Michigan Commit Henry Poggi on ESPNU
August 26th, 2012 at 7:26 PM ^
I'm just hoping one of these games is competitive for once. Seems every time one team jumps out to a 14-0 lead and the game is basically over by halftime.
August 26th, 2012 at 7:27 PM ^
Let's make a deal. If Poggi has a bad play or two in the 1st quater, let's hold off on saying he sucks until at least the 4th. Deal?
Oh, and Shane Jones is number 8 for Moeller if you want to cheer against someone.
August 26th, 2012 at 7:28 PM ^
Nope, why the heck would I not over react to everything a kid does in his first game of the year.
I will jump off the bandwagon quickly just like I did after Shane's season opening int on friday.
August 26th, 2012 at 7:31 PM ^
He's been getting killed so far...
August 26th, 2012 at 7:33 PM ^
Alright off the bangwagon. Recind the scholly!
August 26th, 2012 at 7:26 PM ^
This Cockerille guy for Gilman isn't to shabby....I can see why his teammates call him "tebow."
Also...wow Gilman doesn't seem to be able to handle the blitz from Moeller right now at all.
August 26th, 2012 at 7:49 PM ^
AND made the final Elite 11 in addition to the invite. Hes a big boy, even without pads.
August 27th, 2012 at 5:39 AM ^
Michigan offered Cockerille...as a safety.
August 26th, 2012 at 7:29 PM ^
Poggi needs to get more aggressive.. Also, Gilman QB is a beast.. He needs to quit throwing the ball and run up the middle.Reminds me of high school Tebow
August 26th, 2012 at 7:37 PM ^
Is he the next Tebow or is it that Stanton kid from RSM?
August 26th, 2012 at 10:08 PM ^
Stanton throws the ball too well.
August 26th, 2012 at 7:31 PM ^
In Poggi's defense....Moeller hasn't even bothered to attempt to run up the middle and seeing as how the Gildman CB's are giving huge cushions, I see no reason for Moeller not to do anything more than through little 5 or 7 yd comebacks every time.
August 26th, 2012 at 7:33 PM ^
I miss when Michigan State used to do that crap against Michigan, and we'd just snap the ball and flick it out to Steve Breaston every third play.
August 26th, 2012 at 7:35 PM ^
What was the O line doing on that last play? Did the QB abort a screen pass?
August 26th, 2012 at 7:39 PM ^
This is gonna be fun. When Poggi is out there as an H-back, Shane Jones is the SAM backer lined up over him. Probably going to see some one-on-ones throughout the game. Poggi just laid a good block on him.
August 26th, 2012 at 7:46 PM ^
How many plays has he played on offense so far?
August 26th, 2012 at 7:48 PM ^
I've seen him a few times. Not a ton though. Only used him as a blocker so far and hasn't seen the ball yet.
August 26th, 2012 at 7:49 PM ^
Poggi appears to be eating up the one on one blocking. When they run at him, it seems they are doubleteaming him...looks good IMO
August 26th, 2012 at 7:51 PM ^
Poggi just pancaked Shane Jones. Yep, this could be run to watch.
August 26th, 2012 at 7:57 PM ^
It seems likey they are doubling him on most plays. He got really good push when he wasn't doubled team though.
August 26th, 2012 at 7:50 PM ^
Seriously? We're going to compare Tim Tebow to Cockerille?
August 26th, 2012 at 7:52 PM ^
both are running qbs who are below average throwers
August 26th, 2012 at 7:53 PM ^
This Moeller team is just showing more energy than this Gilman team right now.
August 26th, 2012 at 7:54 PM ^
Does Poggi have any emotion?? Gilman makes mistake after mistake.. The punter even messed up.. Might get ugly.
August 26th, 2012 at 7:57 PM ^
dude is on the field constantly...doesn't have enough energy to show emotion...except after that fumble...wow
August 26th, 2012 at 7:57 PM ^
Jesus Christ. Really?
August 26th, 2012 at 7:57 PM ^
Shane Jones with a fumble recovery!
*waits for this comment to get moderated as trolling*
August 26th, 2012 at 7:59 PM ^
Wow, that was a fantastic TD catch. Even if they were covering the guy, wouldn't have helped.
August 26th, 2012 at 8:00 PM ^
That was the backup QB making the catch too
August 27th, 2012 at 8:08 AM ^
making many great TD catches!
August 26th, 2012 at 8:00 PM ^
To the earlier poster's point, this is looking like another one of those lopsided high school games on ESPN 3. The only game I've watched that wasn't really one sided was the Joliet Catholic vs. Providence Catholic one.
