Submitted by RakeFight on

The 2012 watchlists for the Maxwell (best football player) and Bednarik (best defensive player) have been released.  D. Robinson and Toussaint are on the Maxwell list.  No Wolverines are on the Bednarik list.

The only thing I can really say is these preseason award lists are mostly useless. They are just like preseason polls, based on hype and expectation and not much else. They are generally so inclusive that someone will often emerge from the list, but that still doesn't mean much. It'd be interesting to go back and see how many winners are actually on the preseason list.

As much as I would love to see Denard or Fitz win the Maxwell, I have a feeling that we will get almost equal production from both candidates, therefore mostly eliminating their chances due to split votes. It seems as if players that are the entire offense are more apt to win the award (Luck, Newton, Quinn, Larry Johnson, Drew Brees, Ron Dayne, etc.)

Yeah, that's a good deal of yards, but pales in comparison to 2854 yds 30 tds passing and 1473 yds 20 tds rushing (plus one td reception). I still call that dominating the teams statistics, especially in the touchdown category.
