison and Denard all said variations of "Football is a tough game." I didn't hear Denard or Lewan complain about the cheap shots they received.

I absolutely refuse to go to any Michigan State blog websites. It just isn't worth the aggrevation. Trolls here are bad enough. I can't imagine why I'd want to subject myself to that by going over there. Reading these twitter statements from clueless and classless football players is only what I expect, and the fans are even worse.

I can't predict the outcome of this year's game against Michigan State, especially if we have more injuries knocking out starters like Countess. Having said that, I truly believe that Hoke and Mattison will do everything in their power to have Michigan take it to MSU and end this horrendous streak. Michigan will let their play on the field do the talking. My hope is that both the OL & DL will have improved and seasoned to the point that they will punish State.

I also hope that Denard's passing to Gardner, Roundtree, and Gallon improves to the point that the field opens up significantly for both Toussaint and Denard.
