OT: Russell Wilson to start Friday

Wilson will take the majority of first-team reps as the Seahawks prepare for the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday night. Carroll plans to play Wilson with the Seahawks' starters through at least the first half. It is possible Flynn could get some first-team reps to start the second half, depending on the flow of the game.

I know this doesn't mean he will be the starter come week one, but it is a surprising move.

Tavaris Jackson played decent last year but you can't fault them for brining in Matt Flynn because of his "upside."  Then after paying Flynn a ridiculous amount of money they drafted a QB high in the draft and are now looking to start him.  Pete Carroll hasn't lost his NFL touch.

Flynn wasn't paid a ridiculous amount of money. He signed a 3 year, $19.5 million contract.  That's not particularly high for a starting QB, but I think less than half of that is guaranteed. He's only owed $2 million for this season.

Ask Arizona if Carroll is doing it right. They did the same thing, signing the hot backup (Kolb) but threw tons of money at him.  Carroll signed Flynn to a manageable contract and then had him compete for the job.  If he sucks and he doesn't pan out, it's okay.  Flynn's contract is easily swallowable by Seattle. Kolb's is not.  A good calculated risk by Pete.

I think he's a really smart guy.  They say his height could be a problem in the league, but I think he might just be clever enough to fit himself into an NFL offense & figure out how to operate it successfully.  It's what he did in his one season in Madison, & I was definitely impressed.  He has the chillest of zen under pressure, his throwing looks good, & it's pretty clear that he can run when he has to.

I'll give "kudos" to Wilson, but even more "kudos" to the loophole that allowed a team with one of the best offensive lines in the country to rent an NFL-ready quarterback for a year, while competing with teams who were developing their own quarterbacks.

Rats, I fear I traded too much away in the offseaon to get Flynn in my fantasy football league.  I'm really counting on him playing like he did in that game against Detroit last December.

Flynn needs to thank the Detroit defensive unit for his hefty contract in Seattle.    I think his 480 yard performance against Detroit undoubtedly helped his contract negotations.   And I don't think anyone would've expected Flynn to be #2 on the depth chart this preseason...or for Seattle to have even drafted a QB in the first few NFL draft rounds.   Sorry to hear your fantasy season may ride on a potentially benched Flynn.  Wilson may struggle against the #1 opposition defense this week, though, so you may still ride Flynn to fantasy glory this year.  I'm sure Carroll wants to make sure Wilson can handle the pressure of facing starting-caliber defenses before jumping to any hasty decisions.

From what i saw he was accurate and had a decent to strong arm. And dont know why he wasnt considered a late first round pick. I would have rather had him over Weeden. Seattle may have found their future QB.

This is not remotely surprising. If Wilson were just a little bit bigger, I think he would have been picked up before the end of the first round. He maybe could have traded spots with Tannehill or Weeden. That and his football IQ seems to be very high. He came into Wisconsin and essentially mastered a new offense within a month, also becoming a team captain to guys he barely knew.

This is just a way for Carroll to keep pressure on Flynn so he is motivated to play at his highest level. I'm a huge gb fan and I'll tell you the guy has all the tools necessary to be a francise qb in the league if surrounded with a reasonable amount of talent to work with. Not taking anything away from Russell but he hasn't played a single down in a real NFL game yet. He still has a long way to go before any reasonable coach would consider starting him unless he were the only option.

If Flynn loses his job to a rookie, the Lions look even worse since he was a world destroyer against our secondary.

Stafford and Calvin are awesome, but Schwartz and Mayhew are doing a really crappy job building the rest of the team.

As a resident of western Washington I do my best to care about the Seahawks (I don't always succeed). I've watched every Seahawks preseason game and Wilson has looked real good. But I'll be surprised if Flynn isn't the starter once the season starts.

They also signed TO and Braylon, and neither of those guys are getting a ton of balls thrown their way. As much as Braylon's big mouth irritates me, I would like to see him get his game back on track.
