I love listening to Mattison. He may sound pretty down on the defense, but that's just because his idea of a good defense is waaaay higher than other peoples ideas, lol. Season can't get here soon enough for me
August 14th, 2012 at 6:32 PM ^
I wouldn't be too worried. Read a fall camp presser from last year: http://mgoblog.com/content/fall-camp-2011-presser-notes-8-25 Seems to be similar speach, and like said above, expectations are really high...
"Where we are? I don't know ... I see times out there when we're approaching a Michigan defense. And then I don't see it enough times. We gotta see it on a more consistent basis."
And we all know how last year turned out
August 14th, 2012 at 6:36 PM ^
Also, you can really tell that Mattison thinks Jake Ryan is going to be something special.
August 14th, 2012 at 7:36 PM ^
Yeah, at first I thought this was going to be a post from THE_KNOWLEDGE.
August 14th, 2012 at 8:04 PM ^
For those who followed Bobby Carpenter's career at OSU...it was a good one. He was overshadowed by AJ Hawk, but he was a beast for the Buckeyes. Starting off at just LB, then playing 75% LB/25% WDE, then he was 50/50 his senior year.
I see Ryan doing the exact same thing. I also see him being a mid-late round draft pick who hangs around the NFL like Carpenter has.
And if we're looking for our own version of AJ Hawk, look no further than Joe Bolden. In 2 years Bolden and Ryan will make up a duo like we haven't seen since the early 00's at LB.
August 14th, 2012 at 8:08 PM ^
I agree with that - with either James Ross or Desmond Morgan manning the third spot. They will be a force. The next wave of McCray - Ferms - Gedeon will be equally dominant.
August 14th, 2012 at 8:32 PM ^
My main memory of him is Jake Long snapping his ankle to start The Game in 05 after he dared line up across him in a 3 point stance. He was crying on the sidelines because he had to miss out on the rest of it. Always respected that.

MGoBlue.com is not IPad friendly.
August 14th, 2012 at 6:55 PM ^
Kinda sucks. My wife has our laptop and my daughter is using the desktop pc.
August 14th, 2012 at 6:56 PM ^
The no flash thing really sucks. I need to do my fantasy draft, and I just realized I can't do it on the ipad (and I'll be somewhere without wireless access).
August 14th, 2012 at 7:25 PM ^
Thank god adobe isn't supporting flash after the latest release
August 14th, 2012 at 7:28 PM ^
You could always use Photon Flash or Puffin (has a free version).
August 14th, 2012 at 6:58 PM ^
Heard we had a freshmen tear his acl today.
August 14th, 2012 at 7:03 PM ^
Don't just say that unless it's confirmed and you can say who. Otherwise you're just being an asshole.
August 14th, 2012 at 7:20 PM ^
It has been confirmed on other sites but Brady wont announce it until tomorrow. Sorry to bring information with substance dumbass. I was only trying to pass along info that this board seems to always be a day behind on.
August 14th, 2012 at 7:22 PM ^
But coming on and saying "someone got hurt" is really not bringing information with substance, is it? If you have real info, by all means pass it along, but as it stands your info is useless.
August 14th, 2012 at 7:32 PM ^
Semi-reliable source (media):
August 14th, 2012 at 7:34 PM ^
Yes, that's different. And that really blows.
August 14th, 2012 at 7:33 PM ^
It is when there are no reports on your board and it is all over several others. I didn't know who it was, himce the reason I wasn't an asshole by speculating. Congrats, the gang mentality on here wins again, just like the rich rod days.
August 14th, 2012 at 7:36 PM ^
I'm not sure why I'm bothering here, but there's no gang mentality, and this has nothing to do with the subject matter of your posts. It has everything to do with you making a teaser post, and then following it up by ripping on the board you're currently posting on.
August 14th, 2012 at 7:24 PM ^
So you mind filling the slow board in on the info?
August 14th, 2012 at 7:24 PM ^
Based on this post, I'm guessing that your lack of tact is why you have so few points.
August 14th, 2012 at 7:28 PM ^
It is confirmed...think nw Ohio kid.
I have few points because I chimed in on a rich rod conversation or two, simply stated something factual which most can't seem to be able to handle.
I don't ally take offense on a board that is more entertainment then actual football substance. The resident expert here is a middle school football coach.
August 14th, 2012 at 7:33 PM ^
Since our board suxors so much, you should probably stay over on your awesomer board instead. Why come to this site only to bitch about how your other ones are so much better?
EDIT: And it doesn't make you cool, in any setting, to say "I have big news but I can't tell you." It really just makes you look like an asshole, but I said that already.
Based on your hint though, it's either Gant or Wormley. I'm hoping for Gant, only because he was likely to redshirt this year anyway.
