New Michigan Hype Video

Submitted by mocomber on

Since I wanted to get familiar with my movie tools because of the new company I'm working with, I put together my first video - a Michigan hype video with scenes from last year and a small Alabama spot. It's no "Sometimes When You're On" I got all of the videos on YouTube from parkinggod and WH, who are.... just great. The song is Cage by Dead Letter Circus. Enjoy.

Never seen the actual interview before, I think my favorite part (even more than the actual part) is the look on RVB's face combined with the "WHAT?!" of (I'm assuming) Denard.  Re-watched that part a few times and it makes me laugh every time.

If you're going to reference the "Sometimes When You're On" video, it should probably be the 2009 original MGoBlog production by Tim Sullivan.

Sorry, this is my Section 1/Freep vendetta.  I think the MGoBlog official hype video of '09 is the best, still, I've ever seen and I think the 2010 ripoff gets undue credit (though it's not bad, just totally unoriginal).

I had never seen the 2009 version for whatever reason, so I just clicked back and saw it.

Some thoughts:

1. 2010 is no doubt derivative (music, Wizard of Oz color transitioning, &c.)

2. 2010, probably because it has more footage to work with, has events better keyed to the song.

3. 2009 has crisper editing and video quality. I also like the 'pace' of sped-up footage. It seems better synced to the music's cadence.

2010, overall, is just a bit better than 2009--with less technical quality but better footage. What I want to know, however, is if 2010 referenced 2009? I think this is a key determination for whether it is an homage--or a ripoff.

Thank you for putting this together--solid action. If there's something I'd point out, it's that maybe because there is so much action in the footage, some of the jump cuts make what's going on very difficult to follow. Also, some of the sped-up footage doesn't quite match with the music.

especially the 2000 Orange Bowl flashback.

However don't forget Brown to Kolesar for the win at the '88 HOF Bowl (plus Jamie Morris, 200+ yds and 3 TD, including a 77 yarder
