Hopefully he will move back to D-Line. We have what sounds like a pretty even match between most of the redshirt freshman on the o-line, so he should move to help rectify the scary depth on the d-line.

I'd feel bad for Ferrara if he had to go back to D-line. Moving is tough, moving twice is tougher (but it wouldn't be as bad since he'd be going from A to B to A instead of A to B to C).

Hopefully if he does get moved, it's because Barnum has found a way to stay healthy and is as good as we all hope he is.

I have no inside information, just a knack for wild-if-not-logically-drawn conjecture. Consequently, my epinions suggest that Ferrara is both (1) a stand-up guy that is most interested in using his talents to better his team, by [almost] any means necessary and (2) unlikely to find as much playing time at OG as he might at DT.

I predict a switch. And I hope it's Ferrara's decision.

1. Stay at offensive guard and battle for a starting job next year after Moosman graduates. (Remember, Ricky Barnum has Carlos Brown Disease and can't stay healthy.)

2. Switch back to defensive tackle and battle for third or fourth string. Martin and Sagesse are pretty well established, Van Bergen has been playing DT, Banks has been playing defense his entire career, and Will Campbell is the Second Coming. None of those players will graduate this year and, thus, the battle will be just as hard in 2010, Ferrara's final season.

If it were up to Ferrara, the choice seems pretty easy. He's battling for a starting job on offense and battling just to sniff the field on defense.

He got a lot of playing time against Purdue...and then disappeared.

Again, there's only ONE defensive tackle on the field in Robinson's base defense. So fine. Mike Martin needs a rest? Let's put in Sagesse. Oops...Sagesse got injured. Let's put Martin back in. Okay, Martin needs another rest? Hmmmm...should we put in Will Campbell or Ferrara? We'll give one of them a couple plays and then put Martin back in.

Ergo, Martin would be fighting to sniff the field. He wouldn't be the first guy on the field, nor the second. He might not even be the third. You don't rotate four guys in for one position. That's equal to being 16-deep on the defensive line. Even Miami wasn't that good when they had all those nasty defensive linemen.

Schofield, yes. Washington, probably. Barnum, maybe.

Barnum has Carlos Brown Disease, and I think there's a lot to be said for experience. If Ferrara's a fifth year senior, he might earn the nod over a redshirt sophomore. Either way, he'd have a fighting chance, whereas I don't think he'd have a chance of being any higher than third on the depth chart on defense.

And yes, I did mean Ferrara. Thanks for the catch.
