OT-Patrick Kane Incident

Submitted by Adrian on

This is not really new news but looking at the first 20 pages on the board I didnt see anything about it so I wanted to see everyones opinion of the whole Kane beating up a taxi driver for 20 cents. He pleaded not guilty. Personally I would like to see this guy get charged. He could be facing up to a year in prison if charged. What do you guys think?

If this was the NFL, it would be the headline news on SportsCenter for weeks, and the analysts would be calling for suspensions...

I am not sure about the severity of the cab driver's injuries, but I think he should be suspended for at least half the season. This is going to sound pretty corny, but athletes are the role models of America's youth, and with fame comes responsibility. They should be held accountable for their actions.

I'm just going to guess his salary. Let's say it's a million (since hockey players are the most underpaid athletes). He beat the shit out of a cab driver over a few measly dollars?

To me that is bordering on Psychotic behavior, why would you throw your career away for something so frivolous and stupid (maybe not throw his career away but put a black eye over himself and his character).

There is a lot of talk that this cab driver has pulled stunts like this before. And by stunts, I mean locking people in the cab, where they have no way to get out. Supposedly, Kane's cousin wanted to get out of the cab so he could stand up to get his wallet out and the cabbie wouldn't unlock the doors. things went badly from there.

I figured there was another story to this topic thats why i started it. I figured someone would have some information that would clear up why he did it. But still does that justify everything. The driver doesnt let you out so you punch him in the face? Well if thats true the cab driver sure learned his lesson

No offense to most cabbies, as I've had some cool ones, especially around AA, but a lot of them pull some pretty shady shit. Especially at night when they know people have been drinking.

One dude drove my gf around pretending to be lost, then when they finally got there she wanted to pay less. Guess what? He didn't have any change. Shocking!

I obviously don't know what happened, but this guy doing something shitty is NOT out of the question.

He had his laptop in the passenger seat and was looking at stock quotes while waiting. Even told me and my roommate how AXL had a double yesterday (I thought about buying on the open but didn't) and it went up another 50% or so.

We thought it was funny. But yes most cabbies suck especially the ones who don't speak english, don't know where they are going, and to top it off talk on the phone the whole time. Yeah those cabbies suck.

"An Erie County, N.Y., grand jury has dismissed the felony robbery charge against Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane and his cousin James, but both have been indicted on lesser charges."

Some more discussion here, you probably would have had to search for it to find it.

They dropped the felony and only kept the misdemeanors, so I doubt he gets any timein jail. The guy is just an idiot and I have not liked him since the days he was at the NTDP. He is a very skilled player, but a big time 'pussy'.

Do you get the feeling that athletes sometimes get preferential treatment? I bet if any other guy did that they would get the felony. I agree with you I dont like him or Crosby. Both of them act as if they own the NHL. If this guy does jail time we have an even better chance of beating chicago again in the playoffs.

Any other random joe blow on the street would've served time for this. There's no reason Kane shouldn't serve as well. I'd say the same if this were an athlete on a team I was a fan of, as well. Preferential treatment is nothing but polished discrimination.
