I love listening to Mattison. He may sound pretty down on the defense, but that's just because his idea of a good defense is waaaay higher than other peoples ideas, lol. Season can't get here soon enough for me

I wouldn't be too worried. Read a fall camp presser from last year: http://mgoblog.com/content/fall-camp-2011-presser-notes-8-25 Seems to be similar speach, and like said above, expectations are really high...

"Where we are? I don't know ... I see times out there when we're approaching a Michigan defense. And then I don't see it enough times. We gotta see it on a more consistent basis."

And we all know how last year turned out

For those who followed Bobby Carpenter's career at OSU...it was a good one. He was overshadowed by AJ Hawk, but he was a beast for the Buckeyes. Starting off at just LB, then playing 75% LB/25% WDE, then he was 50/50 his senior year.

I see Ryan doing the exact same thing. I also see him being a mid-late round draft pick who hangs around the NFL like Carpenter has.

And if we're looking for our own version of AJ Hawk, look no further than Joe Bolden. In 2 years Bolden and Ryan will make up a duo like we haven't seen since the early 00's at LB.

My main memory of him is Jake Long snapping his ankle to start The Game in 05 after he dared line up across him in a 3 point stance. He was crying on the sidelines because he had to miss out on the rest of it. Always respected that.

I'm not sure why I'm bothering here, but there's no gang mentality, and this has nothing to do with the subject matter of your posts.  It has everything to do with you making a teaser post, and then following it up by ripping on the board you're currently posting on.

It is confirmed...think nw Ohio kid.

I have few points because I chimed in on a rich rod conversation or two, simply stated something factual which most can't seem to be able to handle.

I don't ally take offense on a board that is more entertainment then actual football substance. The resident expert here is a middle school football coach.

Since our board suxors so much, you should probably stay over on your awesomer board instead.  Why come to this site only to bitch about how your other ones are so much better?

EDIT:  And it doesn't make you cool, in any setting, to say "I have big news but I can't tell you."  It really just makes you look like an asshole, but I said that already.

Based on your hint though, it's either Gant or Wormley.  I'm hoping for Gant, only because he was likely to redshirt this year anyway.

It doesn't make you cool to call someone an asshole for offering information your board doesn't have. I didn't know exactly who it was, so I didn't say for that reason, othwise I would have been a true asshole. I had news but I was trying to make sure I knew who it was first.

Love Internet tough guys.

In all fairness, I said you look like an asshole when you make a post like that.  One can do asshole things without actually being an asshole.  And this coming from the guy who called me a dumbass, not much different.

Yes, we like using etiquette on this blog.  Grammar is nice, too, so maybe you should head back to your other boards.

Yes, I now know, but I don't think it's terrible at all.  If I know a guy is injured but I don't know who, it's not bad for me to hope that it's a less-needed player.  Not to knock Gant, but he plays a position where we have two established upperclassmen starters, two experienced guys behind them, and a fifth guy who enrolled early (and was very highly rated as well).

Wormley plays a position that rotates a lot more, and only has one guy ahead of him with any substantial PT.  My statement was purely based on the situation at their respective positions, not on the players themselves.

I worked for scout and n college athletics, so when I said anything factual it was met with a group mob of I am a"hater". I worked against rich and knew hi, while at Marshall university.

Not that any of it really matters, and your "poopy" reference is hilarious. This board thrives on insults.

Yeah every player mentioned gets the standard Mattison reply about consistency, until, Jake Ryan is brought up, then, superlatives start to fly from the normally staid Coach Mattison.

Mattison's presser was very interesting - he drove the "consistency" message very hard, but it seems like he is almost trying to set the bar for the defense within the framework of the presser, which is an interesting way to do it, if indeed that was the intent. As someone pointed out, he might sound down on them, but like many good coaches and coordinators, they know what the "goal state" or "aspiration" is and are simply trying to coach up kids so they can get closer to that each day.

Borges mentioned Kalis being in the rotation potentially at tackle, which is high praise for him, I would think. He also mentioned that he needs to be coached up some, but he is a freshman and  that wouldn't be uncommon. It's just great to hear that we've been recruiting players in this system that can possibly contribute sooner rather than later. It was also good to hear that Hopkins is buying into the fullback position, as I believe he was initially reluctant by some accounts.

can we PLEASE have a few more mics in the press area?  I and others have asked this repeatedly but no progress.  I can't hear 80% of the damn questions.
