Garage Sale Open Thread

It's about 4:50am and we've already got a good line going. We've got people in tents, tailgate buses with generators, and poor schmucks like me with a bag to sit on. How is everyone else doing this fine, rainy morning?

I'm seriously considering throwing some junk from my basement in the driveway so that I can contribute to this thread. I'll keep you guys up to date with what happens with my half set of golf clubs and my moldy collection of Stephen King paperbacks. It could be epic.

The rain has subsided for the most part, although a chill wind reminds us that it once was here. The sky grows ever brighter as sun rise approaches. People remain in good spirits.

a truckload of game pants!  I got 2 pair and wearing one right now!  Love em!  They are from the UTL game because they have the old school adidas logo on the hip.  I did'nt see your post til now or I would've got some extras!

Doing pretty well. I am inside about to watch the Brazil/Mexico Gold medal game. I went last year to the garage sale and got a game used football, some warm ups, and one of Zoltan's old jerseys.

I just had to have a damn surgery yesterday. Wish I was there so badly. I want a practice jersey and pants so bad.

Next year you better hide yo jerseys, hide yo pants and hide yo helmets because I'm be buying everything up in there.

Got there right around 9, the line was stretching almost to Yost, but it moved pretty quickly and I probably waited 15-20 minutes.  Just missed out on some nice wood bats ($10 new!) and almost all the baseball jerseys but I got:

-Used composite fungo bat ($25)

-Size 50 gray baseball jersey ($20)

-Catcher's chest protector and shin guards ($10 each)

-John Engels (RHP) autographed baseball that I found lying around somewhere ($5)

-Five different short-sleeved t-shirts ($5 total)

The line to pay was a little crazy, but much worse after I got in line, at which point it stretched all the way around.  Just one line this year, not separate ones for credit and cash.  It moved pretty reasonably, though.

The funniest sight for me was guys carrying racks worth of football jerseys.  Not that I blame them--they're cool--but it's just funny seeing people trying to carry that many jerseys around.  I definitely had a good time at my second garage sale, and I'll try to make it out earlier next year for some of the better stuff.

Not to mention that they grab as many as they can carry, go sit on the floor and sort through them, as has been mentioned in this thread.  I always go to these looking for fun stuff for myself and my friends, but with an event like this I guess you're always gonna get the profit-seeking asshat-type.