Man, Gilman just looks lethargic as hell, like they don't even want to be there. That many penalties is inexcusable. They are playing like shit, but it seems that they have a lot of the phsyical ability to play with Moeller. They have just been killing themselves.
August 26th, 2012 at 8:02 PM ^
Not easy for high school kids to travel 500 miles and go play football at a high level, especially against a top football school like Moeller is
August 26th, 2012 at 8:04 PM ^
Yeah, you can't give the ball to Moeller twice inside the 20 and expect to win against a team like that. Just doesn't seem like they have the horses, especially offensively.
August 26th, 2012 at 8:10 PM ^
Maybe if they had the nationally ranked teams play each other instead of having a ranked vs. unranked team each time, things would be a bit better. For that matter, two unranked teams evenly matched would be way more entertaining than watching one team completely outclass another.
August 26th, 2012 at 8:57 PM ^
To the above posts, it's not really like there is a massive talent gap though. The announcers mentioned that Gilman essentially has a potential D1 prospect playing every position (probably exaggeration). I don't think the problem is that they are compeltely phsyically outclassed; it's more that they are just playing very soft.
For what its worth, the games that have been ranked vs. ranked have also been fairly lopsided, as far as I've seen.
August 26th, 2012 at 8:03 PM ^
Gilman cant seem to figure out the all out read and react D from Moeller. The Gilman OLine looks completely lost on every single play. I really dont think they have any idea who to block.
August 26th, 2012 at 8:03 PM ^
cockerille doesn't do it for me...if u are a top prospect, you should be able to move the ball SOME
August 26th, 2012 at 8:10 PM ^
His OLine is completely confused on who to block...not much when they can do when they fire out of their stance and have to take 2 steps to even contact anyone.
and again, wow can the Gilman DB's are like 15 yds off giving up easy 8yd completions every time.
August 26th, 2012 at 8:10 PM ^
nice penatration and tackle by Poggi on 3rd and short!
August 26th, 2012 at 8:12 PM ^
Another note....how come none of these ohio teams NEVER leave the state for all these state vs state games?
August 26th, 2012 at 8:44 PM ^
Parole violation?
August 26th, 2012 at 8:55 PM ^
Zing!
Wait... where do all of our players come from? Damn it.....
August 26th, 2012 at 9:02 PM ^
We get the ones not on parole.
August 26th, 2012 at 9:18 PM ^
Q: If you have a car containing a Buckeye receiver, offensive lineman, and linebacker, who is driving the car?
A: A cop.
Not throwing stones in a glass house -- just making a joke.
August 26th, 2012 at 9:49 PM ^
RCMB if that's your game. It's not welcome here.
August 26th, 2012 at 11:42 PM ^
They're only allowed to leave the state if there's no missed school time--Moeller's kids would have to be on the plane immediately after the game and ready to be at school on short sleep at 8 tormorrow. A weekday game would be impossible.
There's budgetary issues too--a school like Trotwood doesn't have the budget to charter a flight to Florida and book rooms for the entire football team. You'll notice that most of the schools that have traveled this weekend have been prep schools with, I suspect, pretty expansive athletic budgets.
A football team may travel out of state to compete in contests (scrimmages, previews and games) in states that are contiguous to Ohio regardless of stance to travel. The states include Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. The Canadian province includes Ontario. Additionally, a football team may travel to a non-contiguous state or province one time per interscholastic season provided there is no loss of school time.
(Bylaw 9-2-1).
I'm not sure when this changed; when I was in school that last sentence wasn't there and we were only allowed to travel to neighboring states. (OK, that was 35 years ago....)
August 27th, 2012 at 12:07 AM ^
Moeller is coming to Michigan to play CC the weekend after the next. Brother Rice is going to play Moeller next weekend
August 27th, 2012 at 8:19 AM ^
It's in the blockquote but I should have mentioned it--travel to neighboring states has always been allowed. Moeller can get to Detroit by bus with no problem--it's no farther than driving to Akron. It's the junkets to places like Texas and California they're trying to control.
August 26th, 2012 at 8:45 PM ^
Nice read on the screen by Poggi. Too bad the throw was high. The RB got destroyed by Poggi.
August 26th, 2012 at 8:59 PM ^
Perhaps I was mistaken, but I believe I just saw Poggi break off his pass rush and cover the RB leaking out of the backfield. What defense has their DT cover an RB?
