At least he kept it real.

I know it was a boneheaded move but i really hope that things work out for Burress. Hopefully this can be a life changing event for him and he comes out of it a better man than when he went in.

crazy. Two years for shooting yourself in New York. Stallworth gets 30 days for killing someone while driving drunk and high in Miami.
Miami must be a scary f--kin place.

NYC has a minimum sentence for handguns, which I believe is 2 years. It's at least good to see that there wasn't any leniency just because he plays football.
Stallworth was over the legal limit, but the guy he killed ran in front of his car. There is a video from a traffic camera showing the incident. It's sealed by the courts, but I imagine that it was pretty helpful to his case. Am I condoning drunk driving? Absolutely not, he shouldn't have been driving at all.
He also has 2 years house arrest, 6 years probation and like 10,000 hours of community service, so it wasn't just a 30 day jail stint as punishment.

He also settled out of court with the family, not that he's hurting for cash.

In light of Mike Vick's recent return to the NFL, does anyone think Burress can come back from this and play in the NFL again? Sure, he probably won't serve the full time, but he will be away from football for a decent amount of time.

He is 32 now. He is done playing in the NFL.

Does he have any eligibility left at MSU? I'm sure Dantonio would let him play.

Hey what are you in for?

If only this were Herschel Walker...

Didn't Burress turn down some sweet plea deal like 6 months ago (like only having to serve 30 days in jail)? Not sure if that is true, but i thought I remembered something like that. Also, Stallworth's attorney should get the World's Greatest Lawyer award for the job he did.

still involved over a year in prison. The DA was all over this one.

Hopefully he'll get something out of this besides getting buggered. I wonder how much actual time he'll have to serve. Seriously, I do feel bad for him and wish him the best when he's done serving his sentence. Another colossal waste of talent at the WR position in the NFL.

Two years in prison for being an idiot and shooting yourself?
Find better legal representation, Plax.

Thats what I said until someone I know from New York explained to me that an illegal weapons possession charge carries a three year sentence. 3 years minimum. So I guess he did get off light. He should have taken those firearm safety courses and maybe he would have shot just the floor. I don't know about some of these pro athletes. GOD BLESS!

I have to say that what he did was pretty dumb. At the same time though I hope when he gets out he has learned his lesson and is a better person. I imagine with his age he is all but done in the NFL now.
