Desmond Kevin Howard. The fourth player in the history of football to win both the Heisman and Super Bowl MVP trophies. Some of you also may recall that Howard was signed after a stellar high school career at tailback... where he lasted only three days before Bo moved him to the outside. It's also worth mentioning that when Desmond won the Heisman, he secured a then-unprecedented 85% of all first place votes. There was no controversy here.
I think this shirt pretty much speaks for itself... Certainly it's more of a general Michigan tee than an MGoBlog insider shirt, but I just felt it was about as classic as it can get. I personally, would wear this shirt until it's as grungy as my legendary 1997 Nike UM team tee.
So, time to vote! What do you guys think?

As far as yesterday, I think we've learned that when it's finally time for Brian to reveal his plot to diplomatically conquer the world, I am clearly NOT the best choice for ambassador to Spain, Mexico, or large chunks of western Maryland. I think it's fairly clear that "Tacopants for Heisman" was the preferred choice over "No quiero," and I guess the question is whether or not the general public wants to see that as an actual voting choice-- yes or no? I still have yet to reveal my own BTN-practice-inspired-Tacopants design, and there's quite a few more to drop as well. See you tomorrow for another round of-- MGoShirt Alert!

That is a pretty awesome shirt
August 18th, 2009 at 1:14 PM ^
Can't be used. Nothing with anyone's likeness.
August 18th, 2009 at 11:08 AM ^
Yes, Yes and more Yes! It hits it all. Specific to Michigan football and tradition yet accessible to any fan, from rabid to merely fashion conscious.

Maybe I'm just too set on stuff on the back, but i like the effect.
5 stars, best one yet, edging out slot ninja

Two versions of this one? make a maize one with blue player and put 'hello heisman' on that one?
August 18th, 2009 at 11:31 AM ^
"Hello Heisman" is a GREAT idea!!!!
August 18th, 2009 at 11:45 AM ^
plus one on the "hello heisman" idea.
August 18th, 2009 at 12:11 PM ^
and "Strike a pose" on the back. I like the double sided t-shirts. Just a thought.

For future six zero shirt contests, I'd love to see a head to head "playoff" system. I think yesterday's spanish mess vs. Tacopants for Heisman proved people are better able to give meaningful criticism when comparing two options.
This bowl system just doesn't give us any sort of sense of who is the best. We're comparing apples to oranges, Big Ten to SEC, with no consideration as to difficulty of schedule (i.e. maybe today's shirt is such a hit because yesterday's was such a cluster).
Anyhow, as others have mentioned, I'd like to see a font change on this one, but it is a strong shirt. Really enjoying the contest so far, six - thanks for the effort.

I think that the plan is to take all of the top rated shirts and then put them into a tournament (or at least a ranking system). So, I think we'll eventually get something like this.
August 18th, 2009 at 11:22 AM ^
My one tweak would be to put a little spacing to show that the left leg is in the pose. Right now, it looks like one jumbled lower body, even though we know what it is. I think w/ some space between the legs, the furthers the pose. Just my 2 cents. I'd still buy it as is.
August 18th, 2009 at 11:31 AM ^
I didn't even notice that, now that you point it out it looks like he only has one leg. Although, think how awesome someone would have to be to win the Heisman with only one leg.
August 18th, 2009 at 11:46 AM ^
If this is taken from a photo of the pose, then I'd rather not see tweaks like that.
August 18th, 2009 at 6:29 PM ^
co-signed.

This is by far the best of the bunch. Love the idea. If anything, I might change the font; it makes me think of the "Vote for Pedro"shirts, which probably isn't what you're going for here. But otherwise...great shirt.
August 18th, 2009 at 11:33 AM ^
Agreed.
Change the font to a Collegiate or a Franklin Gothic, and this shirt is a 5star. So, I'll vote it a five star, with hope that the font would be changed.

I also know that you can't use Heisman without getting into a trademark/copyright kerfuffle, so I think this is the right choice. Can I also state that I appreciate the touch of having Desmond's taped towel in there. It's the small things.
August 18th, 2009 at 12:13 PM ^
that's wrong. no one would really believe the downtown athletic club or whoever owns the trademark is really endorsing anyone for the heisman, no less "tacopants." "tacopants for heisman" is completely fine. also, the suggestion that someone should win the trophy is essentially an opinion and as such constitues a form of protected political speech.

Clever reference to a former M student...very hipster, 5*
August 18th, 2009 at 12:05 PM ^
This is the first one I have given a five to. Great work!
August 18th, 2009 at 12:10 PM ^
best shirt yet! i'd buy it as is, but would prefer a different font.
August 18th, 2009 at 1:02 PM ^
so, what exactly was wrong with the evolution of man idea?
August 18th, 2009 at 1:07 PM ^
Ask anyone in the south.
August 18th, 2009 at 1:47 PM ^
Cooper Black??
C'mon, Six Zero.
August 18th, 2009 at 3:16 PM ^
I was going for that whole A&F/Old Navy/American Eagle cheesy tee look... you know, those "Virginia is For Lovers" shirts and the like. When all else fails, use Cooper for that funny t-shirt style, kids!
Personally, I'm more of an Impact, Chinese Rocks, and Agency kinda guy... and I never doubt the cultural prominence of Helvetica.
August 18th, 2009 at 6:21 PM ^
I understand your reasoning, but I don't see this shirt as "funny"; I see it as "awesome." What font goes on awesome t-shirts?
August 18th, 2009 at 6:43 PM ^
Feast of Flesh
August 18th, 2009 at 8:06 PM ^
Ah, I'm a fan of Helvetica, along with Univers, Trade Gothic, and Didot. And you can't go wrong with House Industry's script typefaces.
August 18th, 2009 at 3:09 PM ^
First shirt that I really like. Second (fifteenth?) the suggestions to fix the font, and I do like adding "Hello Heisman!"
August 18th, 2009 at 7:38 PM ^
Like this one. PRETTY GOODT.
August 18th, 2009 at 8:07 PM ^
...Mark May should get WAAAY! less than two stars! I'd like to assign him negative eleventy-billion stars.
Oh, btw, I like the shirt.
August 19th, 2009 at 1:07 AM ^
This is definitely the best one so far.
August 19th, 2009 at 8:15 AM ^
Who are the 24 people (so far) that gave this a 1 on the voting? There's no way in hell a UM fan could give this the worst vote. You don't have to jack off over it but a 1? Really? How 'bout at least a 2?
August 19th, 2009 at 10:20 AM ^
I think simply "Hello..." would allow for reference to the Keith Jackson call without running into any copyright issues with the word Heisman.
August 19th, 2009 at 10:23 AM ^
strike a pose there's nothing to it...vogue
August 23rd, 2009 at 10:44 PM ^
I would buy this shirt IMMEDIATELY. Like right away.
And I would wear that shit ALL. THE. TIME.
August 25th, 2009 at 10:53 AM ^
much better then the woodson shirt
