Small Derrick Green Updates (Good)

Submitted by go16blue on

Mods feel free to delete if you feel this is redundant, but there have been quite a few updates since the last thread, and it got so big that I doubt people were still checking it. So here's a quick rundown of the tweets from various sources:

Samm Webb: "@SamWebb77: Positive vibes from visitors in Ann Arbor today. Reason enough for a commit watch. No gut feelings, but commitment is a real possibility now"

Sarah Hughes: "@SarahMHughes87: Got a couple texts from recruits on campus right now saying good shot Green commits this weekend. Also, 2014 WR Artavis Scott mentioned."

Tremendous: "@TremendousUM: I wouldn't have called me back either @BrOoKyLn_boii27: Wit mi big bro Denard robinson #MICHIGAN"

A Green tweet from much earlier in the day: 'juz finished having a #GREAT talk with coach hooke #michigan'

And finally, a great picture from Green's twitter of his visit. Looks like the coaches are putting on the full court press.

More, thanks to jbr12: Per Mike Farrell at Rivals, Derrick Green has always texted back "no" when asked if he was going to commit on any visit he's been on. Tonight? "idk". The anticipation builds for tomorrow

Green/Smith/Rawls at HB, Shallman at FB, the ridiculous OL we're bringing in, AJ at TE.  I'd like to see anybody try to stop us in short yardage!  Also can't forget Khalid at TE/H-Back.

That is a big RB.

PS: It is refreshing that Michigan's "full court press" contains a weak powerpoint shown on a school projector system... lol... refreshing because it apparently works and is so low keyed it is beautiful.

A big RB (6", 215 now with some growing left to do, I imagine) with reported 4.3 speed like Green would definitely be a great addition. Looking at the photo, I would say that short yardage plays would not be a problem certainly.

In case anyone is interested, because I am working on this diary and have the data anyway, even if Green joins the class, the average RB in the 2013 class is 6'1", 220 lbs, an increase of about 3 inches and 20 pounds over the  incoming freshmen.

twitter drama right now between green and some osu fan/blog

anyone else get the feeling that green is mad at OSU and is considering michigan more than before to get back at them and/or commit and stomp them in the future?

blockonation said: Good to know  is filling your pockets w/ $$$ during your recruiting trip RT  Pocket full of dead presidents ✳

blockonation then said:  I NEVER wanted him....Has nothing to do w/ him going elsewhere....

then derrick green starts responding to him.. if you go to both pages you can see it all

And then he complains that his comments have been blown out of proportion, mostly by Michigan fans, but *gasp* even some Ohio fans! If your own side is telling you that you've crossed a line, you've probably crossed a line.

I'm sorry but is that someone affiliated with Ohio State calling Michigan "Ann Arbor Community College"? Plus the added irony of someone from Ohio making jokes about other players possibly getting impermissible benefits

Don't want to jinx it and put the cart before the horse....but might as well throw it out there.

As noted, Green looks physically ready to play college football right away (actually looks NFL ready).  Roster management is hardly my specialty, so out of curiousity what are the chances he would not redshirt, but instead be on the field as a freshman?  Obviously lots of other things go into this like learning the offense, depth chart, etc, but if Smith and Green are similar backs, at least in terms of style if not ability, is the staff better off only redshirting one of them to put that year between them?

Assuming both Fitz and Rawls are back in 2013, which I have no reason to doubt, it would be a waste to play him has a freshman. Michigan does need a Vincent Smith type (good at blitz pickups and short yardage receptions), but Green is unlikely to be it.

My god, OSU fans should be embarrassed by Urban's childish ploy this week. Green is scheduled to visited Michigan, then Columbus this weekend. But two days beforehand, after full-court pressing Green since day one, Urban suddenly leaks that the Buckeyes "are going in a different direction." Is his head so far up his ass that he thinks the world won't put two and two together? Obviously he was just worried about losing another head-to-head recruiting battle with Michigan. What a pathetic coward.
