Favre you a**hole
Alright I'm a little off topic with this one but I want to sound off and get others opinions on this.
I'm a life-long Packers fan and grew up with Brett Favre as my hero. He was my role model for sports - playing with passion, for the love of the game, never quitting unless you had a leg cut off, and leaving it on the field no matter what.
Then all this happened. When the drama with the Packers happened last year I felt kind of bad for Favre but completely agreed with the Packers. Part of me died inside - it was as if my childhood love of sports was partially torn away. Here's a brief rundown of that drama:
One little note to all this is that most people may not realize that, during Favre's years in Green Bay (especially the earlier ones), the Vikings along with the Cowboys were far and away the biggest rivals. There are many great teams and great games between these teams. Seeing Favre in purple is almost as if Lloyd Carr wore a sweater vest.
I know most of Michigan nation doesn't care about either of these teams, but I'm sure people have opinions about all this. Sound off. I'm personally pissed, somewhat heartbroken, and feel like my childhood hero just exposed himself for what he really is.
Just hope the Pack can beat the Vikings (but that'll be tough thanks to Adrian Peterson and the Vikes #1 defense).

- Packers had Aaron Rodgers that they had to either get trade or start.
- The Pack told Favre to decide before the draft (where they drafted 2 other backup qb's cause he retired).
- They then gave him another chance a month before camp to come back. If he came back they had to trade Rodgers, if not they had to change their schemes to accommodate his skill set. Favre deep down wanted to go to Minnesota (hence the tampering charges later) and said no thanks to the Pack.
- Right before camp started Favre said he wanted to be unconditionally released so he could go to the Vikings. Pack said dream on. He then said he wanted to come back to the Pack and the team said "well we have another qb you can compete with" which was obvious posturing but take it for what it's worth.
- After all the ensuing drama they said "go to the Jets". Meanwhile Aaron Rodgers did quite well (but the Packers went 6-10 due mostly to injuries on Defense) and the Jets did what they did.

Didn't the Bears have a pretty terrible record against Favre?
I think they only won a very few games at Lambeau and didn't dominate enough at home in order to get near a .500 record.

It seems to me like it is a common occurence for fans of the dominating team to not view a rivalry as important as the losing team.
Ask Steelers fans about the Browns and it's not a big deal but the Browns fans think it's the biggest rivalry.
A Wisconsin fan who started watching the Packers in 1992 would see Favre compile a record of 22-10 against the Bears through 2004. He would then go 1-5 for a final record of 23-15.
However Favre was 2-9 (I couldn't find a good head-to-head listing like the Stassen database for the NCAA so this might be wrong) against the Cowboys. This further feeds into my idea that a Packers fan would view the Cowboys as a bigger rival than the Bears.
I don't want to start bringing NCAA teams into the comparison for two reasons. One, it seems to me like rivalries are more passionate in college than the pros. Two, I don't want to compare the Bears to some of the examples that I can think of.

The fact that you can name two rivals (without mentioning the Bears) makes the Carr sweatervest comparison inappropriate. Sparty is not so much a rival as an annoyance who squeaks out a win every ten years leaving me with only one opponent upon which to focus my laser beam of hate.

Also, there is no "Michigan Nation." We're not the Red Sox or the Third Reich.

This is worse because the Packers are in direct competition with the Vikes. A more appropriate comparison would be Chelios to the Wings or Ben Wallace to the Bulls.

it seems that his legacy has turned from 3 time MVP, SB winner and excellent QB too...
pouting...indecisive aging veteran who thinks he is worth more than what he is at this stage... manipulating the system to get what he wants...not a team player and throwing just as many picks as TDs...most of them in bad situations.
That pretty much is how people think of Favre these days.

when i say WHO CARES!
not to be insulting to you or your childhood idol, but at this point i feel that that is the consensus feeling towards Favre. He was undeniably one of the best qbs and his starting streak is untouchable, but currently he is just an average quarterback. he will not make a big difference for any team he plays for and thus is a non-story to me.
as far as his legacy goes, it's the same to me as when montana played for the chiefs. it happened, but i dont really think of it when i think of his career or greatness.

he is revealed as a completely ordinary QB. He had a bittersweet HOF complimenting swan song, narrowly missing a last shot in 2007. He pissed all over that storyline last year. He is bringing other bodily functions to bear on his "legacy" with this latest manufactured drama and overstayed welcome.
Ultimately, two things will make me happy a 3:1 turnover to completed pass ratio and suckage so epic that people stop saying "future hall of famer" in front of his name, or a 19-0 season, capped with a 7 TD win over the Bills.

If Farve wants to play, his choice. Fans whining are not relevant.
If an NFL team thinks Farve gives them a better chance to win, go for it. That's the purpose of the NFL.
It's not like he's looking old and unable to compete.

favre's just a flat out liar. two weeks ago he said he was indefinitely retired in a press release. now he signs with the viQueens. to me he's just a pansy who didnt want to participate in training camp.
and the bears have dominated him in the lovie smith era, but not so much in the era of mediocrity that was dave wannstedt.
