OT: NHL CBA Talks have been...stalled...

Gary Bettman has stalled further CBA negoitation at this time. I don't even need to post a link. It's the first thing on nhl.com .... lockout looks like it's going to happen. fucking hate you so much Bettman.

I can't even hate Bettman. He has no power, and is just a puppet for the owner. At least Goodell, Stern, and Selig have some cajones behind them, Bettman is just a walking talking puppet

These meetings have shown zero progress. The owners are not backing down on the revenue sharing plan, and the players under no circumstances will accept it.

Please contract to 18 teams and get rid of the shitty talent. In Jacksonville we have 1 ice rink and that's counting the suburbs. Florida has 2 teams as you all are aware of. Ann Arbor Ice Cube men's league has more fans. I loved playing at the cube. Oh, well I can't sleep and lost my train of thought. Is it 8 soon?

What the heck does the fact that Jacksonville has one rink have to do with the fact Florida has two teams? You're 4+ hours away from either one of them (ie you're not exactly in their local market), so I don't know why you'd expect their to be a relationship having two teams in Florida and the fact that your local hockey situation sucks. It's doing just fine over here in the Tampa Bay area.

Too many teams aren't making money.  The players won't let the league contract because of the loss of jobs.  Athletes have just gotten too greedy and too entitled.  The NHL used to get great press about how "different" they were than athletes in other sports.  Now, they're just as bad as the rest.  

The owners have to lease the stadiums, pay the staff, and pay the front office out of their "half."  Exactly what do players have to do with theirs?  I think we all know the answer to that. Players are not entitled to "half" of anything.

How exactly can the players prevent a failing team from folding? The league has kept Phoenix from moving or folding. The players aren't entitled to half of revenue? No fan in the history of the sport has gone to a game to watch the owner. The players aren't the only reason there is revenue to share. The biggest problem with the NHL is that it tried to compete with the other major sports. There are too many teams in markets that won't support them. Contraction would do the league well. Politics won't allow it though.

maybe now the players will start their own league. it only needs to happen in one sport before ownership completely loses all leverage in every sport.

If someone came to you and said, basically, we're going to take such an amount of your salary in escrow as to equate to a 15 or 20 percent reduction in your pre-tax earnings you'd be pretty angry about it.

The owners didn't sign a great deal (though they themselves imposed it) after the last lockout. Then, they screwed over the weakest teams by signing players to huge back end loaded deals. Then, hat in hand, they went around and begged teams like Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, Vancouver, Edmonton, Detroit, Philadelphia, Boston and New York to essentially subidize their mistakes. 

That league is run like a monkey screwing a football.
