Season 5 of AMC's Breaking Bad premiere tonight at 10pm Eastern.  This will be the final season, although it will be split into two sets of 8 episodes with the final 8 airing not until summer of 2013.

*Warning of obvious spoilers in this thread for those not yet caught up.

EDIT: I  just found a really cool video that attempts a recap of the first 4 seasons in a 9 minute video:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evCS62BFnEE&feature=youtu.be

I'm excited to see where they go with the final season.  I have a feeling that Walter is going to meet an interesting demise by the end of the series, but how he gets to that point and who else doesn't make it is anyone's guess.

Wife and I are pumped for this! Best show on TV right now. For those interested in getting into another well-written show, check out HBO's 'The Newsroom'. They're only 3 episodes into the series (4th one airs tonight) but we've been very impressed!

The pilot was good.  Each episode is worst than the one before.  I havem't seen the 4th one yet, maybe it picks up again.

I sometimes get annoyed of the Sorkin style dialogue and the show gets really really preachy.    If we were to discuss that it would go into things that we aren't allowed to talk about on the board.

are that this season will be dark and disturbing, and that Walt will break really bad. I hope I don't go to bed feeling as guilty as I do after Mad Men. Perhaps I identify too readily with tv characters.

There are two potential story arcs -- redemption or final fall.

My guess is the writers will go the latter.  Walter White has tasted the nectar of evil and I don't think he simply walks back from that and quietly tends to his car wash.  Let's not forget that Mike (chief bad guy for Gus) is recovering somewhere in Mexico ... he's not dead and my guess is there'll be (attempted) hell to pay.

Buckle up.

(By the way ... watch how the director uses light and shadow to enhance drama ... it's unbelievably effective.)

Vince Gulligan has hinted since the beginning of the series that it won't end pretty for Walt.  Some are predicting it will have something to do with his cancer coming back, but who knows.  Others say it will come down to a showdown with brother-in-law Hank.  All I know is how "dark and ugly" this season will get according to Vince. Until then, "All Hail the King!" is the season 5 logo that they are promoting it with.

I'd imagine that just dying from the cancer or otherwise wouldn't be such a bad ending for Walt.  He already expected to die which is why he took up cooking meth in the first place.  My guess is if it does end badly for Walt, then he will be left destitute and alone.  Might be he ends up in prison with all his money taken away, or his family dies, but just him dying wouldn't really be a bad ending for him.

I predict that Walt kills Hank when Hank starts getting too close. That would be the ultimate act to complete Walt's transformation from a mild-mannered stiff into a cold-blooded criminal mastermind. I think Walt's downfall (i.e., death) will come about some other way, like during a war with the cartel or at the hands of Jesse when Jesse finally discovers the truth about Walt's role in Jane's death and Brock's poisoning.

I, like many of you probably, have been seeing Bryan Cranston on the talk show circuit, and he is strongly hinting that things will not end well for Walt. I don't think this is much of a spoiler, but he does have lung cancer, after all. At least, that's what he's been hinting.

Last season, Walt almost broke down a couple of times...and he "played" the victim very well.  Turns out, he pretty much was acting...the last attempts to play "Mr. White" in order to get what Heisnberg wants.

It appears that this final season, Mr. White will be full-on Heisenberg and that will be fun to watch.

Im also wondering how the German conglomerate  Madrigal Electromotive Gmbh will play in to this... should be fun.

I am interested in learning more about Gus' background in Chile. There must be a reason (beyond poor record keeping) why Hank couldn't find any record of him prior to 1986.

I think this show is good but fairly overrated. The vast majority of each episode is boring and uneventful, with an intense burst and major cliffhanger at the end.

May be because I've watched the series so much that I don't really care for Walt anymore. I know the emotional toll he has put on his family, on Jesse, and everyone else. He's such a manipulatiive person and for him to sort of act comforting then to say that, it was very befitting of him, but also just out of place under normal circumstances. It seemed like the situation where you'd be like "hey, everything will be okay." You know, that type of scene. Instead, we have Walt continuing to be an asshole, using this opportunity to stick it to Skyler. May be it was a result of getting needled by Mike, by Walter Jr., by Goodman, but it was just funny to hear that from him.

That was a great episode and season opener!  Loved seeing Walt and Jesse working together on another caper...they are getting better at this.  Bringing back the junkyard man was a great touch.  It was sad to see Ted disabled...Mike falling in line appears to make an interesting trio going forward.  The early scenes forecasting Walt in a diner is classic BB giving you a glimpse of what is coming.  Id give that epi a 9.5 out of 10.

PS looks like Hank has some suspicions about Walt...(no likey spoilers dont watch the clip then)
