Anyone actually rooting for ND this year?

Submitted by marc_from_novi on

As strange as it may be I am actually hoping ND becomes relevant again this year. I wouldn't mind them getting 8 or 9 wins as long as Michigan beats them and has a good year as well.

If we beat them, it looks really good for us if they do well. If we lose, it doesn't matter as much. I won't outright root for the Irish, but I won't mind if they are successful in the other 11 games they play.

Your name is a bit questionable.

I know our in-house ND blogger ("Irish") will be fired up for the domers.

As far as I am concerned, I think "Deal-a-Meal" Weis needs to hang around for a bit and turn into the next John Cooper.

So, provided that we beat the crap out of them year-in and year-out, I really don't care how they do. I would actually like to see them beat USC at some point. Again, prefaced by a huge loss to Meeeeechigan.

That is all.

On the one hand, I kind of hope Weis gets canned. On the other: ND will probably- and perhaps through sheer chance alone- get this "coach search" thing right for a change, and I don't want Michigan locked into a 20-year contract against an Urban Meyer*-led squad.

I would love to see Weis lose to UM most years but do just well enough to not get fired. After all, I need someone to be second to Lane Kiffin on my "coaches who need to leave for the good of the game" list. And Weis does sorta destroy the "holier than thou" image of ND.

Obviously, I hope we run them over. I hope MSU beats them too, as that really seems to get under the skin of the Domers I know. Beyond that, I hope they win just enough that they don't immediately, obviously have to fire Weis, but not enough that they feel good keeping him. I like the situation of ND being torn on either eating his giant contract or keeping him around to eat everything else. Another year of indecision and looming trouble in South bend, that's what I am rooting for.

I root against them every game, EVERY SINGLE GAME, they play. Jealousy over the NBC deal? Maybe. Sick of the preferential treatment they receive when they are anything more than average? Definitely. Disgusted that their fans have the arrogance to be as arrogant as Michigan fans? Quite possibly. Still smarting from their rejection of the Big Ten's sexual advances? Not really.

I know people feel this same way about Ohio State. I don't. For me, it's the Irish. Hate 'em - their skirt-wearing marchers, their gay little leprechaun, their enormous coach who's too slow to get out of the way of players crashing into the sideline, their wanna-be above ground Michigan Stadium, their cesspool college town.

I could go on, but I think I've made my feelings on this painfully clear. This was cathartic. Thanks for listening guys.

I really wish they always suck, well until they fire weis. Im just sick of him eating all the food in ann arbor when I go watch a michigan ND game at the big house.

Not for the entire year, but this season I will actually root for them in one game: MSU. Normally, I don't give a tiny rat's ass about MSU, but I am so sick of all the slobbering over MSU from the media, that I hope ND (and anyone else who plays MSU) trucks the Sparties this year.

Amazingly, MSU has something like a 6 game winning streak against ND in South Bend, so the Irish may be "due" this year.

Not a fucking chance. I get way too many comments from douchebag ND fans who don't care about football at all except when ND plays Michigan because they know I get furious when they say dumb shit if we happen to lose. Always the pseudo-Catholic/25% Irish crowd. Hope ND crashes and burns. Always.

if we beat them i'll be happy

You must be a USC fan... but i can't stand them. I respect them, but I don't like them. When ND plays USC......Go Irish! When they play MSU, a small part of me roots for MSU, but I don't let my family know...

"Hi!, I'm Mark from Novi..."

Oh as to your question...I think I like avoid conflict with that one and pay them little attention. I hope we beat the crap out of them and for our sakes I hope they do well (against State? That's tricky) until next year so we can beat the crap out of them again.

I can't say I don't like/admire them. If I had to go to school all over again and I couldn't go to Michigan, they'd be on my list I'm sure.

Gerry Faust is my favorite ND coach. They should strive to equal, if not surpass his legacy of excellence in South Bend. Only by losses, early and often, can Mr. Weis hope to approach that pinnacle of all that is good and right about ND football.

Maybe its just me but as a fan of the school you "hope becomes relevant again this year", there sure are a lot of posts on the subject and not just this thread or just this board but it makes me lol.

UM is more relevant at 3-9 than the entire little eight with decent records. ND is more relevant for its "subway alums" in the largest media center in the US than anything else. But that is relevance; I'll give you that.

What's really great is that ND will remain relevant no matter how badly they do, and the media will be splashed with "what's wrong with ND" stories until someone (not Weis) rights the ship.

I just hope Urban Meyer enjoys the Florida "scenery" and never gets a Notre Dame bug up his ass. For all of its problems and bungling head coach hires, the school is still a sleeping giant, and if they ever hire the right coach, they could be "Notre Dame" again.

For God's sake, why??? I hope the lose every freaking game. I don't care if Jabba gets canned. Let them hire another coach and I then I'll root against him (or her). I detest OSu and their fans, but I'll still root for them over ND.

I used to root for ND, then I realized that they get a lot of undeserved attention and praise (like BS BCS invites), and I now enjoy every loss.

So yes, I'm rooting for them to lose.

we are in a head-to-head battle with Notre Dame for the best record in college football FOR ALL TIME.

It frosts their collective ass that we took that record, which they view as a birthright, from them.

When we used to say we had the most all time wins, they would counter by saying that they had the best all time winning percentage and that's what really mattered. So we took that from them too.

MICHIGAN #1 in ALL TIME wins. #1 in ALL TIME winning percentage. Keep it rolling.