August 14th, 2012 at 7:36 PM ^
It doesn't make you cool to call someone an asshole for offering information your board doesn't have. I didn't know exactly who it was, so I didn't say for that reason, othwise I would have been a true asshole. I had news but I was trying to make sure I knew who it was first.
Love Internet tough guys.
August 14th, 2012 at 7:38 PM ^
If you don't have the whole story, don't say anything. Wait until somebody who has the whole story posts it, or wait until you do. It's etiquette.
August 14th, 2012 at 7:42 PM ^
Yes real journalism lives here, where people call others assholes for passing on information that was true. I wasn't teasing anything, just informing people to get ready to be disappointed. Etiquette on a blog, eal oxymoron there.
August 14th, 2012 at 7:46 PM ^
In all fairness, I said you look like an asshole when you make a post like that. One can do asshole things without actually being an asshole. And this coming from the guy who called me a dumbass, not much different.
Yes, we like using etiquette on this blog. Grammar is nice, too, so maybe you should head back to your other boards.
August 14th, 2012 at 7:52 PM ^
I love the grammar police coming out on such an educated and scholarly site full of scholarly articles citing sources and full reference pages.
August 14th, 2012 at 8:02 PM ^
Hi Mr. Rager.
August 14th, 2012 at 8:19 PM ^
That's a horrible statement to make. Obviously by now you know that it is Wormley, but regardless of who it is, that's a terrible thing to say. Hate to burst your bubble, but Gant will not redshirt this year.
August 14th, 2012 at 8:35 PM ^
Yes, I now know, but I don't think it's terrible at all. If I know a guy is injured but I don't know who, it's not bad for me to hope that it's a less-needed player. Not to knock Gant, but he plays a position where we have two established upperclassmen starters, two experienced guys behind them, and a fifth guy who enrolled early (and was very highly rated as well).
Wormley plays a position that rotates a lot more, and only has one guy ahead of him with any substantial PT. My statement was purely based on the situation at their respective positions, not on the players themselves.
August 14th, 2012 at 7:32 PM ^
I would love to see a link of those informative posts. Something tells me that your "something factual" was said in a poopy manner and was offensive.
August 14th, 2012 at 7:39 PM ^
I worked for scout and n college athletics, so when I said anything factual it was met with a group mob of I am a"hater". I worked against rich and knew hi, while at Marshall university.
Not that any of it really matters, and your "poopy" reference is hilarious. This board thrives on insults.
August 14th, 2012 at 7:43 PM ^
You worked for RR's rival, which is why you ripped on him. You worked for Scout, which is why you rip on this board. Now it all makes sense. You aren't a hater, you're just inherently biased.
August 14th, 2012 at 7:47 PM ^
Actually, not that it matters, I was quite supportive of rich the coach, but not rich the person. The other is accurate.
August 14th, 2012 at 11:03 PM ^
Wish there were more people willing to speak up without getting shouted down. Keep it up panthers5 I appreciated what you contributed to this thread.....of course you won't be able to read this because I have been banned for being critical of the blog.
August 14th, 2012 at 6:58 PM ^
Yeah every player mentioned gets the standard Mattison reply about consistency, until, Jake Ryan is brought up, then, superlatives start to fly from the normally staid Coach Mattison.
August 14th, 2012 at 9:13 PM ^
wolvin and panthers ur argument is awesome. quite entertaining..but im a simple person with a simple mind
August 14th, 2012 at 10:36 PM ^
a poster with -80.
August 14th, 2012 at 11:17 PM ^
Who determines the winner?
August 15th, 2012 at 12:21 AM ^
Julia Child because it's her 100th Birthday!
August 14th, 2012 at 9:41 PM ^
Mattison's presser was very interesting - he drove the "consistency" message very hard, but it seems like he is almost trying to set the bar for the defense within the framework of the presser, which is an interesting way to do it, if indeed that was the intent. As someone pointed out, he might sound down on them, but like many good coaches and coordinators, they know what the "goal state" or "aspiration" is and are simply trying to coach up kids so they can get closer to that each day.
Borges mentioned Kalis being in the rotation potentially at tackle, which is high praise for him, I would think. He also mentioned that he needs to be coached up some, but he is a freshman and that wouldn't be uncommon. It's just great to hear that we've been recruiting players in this system that can possibly contribute sooner rather than later. It was also good to hear that Hopkins is buying into the fullback position, as I believe he was initially reluctant by some accounts.
August 15th, 2012 at 9:06 AM ^
It as Kalis was in the running for the LG position, not tackle....many on here said he we would play RT eventually...I guessed by the opener of B1G, Kali's would be starting LG.
August 15th, 2012 at 9:21 AM ^
can we PLEASE have a few more mics in the press area? I and others have asked this repeatedly but no progress. I can't hear 80% of the damn questions.
